Another problem Disney has with Star Wars products is that outside of the toy aisle, LITERALLY everything Star Wars is Baby Yoda. At Target we have a BY Chia pet. All T-shirts, both children and adults, are about BY. In party supplies, the plates, napkins, wrapping paper, stickers, and tablecloths are all about BY. There is a BY toothbrush and toothpaste. The bedsheets all feature BY, along with BY cuddle pillows. There are no other characters to be found, although we may get a Mandalorian helmet here and there. It is borderline ridiculous. Where are the Luke, Leia, and Vader themed products? Disney spent 4 billion dollars to turn Star Wars into a baby franchise.

You know, I have watched several of these videos and I noticed that TMNT toys are almost never shown and when they are, people seem to be buying them. The reason why I bring this up is because TMNT like Marvel and Star Wars was gobbled up by a huge multimedia conglomerate which is Viacom in this case. While they have made some missteps with the TMNT franchise(if you wanna call the 2014 and 2016 film missteps), Viacom seems to have gotten good returns on the franchise. For example, many recent Marvel games over the past few years have been huge flops while Shredder's Revenge sold a million copies in a week. My point to all this is how TMNT and Disney's franchises have been treated in recent years. The Turtles aren't being gender swapped, popular legacy characters aren't getting pushed to the side in favor of less popular newcomers, political ideology is not being shoved down our throats. While with Disney the polar opposite is happening and it's turning off their fans who aren't buying merchandise based on IPs that are going out of their way to turn off the fan base. Disney bought some of the most popular franchises on Earth and due to a combination of bad decisions have somehow turned franchises that print money into stuff that people don't want if it's free. Maybe this is a lesson to be learned.

Shit I still see crap from the Force Awakens rotting in some stores. There's a reason why toy companies barley release new merch based off the Sequels anymore. Hell making toys out of stuff from the old discontinued Expanded Universe sells better then anything from the ''offical'' canon.

Just like movies aren't supposed to be fun anymore and, instead, carry a message of diversity and inclusion, so goes it with the toy industry. Gotta be politically correct, have more diverse representation and ensure that the line appeals just as much to little girls as it does to little boys. And this amazing strategy gives us toys no one wants and a toy industry on the verge of collapse. Well done.
@Veylon
@Veylon Год назад
If they actually had that message, it'd be fine. Star Wars had that message from the beginning. The Empire is all about conformity and obedience, after all. The new movies abandoned that message. They aren't genuinely diverse.

I have to wonder how much of this is due to brand damage to Star Wars due to TLJ and onward, and how much of it is due to the action figure market overall shrinking. I get the impression (though haven't researched) that the collector market is not growing.

I remember when. I was 16 at a comic book convention many many moons ago. I noticed one stand had stacks of toys and memorabilia through the years. Millennium Falcon and many other rare toys. One that caught my eye was this Robin Hood playset. When I asked why that was there he revealed a nice bit of info. The Robin Hood movie used the ewok playsey mold and accessories. It's a way toy companies would save money if something was similar. So the same ewok forest set mold was still being used at how popular the original star wars toys were. Since they used it previously to continuously print star wars toys. Was being repurchased after its run to a new playset.

Said it before, you tell how successful a franchise is by the merchandise they sell, toys, action figures, t-shirts, hats, bed sheets, current franchises sell little cause people don't buy stuff from IPs they don't like. Even the OG Star Wars made billions more off merchandise than all gross ticket sales from all 3 movies combined.

One thing I miss the most is the Micromachine Star Wars ships. They brought them back for The Force Awakens, then never again. As lazy as most of the ship designs were in the sequel trilogy, it still would've been cool to have little Micromachine toys of them. Only recently have I noticed they've brought back the larger Micromachine ships and vehicles with the little micro-guy that fits in the cockpit, but that's all I've seen.

Here in Virginia at Ollie’s it’s the same, packed out with Rey. Also at Target and Walmart after Christmas they are packed out with Buzz Lightyear figures. I think that’s the reason why Marvel Legends figures went up in cost, to make up for these failed IPs.
@dunsparcetv9036
@dunsparcetv9036 Год назад
I recently checked Lego sets for the sequel movies and they aren’t sold out and they only cost a bit more than the original price while sets of clone wars and the original trilogy sell mostly really well. Sets with clones sell out fast like the 501st Battlepack more than I ever have seen. I didn’t have any issues with supply, but directly after I bought mine it was sold out and that doesn’t happen often with new sets for my Amazon. Disney should just produce more of the characters the fans will love and produce a few of the side characters just in case the characters gets popular and then produce more of the character if the figures sell well. If they produce less then they will not lose that much money.
