If the gender swaps and diverse identities were less focused on I would not care, but the worst part about Harley Quinn is that they expose her as a villain in the same episode where she enters a relationship with Renee. I was staring at the scenes between them confused because on one hand, the show clearly treats the relationship as something to root for. But then the show turns around and shows Quinn relentlessly torturing people.
So I did watch the series and I thought it was good. I especially liked that it felt small. Batman wasn't fighting essentially super powered enemies who could destroy the entire city or world. He was dealing with criminals, a notch above low level ones but not the overpowered ones we often see. I think maybe you should consider that what you are seeing is a new trope. I'll call it the Bridgerton Trope: Bridgerton Trope: A historical piece that assumes the Civil Rights movements either happened far earlier than they actually did or were never needed. Pros - You don't need to make an all white cast or assign every non-white actor a role of 'minority person held down'. - You don't need to focus on civil rights if you do have a multi-racial cast. Gordon doesn't have to have a fight to not just to fight corruption as police commissioner but also a civil rights battle that would have erupted if there was a city in the 30's or 40's that even flirted with the idea of a Black commissioner. - If done well, it can be a nice glimpse of the world that maybe should have been Con - It does remove you a bit from the historical accuracy. - There is a valid question of when it becomes offensive. Imagine a Civil War drama trying to play by these rules and you can probably see what I mean. Overall I liked it and for 10 brief episodes I wasn't as invested in terms of fitting it into larger Batman lore. It did not redo the origin story of Batman (though it did hint at it). I didn't take it to be so early in Batman's career as you did but I liked how it mapped out some iconic characters without going overboard on them I agree, Batman stories do tend to fall into a rut. You have his origin, his putting together the whole setup of Batman, and then it is episodic adventures unless you do a huge 'boss fight' that may bring an end to his story (Dark Knight Rises and all). Maybe someone could tell some big 'end career'' Batman arcs that explore the border between Batman starting to get too old to be Batman and what comes next.
I like it but didn't love it, I thought it was decent. I couldn't agree more, and that was my biggest criticism of the show, I thought they made some questionable changes with some gender and race swapping made for certain characters, while I appreciate what they were going for, but some of it didn't for me. The way they introduced and represented the characters in the show felt very jarring, confusing and off at times. Barbara Gordon is a good example, in the first episode and the way it shows her in the court room and in which I also have the same reaction like who the heck is this and then after the trail ends and the way they reveal that was Barbara Gordon and I'm like wait what, that was Barbara?! I didn't even recognize that it was her, which I agree that was not a good way to introduce her and it also felt out of place. I also didn't recognize the other characters except for Bruce Wayne and Batman, and that was another thing I noticed while I agree Batman was hardly in some of the episodes
Why not just do a tour video and judge by how many views it gets? By asking if we want to see one beforehand is the equivalent of a haslab. Just do it.
I watched it . I liked it 7/10 . I feel that the villains were undercooked except Harley Quinn and two face . I feel the fumbled the bag with Harvey dent . I would have had him win the election and start a war with Rupert from the office of the mayor .
I liked Bruce Wayne/Batman, and that was about it. It doesn't accurately represent the 40s in any way. They changed way too much. This series could've been great. I was ok with it just being bizzaro World Batman until I realized it was set in the 40s. It makes no sense.
Its so different that i see it as its own thing like the batman. It'll get 2 more seasons and be done. It's its own sub universe. So i don't care about changes anymore. Just enjoy the ride at this point. Villains are dying. This is very different.
I like this review. Takes not of the good points but does wash over the nonsensical points. For example the partnership between Gordon and BatMan is non existent. That was a key relationship that made some plots possible.
I stopped watching it when it became apparent that "Oswalda" is Penguin. I said "nope! I'm done!" and gave it a thumbs down. "not for me". Why do they have to contaminate EVERYTHING they get their hands on? All it does is alienate the lifelong fans, and I'm going on 50 years!
Storytelling is a developed "skill set" you have to actually work on to improve - just like any other activity. Dude should of worked on his QB skill set.... Great video!!
I agree with the notion of the constant retelling of the early days throughout the Batman canon. Some of the changes I liked. But I think the true tragedy is the continued focus on the rise of Batman. This will not come close to Phantasm or BTAS (because these were just legendary), but it is a decent watch. I do think S2 will be better. I actually found the flipped Penguin fun and ruthless and it fits. You also talk about the problem with the isms, when BTAS tackled social concerns (environmentalism and capitalism). The billionaires did not get a great depiction back then.
Well I like that the show has Batman having trauma, and insecurities. Makes him feel human, as opposed to being a stoic joke. Also, the scene where he shoots a gun at the person who shot Harcey, and then growls throwing it away. Peak Batman! Also, when he helps the girl. Its nice to see him be compassionate. Because that's what Batman is supposed to be. Empathetic, still. If I had to xomplai . Yeah, race swapping and gender swapping for no real reason is stupid. Granted, they made Penguin a bad shitty mom. But otherwise. All they did was race swap, and gender swap. If they really wanted to do that. They could talk about how normal it was to hear negro back then. I don't like using that word. But its true, also showing gay characters is.....ESG stuff. But still, they could show homphobia in the 40s. Since they have the asthetic, at least have the time frame! Though Harely's design is a bit.....Reversed. Good to see no Joker so far. He's used way too much. Wonder what they will do with Robin, or Redhood even!
Star Wars figures are basically only for collectors now. Even then, they make poor choices in what they make. Only completists purchase the bad figures, leaving the majority of the stock unsold.
