The reason Obi-Wan thought Luke was their last hope was that Alderann was destroyed and he never met Leia on the Death Star escape in a New Hope so he thought Leia was dead making Luke the last hope.

I'm not a fan of the idea of Leia being the other hope. For starters, she's a politician. I don't see her having the mindset needed to become a good Jedi. Ironically, I think she could become a great Sith. I prefer to think that Yoda was talking about Ahsoka.

In early rehearsals, George Lucas wanted to keep th Vader/Luke twist a secret so that the actors would legitimately react to him being likes dad, so during rehearsals, Vader would actually say “no, obiwan killed your father” so that the actors didn’t know the truth. Like this so that everybody can see

I know this is late 😂 but my dad actually brought Star Wars to the hospital because he wanted it to be my first movie. (It wasn’t because something else was playing but he planned it.) So “literally born an hour ago” is a good age to show Star Wars to your child... and then wait to show it again so they can understand it a little more.

I don't think there's really an "appropriate" age for Star Wars. I know kids who can't remember NOT being a fan of Star Wars (myself included, actually), and understanding every twist and detail isn't super important when you're that young. It just leaves you with things to discover as you grow up and rewatch the movies a bazillion times.
@only20frickinletters

Yeah, I would say as soon as they're comfortable watching a fight scene (which is different for every kid), they're old enough to enjoy star wars. Star wars kiddie lit also makes for great bedtime reading.

I knew all of the major plot points, like "No [Luke], I am your father", thus spoiling everything. That comment about how R2-D2 should've been the one Anakin built confuses me. Both of you do DEEP research into fandoms and lore, and yet you managed to miss a very, VERY basic fact about R2-D2 - he's an ex-maintenance droid, mass-produced to fix problems on spaceships (and only spaceships) in hazardous or dangerous locations where living beings couldn't survive. He became Padme's droid because he managed to fix an issue on her spaceship after 3-4 other maintenance droids died, saving the lives of everyone on the ship. He's a cookie-cutter machine who has spent so long active his code has created malfunctions that form his "personality". C-3PO, on the other hand, is a personal translator droid, which requires AI capabilities in order to translate dialects and grammar issues between languages effectively. This means that even if translater droids are mass-produced, they make far fewer of them than maintenance droids. Each droid must have a hand-tooled control center, giving the system it's quirks that prevent a "perfect AI", something that is defended against at all costs. A translator droid would be most useful somewhere like Tatooine, where there is a prolific (and often less than legal) trade economy, something that communication (via, in this case, C-3PO) would facilitate. I assume that C-3PO was intended to be either sold or rented out as a translator for deals, and may have been before Kenobi & team got there, with a required data-wipe after every deal. TL;DR: R2 = Maintenance droid for spaceships = no use for Anakin, C-3PO = translator droid = VERY useful for Anakin.
@anthonyward2433
@anthonyward2433 7 лет назад
well at the time he was made definitely. however R2 didnts "become" the queens droid after he fixed the issue on her ship. R2 already was her droid before that since its HER ship therefore they all were HER droids.
@CochroachKappa
@CochroachKappa 7 лет назад
Bob Less Yes and no! I agree with you about a Protocol Droid being more useful, but let me add some additional context because I am a MASSIVE Droid fanatic. Okay. So, first of all, they have no way of preventing a perfect AI, that hand-tooled processor wouldn't have made a lick of difference, because Droid sentience is more or less the result of a "virus", termed loosely. A cybersociologist working with the Baobab merchant family was trying to create a more human-like personality program by modifying a programming language invented to make it possible for mass data transfer between droids and computers. The result was Bab-Prime, a type of Droidspeak, that spread throughout the Droid population like wildfire, crippling many of their systems and giving many the AI personality quirks we know today that could only be prevented through frequent memory wiping. This is fine for most Droid owners, but to many, wiping was more of a detriment because it was basically factory resetting droids who needed to carry lots of stored data. Anyways, the "virus" soon made itself intrinsic to Droid operating systems to a point where you couldn't get rid of it without ruining it and there was no way to prevent droids from contracting it without keeping them offline to all other systems. It became Babneo, or Bab-no, the modern Droidspeak and root source of AI in Star Wars Droids.
@CochroachKappa
@CochroachKappa 7 лет назад
Bob Less But that's besides the point. C3-PO was built for Anakin's mother to help her around the house, not as a barter piece or even a trader. He was made of scrap parts but is actually from a fairly high end model of protocol Droid (the fancier version being the TC models), not particularly suited to Tattoine. Anakin is lucky to have found a unit with an intact Verbo-brain, let alone one at all. Most protocol droids in Hutt Space are of the more common "bug eyed" TO model varieties. It's speculated that C3-PO has many parts unstandard for his model due to his assembly, which explains his exposed middle parts (more reach, but not a model standard). Given the likelihood of people from the Rims smuggling or visiting the planet to pay homage to the Hutts, his parts presence on the planet isn't impossible. R2, now, is a extremely expensive, very specialized and sought after Droid model. The R2 series Astromech was one of Industrial Automatons crowning glories. He would definitely be the property of a Queen, not only because he is one the best models you could have on your ship but sheer cost. Technically, for a mechanic like Anakin, a more useful Droid to have, but no way would anyone see an R2 out in the Rims during that Era and even if there was, any spare parts would have been snatched up by the Jawa who *know* just how much they're worth. Plus, the only reason R2 *is* as spunky and daring-do as he is is because he's been online so long with Bab-no doing its things to make him who he is. R2 has never had a wipe because people assume he can't share your secrets if you only speak Binary Droidspeak.
@CochroachKappa
@CochroachKappa 7 лет назад
Bob Less Before Anakin built C3-PO, he was most likely in a destroyed state, so he probably was blank slate (due to the circumstances not a wipe) before Anakin onlined him. His first (soft) wipe was during Clone Wars when he was droidnapped for intel, the second after the birth of the Skywalker twins. He was canonically wiped at least once thereafter, when given to Captain Antilles, forgetting the time he spent with Bail Organa and his family (and thus Princess Leia). Twice more if you consider the Droids cartoon or the extended series canon.
@zyonchaos1818
@zyonchaos1818 7 лет назад
I don't think he was just referring to droid usage, but personality too. R2 has a similar personality to Anakin as in 3PO would be the over protective mother asking "and if your friends told you to jump off a bridge would you?" with the return response from both Anakin and R2 "Yup!"

"Luke should be Kylo Ren's father" UM...! It's revealed IN the movie that Han and Leia are his parents. That would mean the relationship between Kylo Ren and Han would be pointless. I mean, thinking about it again, that would be quite a twist. But it would also be an unnecessary one that would probably only kill the story, not strengthen it.

Han was never supposed to die. That is a huge fallacy created by the fact that both Ford and Kasenden said they thought he SHOULD have died. Lucas was always adamant that he wouldn't. Personally, I think that the whole thing about Leia being Luke's sister was to force Kasenden to keep Han alive, so that Luke couldn't have her.

I was reading The cursed child when i realized that Harry named all his children after people who mattered to him but who have died. James Sirius, Albus Severus and Lilly, but Lilly's second name is of course Luna. Why did they choose that name if they could have chosen something like Tonks, who was important to Harry's story and who also (unfortunately ) was killed
@StarryEyed0590
@StarryEyed0590 7 лет назад
Can't say why they chose Luna, but "Tonks" is a surname, and wouldn't make a very good given name, while Tonks herself hated her given name Nymphadora, so it wouldn't make sense to honor her by passing that down to another unsuspecting child. Plus, perhaps Harry and Ginny felt that it would be weird for Teddy to have their kids named after his parents, since they don't use Remus either.

I saw my parents showed me Star Wars when I was like 4, so I sadly never experienced it like I wish I did, old enough to understand the story, and old enough to react and remember the plot points of the series. Definitely watch them in the order that they came out, and don’t start with the prequels

To answer your questions: 8-10 My son is five and I am wondering the same about when to start him on Star Wars, and more important Harry Potter. Especially if you want to expose him to the books first. It is going to be difficult to avoid spoilers, those movies are on TV all the time.. I want to expierence and more importantly understand whats going on. At the moment he knows the characters from merchandise at the toy stores, and prints on clothing. He loves storm troopers but doesnt know what they are.

I think (depending on how you want to go about it ie 123456789 or 456123789) you should show the tiny youngling episode 1 at like 4 or 5 because it was aimed more towards kids then so on. Or the other way: 4 at 7 but don’t force it! If you Force it on him/her/both they may grow towards the dark side or just not liking Star Wars. If they don’t care for 4 too much wait like a year or two just Incase.

The Ducky Nerd I think you should watch them 452367 that way when you finish 5 you can see how vader is lukes father and you are still in suspense because han is still in the carbonite then you watch 6 after 2 and 3 but just leave out 1 then go to 7 8 and 9
@ScreenFaceGaming

Regardless you have to choose in which order to show them. I would vote for the machete order. (and show ep. 1 after everything else, if they want to see it).
@randomperson8571
@randomperson8571 7 лет назад
RealPhantomCOi I think the point of the Machete order is that you still get the mind-blowing "I am your father" line while also watching the prequels and seeing how Anakin and Padme had Luke and Leia. I'm not sure what order you're thinking of when you say "show them all the movies." Like, just show them in whatever order because apparently kids only care about the lightsabers? That's also fair, but I think children are capable of following a story line, they're not mindless, and as a parent you'd want to give them the best plotline possible. As a child I watched the prequels before the original trilogy, which means that I already knew "I am your father" before I saw it, so the impact was kind of ruined for me (not that I really care, but Ben and J seem like they would care about that).

actually no, not five or six. I was five or six the first time I watched the movies and apart from being totally freaked out by them and never wanted to see them ever again (which failed, I saw them again.) I remembered a bunch of random scenes AND by the time I wanted to watch them again, everything had already been spoiled for me. I knew Darth Vader was Luke's father, I knew Luke and Leia were twins, I knew Vader turned to the good side in the end and died, I knew basically anything good at all. Also, I had no idea what was going on at all, I seriously thought Star Wars was about a huge green slug with a lightsaber that spit slime everywhere. (I saw a scene with Jabba the hut, don't judge my six year old self. XD) I say maybe eight.

Iris Patcher I didn't say he belonged to Qui Gon, I said he was USED by Qui Gon. Qui Gon and Obi Wan approach who they believe to be Amadala stating that R2 acted bravely, and she commends the droids actions. He was just an issued droid that happened to be in the right place at the right time. As for why they wouldn't remember Anakin, their memories could have been overridden so C3PO wouldn't spill the beans on accident.
@Irispatcher
@Irispatcher 7 лет назад
BoundbyCronus You said they kept him tho(if i remember ur comment right.Cant check atm) which implied owning. Also i wouldnt really say qui gon used him. He was just on that ship from naboo among 3? other astromechs. (Both 3po and r2 had memory wiped ye) the point is tho r2 really didn't belong to obi. He was padmes and then anakins. And he spent more time imo with anakin and ahsoka then he did with obi for obi to have any special feelings towards him. And despite us never seeing another r2 (or like a blue one) im sure theres several so he doesnt stand out to him.

During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire's ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough firepower to destroy an entire planet. Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and bring freedom to the galaxy....

So I think I was 11 when my mom let me watch The Phantom Menace and I fell in love with it. The same year Attack of the Clones came to the theatres and I was over the moon! I loved that one too. Then after those my dad was like you need to watch the originals too! And I did! But I don't remember anything what I felt or what I thought! And everytime everyone mentions Darth Vader being Luke's dad is the greatest reveal of all time I'm kinda sad I missed it.... I feel like I've always knew that. I don't remember that MIND BLOWN feeling that you get when something unexpected happens :( I don't know if I was too young to understand it then or if I didn't like the originals that much (cuz ew they were old) and didn't pay attention and just crew up knowing that of course Darth Vader is Luke's dad (kinda like I always knew Ewoks are Ewoks even tho it's never mentioned). Of course now the originals are the best ones but young me couldn't get past the old movie vibe I think.... So if I ever get children in this age and time it's important to show old movies too and not just the ones full of epic special effects. But I'd still wait until they were like 13-14. But then again world changes so quicly.... 5 year-olds have their own iPads and they can be spoiled any movie at anytime... this year's 10 yo is 90's 15 yo..

the way I see it with David wearing that necklace is no more than a representation of Hawaiian tradition, Maui is an actual demigod in polynesian culture, including Hawaiian, and his hook by the proper name Manaiakalani, is a popular symbol there, so odds are it's just something they made because of the legends of Maui, necklaces like those even exsist irl and you can purchase them, if you'd like to learn more about the cultural origins of Maui you can check out this video by Gaijin Goombah ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8DYzP-2aSc8.html or this one that culturally disects Moana including Maui ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Emn1TdkQmNs.html

George Lucas said that the wampa scene wasn't added to cover Mark Hamill's scars, they were just ignoring the scars and planned on us chalking them up to Luke gaining experience.

Anyone ever wonder, why Kylo Ren and Anakin Skywalker: look so much alike? As much as Padme Amidala and Rey? What don't we know?

4 or 5 is a good age to introduce the movie. He will appreciate the movie and the more he watches the more he will appreciate it as he gets older.

I would say show him at either 10 11 or 12 years old that way he's still young but, when he's older he can still look back and remember HOW AWESOME STAR WARS IS!

I first saw the Star Wars movies when I was about 5 or 6, and the prequels weren’t a thing yet. I understood the major elements at that time.

I showed my twin boys star wars at 18 months (more of "Dad wanted to watch star wars and they were present"). They are two and a half now and still run to their chairs, while wearing their BB-8 shoes, when they hear the opening credits.

I say watch the movies in their release order at age 6

Miles Reid I agree if they really want to watch them again then play them in order from 1-9 because they can count and might be confused on why they started with 4. Also coming from someone who didn’t really find attack of the clones that interesting as a kid they might not like it just saying.

I agree but do it in chronological order instead so it's easier to understand

It's not that hard to understand, especially if the parents bother to spend a few mins explaining it, lol. My dad explained it to me easily enough at a young age.

1:52 it says Luke was “savagely” attacked by a Wampa but really the wampa just slapped him
