When Stan Solo is making better Kenner figures than Hasbro's Retro Collection (and he his) you know you've come to the right place. Can't wait to see what he has planned next.
@@jebstuart4004 I've never experienced that problem. He currently has 74 items listed and all the items I've ever looked at and/or purchased have always come back in stock.
@@MarkyD1967 Your bet makes no sense. Why would Chris spend all that money on a sculpt and a steel mold to only produce a short run? All the figures he's producing that sell out come back in stock once he's received a new shipment. Oola sold out and is now back in stock. Multiple figures have sold out and then returned to stock. Making a such a conspiratorial claim without evidence is illogical.
@joshua Kenney Having personally purchased almost every figure he has produced I know for a fact these are not 3D printed. These are injection-molded. Go bark at parked cars and chase conspiracies somewhere else.
Yeah, whomever he uses as sculptors are killing it for him. They are really nailing the attention to detail he's demanding, and SS's design instruction is spot on with Kenner's original style.
I’m just putting this out there. I hope Stan solo reproduces all of the vintage figures. That way all generations can have and enjoy them. Same with the vehicle’s. And I know that’s a lot to ask for. But a man can dream.
Might I throw out another hypothesis as to why this iteration of Leia was avoided at the time? The Buck Rogers Princess Ardala figure in its similar (and I use that term VERY loosely) attire was a peg warmer a few years earlier (and likely still on the pegs when ROTJ came out) so maybe that made Kenner a bit skittish? No idea, but well done, Michael, for the review and well done, Chris, for the figure. Ball slammed into the back of the net by both.
@@projektkobra2247 Thinking on it, the Bespin Leia was still on pegs next to the Ovion and Imperious Ladder figures from BSG at my local Ben Franklin well into the mid-80s, so there's also a logical point here. I hope everyone who wants one gets one as it looks like a fine figure with adherence to the period it might've seen release had things gone differently.
@@projektkobra2247 If demand merits it, I'm sure he'll make a decent fist of the attempt. I've no dog in this race. I just enjoy the happiness he has producing the figures, collectors have purchasing them, and Michael has reviewing them. 😊
@@projektkobra2247 I'm sure a lot of people will be glad to hear it. As a rather tall fellow from the South said, "The fans are doing the best work." Even if that work is for themselves alone (i.e. my General Zod MEGO kitbash).
This Stan Solo deserves the praise. I remember wondering why we never got the Slave Leia figure, thought it might have been down to her lack of sensible dress attire. Brilliantly produced, especially love the hair sculpt. Plus, that is THE Lando we wanted, great colour application.
I love your videos, I may not have grown up in the 70s-80s, but seeing collectors like you makes me happy! I have collections of toys from when I was a kid and so I feel a connection and kinship
It just amazes me how good these figures look in that vintage Kenner style, just how seamlessly they’re able to blend in. Another fantastic job by Stan Solo!
One of the aspects of Retroblasting that I love is the questions it answers about random things I thought were individual to me. Like the black Droid from deathstar, or some other anomaly of toy posterity. The questions I had sans the internet in 87. You answered many of them on your channel.
Fantastic video as usual! I rounded out my collection with Power of the Force figures; Tarkin, Garindan, Porkins, Wedge, Rieekan, Oola, Dr Evizan, Slave Leia, etc...you know, the figures that should have been included. I share your passion. Keep up the good work!
As a 90's kid, when I got in to vintage Kenner SW I told myself I'd just collect the first 12 figures. Then I said only ANH figures. Then I said everything but the last 17. Then I said the whole line plus the Stan Solo last 17. Now I've got Oola, prototype rocket firing Boba Fetts and new variants of classic figures and no room for it all!
@@projektkobra2247 EnigmaticPenguin got into in the 1990s. It was not called Star Wars when he/she/they got into it. I don't give a toss WHAT it was called. What does it matter? Star Wars, Episode IV, A New Hope. Give Disney enough time, it'll be called The Adventures of Farmboy and Stabby McFlashlight. It's ridiculous to fault someone for when they were born and when and/or how they get into a property and to question how authentic their fan credentials are because of it. I'm glad EnigmaticPenguin is into it the same as I'm glad you're into it. Good Evening.
@@projektkobra2247 O-kay. Ease up on the reactionary throttle there. It's. A. Movie. Over the last 45 years, it's been messed with. A lot. Newsflash: So has The Mona Lisa. 1809 cleaning that removed several layers of paint and resulted in its current washed-out look. 1956 acid attack that buggered the lower left part of it. It was vandalized again that same year, as well as in 1974 and 2009. False analogy though it is, to compare Da Vinci's work to Lucas' Joseph Campbell/Akira Kurosawa mash-up. When you guard the tower too zealously, you keep out possible foes and friends alike.
@@projektkobra2247 I don't like the new movies, but that doesn't make their fans not fans of Star Wars. It's not something you can gatekeep. Learn to live with other's appreciation of things you like. Or don't. Whatever.
It's amazing amazing how perfect Stan Solo gets every single figure. It really makes you think how just a single fan-led operation can get it right when billion dollar corporations with huge think tanks don't even come close.
Board room decision-making can be an insane experience to witness. I've done at a very small, private level, and the obvious always seems to find its way out of the room. The fact that Hasbro seems to treat their Retro SW line like some kid they wish they could've aborted is astounding.
It looks great! I'd love more slave Leia figures and statues. Although,it's not "politically correct" these days to feature a women looking all submissive,I've always argued that yes,Leia in her getup looked sexy and the idea of her being Jabba's slave is kinky. However,I find it mostly empowering as well. Leia took the situation and turned into a badass,by not only help Luke and Han,but by killing Jabba himself. But,I guess women these days aren't aloud to look sexy?
Great Video Retro Blasting as always, I got my SS Slave Leia a few weeks back it truly is so well made and brilliant. The rest are on my list for later in the year..
The fans are doing the best work. I wonder whoever sculpted the Jabba set presumed an appropriate Leia would be created for the line and added the chain for that purpose 🤷
Got mine back in February and it was well worth the wait! I'd like to see him do Kenner style Bespin Escape, Ewok Village, and maybe even Yavin Ceremony Leia.
It really shows you how clueless Hasbro is compared to these excellent figures despite the much smaller budget. I guess you could Jabba is having his time of his life.
That is actually cool that they made a slave Leia old school Kenner style. Because the first version of the slave Leia was in 1997 power of the force 2
Another great video!…Speaking of head scratcher with the “Death Star Droid”…Kenner’s labeling of the droid from the Sandcrawer lead the kid me to think that maybe there was a deleted subplot of that droid being an Imperial spy and maybe that’s how the Stormtroopers zeroed in on where the droids were heading. That’s a pretty good idea for a video!
Stan Solo strikes again! These figures have amazing detail and paint apps that make each one vibrant. Also I dig that the rare characters with very little screen time are making made as well.
I always used to use Bespin Leia when playing with the Jabba’s palace throne set. I didn’t even think about the lack of an actual Slayer Leia being missing until reasonably recently. 🤓
I know I’m a broken record when I say Stan Solo’s work is amazing and never fails to impress me, but honestly what else can I say? It be cool if he did these figures in the future; 1. ROTJ Leia (in her Ewok village dress) 2. ROTJ Wequa variant (the one that does the wilham scream while failing into the sarlacc pit) 3. ANH Detention Center Guard (a slight re-sculpt or repaint of Death Squad Commander) 4. ANH or ESB Chewbacca (Chewbacca with re-sculpted hands so he can hold an imperial blaster or imperial rifle) 5. ANH screen accurate Walursman 6. ROTJ Ewok variants (this would be for any Star Wars fans who like army building) 7. ESB pre-carbonite Han Solo 8. ESB Leia (Cloud city escape outfit) 9. ESB dagoba training Luke Skywalker 10. ANH, ESB or ROTJ Wedge
Another awesome video. It is the little details in Michael’s analysis in each of his videos I really enjoy (Han trouser stripe / white painted eyes). Retroblasting Videos are “Stan Solo” quality 👍
YESS YESS YESSS!!! Love it when new retroblasting videos come out!! I usually stop what I'm doing n watch!!!!🤣 specially when it's starwars for SURE!!! just wanna wish u and Melinda a happy life n I hope.u guys are staying safe and healthy!! Aaron swix. #RETROBLASTING#
I've already purchased the Stan Solo Creepio, I mean 000, and the vac-metal material is very well done. Looking forward to "Death Star Droid" made from the same material. Its a cool toy to handle and set up.
These are amazing. Now, if only Stan Solo could make an accurate vintage Kenner-style Throne Room Leia from Star Wars. And to go with it, a General Dodonna and Luke Skywalker in his yellow jacket outfit.
Ordered mine a few months ago, got my dispatch notice the other day been anxiously waiting for it to arrive, then remembered that there isn't a post delivery til about Tuesday here due to Easter - arrggh lol.
Okay let me say this quickly. These figures are spot on perfection! The 3.75" figures were the tops back then. Now the 6" are the go to. Now that articulation and posability is the sh*t. These are perfect if you love the total retro look of the 3.75" lines. Well made and well done!
I don't know how he does it because it's such amazing work, I've seen big companies do much worse with more money behind them. To match a past standard so accurately and seamlessly is tremendous work. O_O I can see why it never happened, the toy landscape wasn't ready for that bitd. We take for granted what we can get now for plastic figures since there was a time Freddy Krueger couldn't be produced. The world of toys is much deeper now in the context of themes unheard of before which should be celebrated. :)
I rarely collect star wars anymore. I declared my collection "complete enough", but I love to see what's being currently being released. These custom figures are so nice, and I am blown away by their craftmanship. Perfect paint aps, and I must say, even better looking than the original ones. No, I'm not taking anything away from the original Kenner collection, but there is definitely passion involved in this product.
These figures look awesome in photos, but in hard they’re even more fantastic. I don’t have any Stan Solo figure that I haven’t been impressed with to this day.
I remember reading an interview with Carrie Fisher where she said she agreed to be in the new star wars movies. One of her conditions was that they never make another slave Leia merch thing.
Yeah, everytime I get one of his figures and etsy asks for a review I don't know what else to say about it. Stan Solo's stuff is perfect. I can't wait to get my Bantha!!!!
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd have new Kenner-styled figures to add to my display shelves. These figures are far more stunning in person! Stan Solo is the best customizer.. accept no substitute.
I know this Stan Solo focuses on SW Kenner figures and that style, but man if it were doable I'd love to see what someone w/ his skills could do for the Super Powers line.
I’m bummed that I’m seeing this now and it looks like they are sold out on Etsy. Hopefully he does a second run or I can find one online. It’s a super clean figure that I want for my collection. Actually any Star Wars collector would want this so I hope they offer more.
Great video on great figures, I've started covering the Artisan Star Wars makers on my own channel, I'm with you 100%we should be doing all we can to support these amazing creators, I really feel these guys are the most exciting things to happen to Star Wars for years!
That's right, The Man behind the Kenner-style Bantha. The real one. I hope this matter is close to being resolved, both for you and Tony. It was a truly sickening display, and you're both to be commended for your professional attitudes. I really enjoyed this video. I no longer collect Star Wars, mainly because I no longer have my origional stuff, but this is always fun to see. Chris Smith is simply the best in the business, and apparrently it's making a lot of people crazy. Hope to see more from him and you soon. Can't wait for 'The Bridge on the River Kwai' War Stories! I read it in high school, and loved it and the movie. Your 'Flyboys' stream was awesome and hilarious.
Stan Solo is more Kenner then Hasbro will ever be. Stan Solo retro action figures are made with passion to detail were Hasbro retro figures are made for profit.
