The project management is off the scale excellent. I’ve worked on some big projects but I’ve never seen anything where the people (1) get what’s needed outside their own bubble (2) get it sorted (3) call out when help is needed. Normally people do their own bit (very well) but it’s someone else’s job to make sure it all works together.

@@danielmelnikov2011 yes it is, my loser dad told me these exact words of what tomislava said and I got to be a computer engineer because of his words. Your life crystalizes and becomes complicated as you age while some 18 year old nets a 6 figure income as u hit the books decades too late. You can't have a profound vision and a sense of mission, it would take years to develop and you'd be on your pension before your life actually becomes something greater and meaningful. Good riddance.

@tropical island I agree with rumpel. I am literally two three four or five times the man Elon is, but have never been given a chance. Poverty prejudice and Injustice have kept me down. Its sad for the world but we will never know what I could have accomplished for humanity. Yes it's never too late to learn and you can always find passion in life. But some opportunities fade away. I thought I was destined to be the greatest athlete ever winning hundreds of gold medals and many different championships in many different sports, but no one ever noticed me, and now I won't be given that chance or am too old to be taken seriously. Its sad thinking what percent of my generation x with broken families spent time growing up watching reruns on TV that could have been spent more more fruitfully. I'm amazed by what I can accomplish just by being focused on something. I have found it's much easier to learn language and music as an adult despite what they say about early brain formation, (just one example), but you can't get back time.

I love that the guy spent the whole time talking and he just listened. So many lead engineers and CEO’s think they know best yet even tho he is making a lot of the decisions and has final say, he still trusts his crews and let’s the just work. It really struck me in part 2 where they took off the 1/2 ring on the booster without even asking and his response was “makes sense, carry on” instead of blowing up and screaming at them about it and about not asking before redesigning the largest booster in the world. It would have taken 3 years of meetings for Boeing to remove that ring from SLS, here the guy building it just said “it’s too slow, screw it.”

It's crazy how he condenses this basic Agile idea that small course corrections are more effective than setting a long-distance target and trying to measure the shot exactly. Now that I think of it, that's why the Aircraft Carrier displaced the Battleship. Battleship guns could only be so accurate with so much visibility. Eventually you can't increase the range. But planes can get in close and attack with precision.

I appreciate that as smart as Elon is, he is fully aware that his senior engineers are at the top of their game and he absorbs what they have to say; attributes of a real leader. Sure Elon is brilliant, but so are all the engineers who work for him and he knows that and respects their design choices and values their opinions and ideas.
