Can someone please explain to me why SpaceX isn’t putting solar panels on top of all their buildings at Starbase? Imagine how much solar could fit on top of the Starfactory alone!

I remember there being solar panels in the renders for star factory. Maybe they just haven’t got to it yet. They could generate a lot of power with all that space for sure.

I don't know this for certain, but I'd imagine they'd want to get every other bit of work done first (like finishing up those HVAC installs) as once those solar panels are on it would restrict work quite a lot.

Right? They used to have a solar farm on site but that disappeared to make room. Even if they couldn't power everything by solar, every little bit helps.

They are now connected to the main grid in Texas which lots renewables including wind and solar. They have back up power in case their grid connection goes down. I think they will eventually put panels on the factory to form a X

Because the payback solar+batteries takes forever, plus you still need to pay for a mains power connection to handle a few cloudy days in a row. So they're much better off selling panels and megapacks to other dupes, sorry, cash-paying-customers.
