This scene is incomplete! After Starbugs thrusters fire, Lister sits down and says he’s now completely alone, just him and 3 1/2 tonnes of curry. After a few seconds, he laughs outrageously, smiles like a school kid and starts to tuck in!
Well, after Rimmer, Cat and Kryten all told him they didn't want to use the time drive, Lister swapped Kryten's heads and removed the guilt chip, dragging them on a wild hunt through time for curry. It was the first time Rimmer and the Cat both had better principles than Lister, who never learned his lesson.
That's my issue with season 7, because the episode before this had them using the time drive but as it only moves you through time they were still stuck 3 million years from earth. Then in the next episode they can even specifically select what floor to arrive in a building
Starbug's size has always been pretty inconsistent, but IIRC, they do actually explain at the start of series 7 that thanks to time travel shenanigans, Starbug got a lot bigger than it originally was.
@@Davz616 There's two versions of this season, one is shorter and has a laugh track then you have this version that had no laugh track but extra scenes.
3:52 I can glad they cut it from the BBC2 broadcast and although it's suppose to be Lister's comeuppance for what happened. But, if they had used this ending, no more Lister.
nah they just let him float in deep space for a bit and then went to go pick him up afterwards. Kryten's guilt chip wouldn't let him leave Lister and without the rear of the ship, it would be very difficult to land Starbug, let alone effectively pilot it at speed without its rear engines.
It's sort of a deleted scene. It was originally released on the Series VII "Xtended" episodes (I had them on video). They were basically just deleted scenes incorporated into the actual episodes. They were Tikka to Ride, Ouroboros and Duct Soup.
New to me, I've always* heard about the Starbug Separation bit....but never saw it, till now. Too bad they didn't have the studio audeince view the 'finished product' for the laughter/applause overdubs like they did the rest of Series VIII. Thanx fer the clip, m8...
Well Lister is the only living crew member, he should out rank Rimmer. Infact Holy should have updated his files to register Lister as captain. Which means the changes against Lister, kochanski should have been dropped. Although Rimmer would still have been in hot water though.
wouldn't work. If he went back and saved the crew. He would have never been in the position to have a time machine in the first place. And if he didnt have the time machine. He couldn't save the crew. Thus a paradox.
If Lister went back in time and save the crew it would erase the timeline: Rimmer would never get brought as a hologram. Cat would never evolve from Frankenstein and Kryten would marooned with the skeletons of the Nova 5 crew for all eternity and never get rescued.
They didn't know where red dwarf was at this point so going back to it would be the same problem as going back to earth, you need to be on the ship and go back to time travel there Based on the series 6 episode when they find the time drive anyway
yea, this was a deleted scene from the end of series 7, episode 1. they cut it jus cos of tym, which sucks cos its a reli funny clip...but at the same tym, still one of me fav. episodes anyway =)
I wish the Beeb re-issued all episodes with the option of disabling the laugh track, really works here. "Dave" channel should do the same on 10 and later.
Rimmer : He's right we dont want to have no Idiotic gaff's until can we make it till half four Kyrten : Nice going! on the idiotic gaff's front sir we lasted a whole 5 seconds there 😂😂
Maybe Rimmer realised after a while life's actually dull without Lister around. Either that or they realised they left essential equipment behind in the rear section for Rimmer's hard light drive. Or Cat's suits and therefore had to go back.
@@danielwilliamson6180 No show designed for a laugh track is funny without one. There's nothing more tragic than someone pausing to wait for laughter that never comes.
That's most of your supplies, and your main engines though. How far are you gonna get on those little thrusters and what must be meager emergency fuel supplies? Also, what kind of a design is that? If anyone brushes against this one giant protruding lever your ship is going to rip itself apart? The Space Corp was a pack of morons.
