Two games of StarCraft 2. These are viewer submitted games in SC2. The first one is a High Diamond/Low Masters level Zerg versus Zerg. The second a High Bronze/Low Silver Protoss versus Protoss. In both of them, the players execute some terrible cheeses.

When you see that Zealot with 8 kills, remember those aren't Zerglings or Probes that he killed, no. They are cannons. That's a 1000% cost-efficient Zealot right there.

That's actually one of the best cannon rush defenses I've ever seen. It was a complete failure, and cost the attacker that much more because he was convinced by his opponent that he was winning and kept on trying to pull out the win that was never going to happen.

when i was like 9 yrs old playing og starcraft i used to try and get as many kills on my hydras as i could, hoping they would turn into hunter killer hydras. would have been a cool mechanic. imagine marines getting promoted or zealots get green wristblades after like 20 kills on a unit.

Total Annihilation: Kingdoms had that mechanic also. The more kills a unit had, they'd get more golden armor/weapons and become more powerful

I love how these cheesers insist on proving you wrong at every step. Just as you say it can't possibly get any worse after the first game, where the cheeser failed twice in the same way - by building drones right as his army structure (pool, warren) was about to finish, we get a cheeser that manages to fail not once or twice, but keep failing continuously for a solid 7 minutes straight, and then some more later. On a slightly unrelated note, I'm actually a bit scared what the second game's cheeser would be capable of once he learns how to cancel structures. We might be looking at 30 minutes of failed cannons instead of just 7 if he loses only 1/4 of his resources...

To Ultra's credit though, they do immediately start up 3 spines and a queen. So some defensive reaction was had, though not the most appropriate one.

Shadowdragon fell into the pit of path-dependence. The first pylon was fine. Heck, even the first three pylons would have been a massive low-commitment advantage for him. He just needed to transition to something other than total focus on cannons.

He didnt even need to transition. He only needed to use the minerals he had in the bank as soon as he could, and cancel the buildings who had less than 3 hits left. he would've had at least 8 cannons alive and shooting if he did so, seeing the terrible defense.

I can't believe I applauded the first game...splitting off those few drones from attacking the roach was the game winning decision there. Loved it. The second game started off just as entertaining but quickly died down when Dawnshatter stopped the rush. I was really fixated on the fact that he didn't chase the probe down with 3 of his own...killing the probe stops all the building potential of the rush even if a pylon does come up

It's possible the Protoss was doing a Cannon Rush Challenge for the hell of it, or for another RU-vidr that gives out these challenges from time to time. If that's the case, the Protoss, to meet the challenge requirements, only had one option.

12 pool doesn't need to produce lings. Don't forget that 12 pool used to be a common opener back when 6 workers were the starting amount, and it wouldn't necessarily get any lings either. Although it is odd to not get at least 1 pair of lings, since they're good for scouting and killing scouts.

This is quite a bit different than in the 6 worker days. 12 pool needs to deal some damage to offset the cost of the pool and associated loss of mineral due to the fact that you can't produce drones as fast. As such, it gives the opponent time to get a strong economic lead, which is a hell of a good step toward winning the game.

The funny thing is, based on how the cannon rush was being defended, if shadow had just cancelled their structures as they were about to be destroyed they probably would've won. Imagine how many more cannons could've been placed if cancels were happening.

@@Iyashu5040 the overlord needs authorization from the higher ups in the lair to spread creep because the overlord vomits creep which would require a lot of energy for the overlord if it was in real life and i think the hatchery lair and hive are memory storages or something so it would make sense that the drones cannot build more advanced structures until they have a blueprint thingy available in their mind And yeah that would of been an easy win

24:35 Lowko, those are prisms, not pylons, though both are made of some kind of crystal in SC2. Pylons relay power. Prisms refract light, which void rays use to focus multiple smaller beams into one big beam.

and this is why i stopped playing sc2 a while ago. all people do is just cheese strat their way to the top. very little skill. and you defend against the cheese/rush strat and they just call gg. 5-10minute games get boring.
