StarCraft History: Boxer's Finals Comeback Shocks The World 

Boxer was such a character man. He brought that old school arcade rat kind of coolness to the game. Ofc now we have micro+macro gods like Flash and the newer gen of ASL names but no ones really been able to capture that cheeky playstyle Boxer would bring. Allied mines, squishing interceptors landing the CC, singular hero marine micro...Just constant pimpest play strats. Like when pro athletes have a streetball background and are able to bully opponents of higher clinical skill level by styling on them.

This was literally the game that got me into pro starcraft. This blew my mind at the time. I could not believe it.

My god this content-oldschoold starcraft from an era one did not take part in with someone knowledgable to add to it-I'm not a fan of "reaction-content" but this is excellent.

Everyone with a time machine: go back to either better the world or make all the money. Tasteless: beat old sc pros.

32:44 Arbiters deal 10 damage, not 5, but it's explosive damage, so only 5 against small units like workers. But the probe attacks about twice as often, so their dps is comparable against big unarmored units, and the probe is actually better against medium or small unarmored units. (In this game though, the Protoss air weapons and Terran vehicle armor were being upgraded.) Island maps, I remember making custom Island maps with a single pathway between them to access via ground to play against AI back in the day (like, 2000 kinda back in the day) on Starcraft so I could cannon myself off and just build carriers for the lulz :-D They really should do both to be honest, put the players in sound proof booths and do the white noise headsets, but not as loud since it wouldn't be necessary to have it so loud, so it's easier to hear comms & in game sounds. I've heard a lot of people say that when you're at a loud live event, the volume of the white noise is so bad that it's hard to hear the game sometimes. That has to be frustrating, especially in games like Starcraft 2, CS etc where sound is important (in SC you can hear the attack of a DT etc before you see it sometimes, stuff like that matters).

I miss the old games that only existed on 480p. Nick and Dan were the gems, Day[9] had some bangers. Guys like Cholera, Rise, and Klazart doing some great casts on the daily. The old Team Liquid addon that would auto block comments and video length to eliminate spoilers. Ah, the good old days.

I think Koreans have a long history of watching "Go" the ancient board game with black and white stones on TV already. So it was a natural transition when PC games like Starcraft became popular. Like imagine if Americans grew up having a channel devoted to just chess games.

Omg, that brings back many memories. waking up at 6am to watch live starcraft from korea specially if [red]nada or boxer were playing. I remember a very cool and unique player from that time called Hasudrone, his matches were wiiiiild.

Yeah that era has no sound proof. All matches have been held with soundproof booths and white noise headset since around the summer of 2006, after someone claimed to iloveoov got benefits by the roar of his fans in the round of 16.

I think one thing that made old BW scenes exciting was lack of information for spectators. RTS games (and video games in general) nowadays give you almost everything you want to know, which is not a bad thing, but... it's something.

Although a slow pace that makes me feel like I could have been a pro for the first several years lol that was an awesome game and awesome moment in history

I lost a game where I had a lot of carriers once. Turns out if you only have 2 obs with them, a group of wraiths can pop those… almost instantly…. Lol. That was on Dire Straights too. GG Tasteless. At least we got some McDonalds afterwards.

The absolute god and innovator of MACRO was the player "NTT". NTT was a magician! Then there was another player called DSDS who opened my eyes to making the entire map my base. Check out NTT though. I am sure there should be some replays left of him. Remember, he was literally the very first dude to ALWAYS macro and to ALWAYS win with it. :D

I just want to say I really really appreciate your perspective on island maps in new games, just because they didn't work for Starcraft doesn't mean we can't try em out again. Trying new things is fun. Games are fun.

Mineral patches have usually been 1500 and geysers 5000 since the very beginning (it's the default in the map editor and what's used in the vast majority of Blizzard maps). Nine patches in the main and seven in the natural wasn't standard though, and there is a lot of variation there both in Blizzard and early KeSPA maps. (And of course, not every map even had a natural, or had gas at the natural.)

I think that back then felt 99% of all games were played on Lost Temple as a map. Great map.

Joyo used to be a race picker, right? He usually played terran but he admits that he didn't want to play TvT versus Boxer. I used to do the "joyo rush" in TvP against top players in my region and it was unstoppable lol, good times.

It almost kinda sucks they balanced this game using maps. Because we lost all the cool unbalanced maps. If it was balanced around the units/races instead then we could maybe have more crazy shit.

Why didn't Joya shuttle his remaining troops over to the terran bases and take out those buildings? Also - the game is not over unless all buildings are destroyed. Boxer cannot take out all those cannons...

No tanks because i think u can fit only 2 compared to 4 goliaths. Broodwar is the real Korean drama. 😂. I wonder if they could randomize maps so the players don’t know the map in advance to play. They would have to explore, adjust to the map.
