Xeno biology facts: Protoss skin is pretty much an all purpose organ. They breath through the skin, hear through the skin and absorb what little water they need through the skin. The Protoss absorb light through their skin for sustenance in a manner similar to plants but are able to absorb energies over a much wider range of the electromagnetic spectrum and can survive without light for a long period of time. They also defecate through the skin by releasing tiny amounts of molecules through pores. Other then the eyes Protoss bodies have no other orifices. They communicate not through sound but through telepathy and are able to translate their language telepathically when communicating with other races, It was never stated how Protoss reproduce when having no orifices but since there are female and male protoss then that means reproduction is done with partner and not asexual. A common theory is that protoss actually are dependent on technology to reproduce, artificially splicing the DNA of a female and male to make an offspring in an artificial womb in a laboratory pod.
Protoss have the strongest and most durable units in the game, but the drawback is that their units are expensive and can't be produced at a rate as fast as the zerg or terran.
@Dante Abaddon Build the wall to keep out the Tal'darim thieves and Terrazine traffickers? Some Protoss are troubled by their brutality and refusal to integrate into the Khala..
You misplaced something you called "demon race" with night elves. Those demons are not to become a race, they are clearly anatgonists and PC controled race.
My friend played Mass Effect and was looking into Starcraft and asked me to explain the Protoss to him. I just said take the Turians and Asari, put them together and you have the Protoss. For the Zerg i said Rachni but more vicious and warlike, and the Terrans were the same but most were at least half Krogan.
This game is incredibly complicated. i actually think you have to start young to get good at this game. mad respect to those who can compete online because it's a fast fast game
High templars being able to storm instantly from warp in. Before a patch there was a research that meant high templars would spawn with the required energy for a storm, now its been removed, so you have to wait say 20-25 seconds.
Zergling rush (assuming a very early rush): wall off your ramp completely with either a second gateway or a forge. Build zealots/cannons and push out once you have a decent army. Reapers: Build a stalker ASAP. The end. Should be part of your normal build order against terran. Mutas: Place two or three cannons behind/around your mineral line and patrol stalkers around the area. Get blink ASAP, unless you have air tech in which case get phoenixes. Otherwise you can choose to all-in him.
Yeah, it's amusing, speaking about it as the unit it is inside the game, but as an entity in the lore of sc, it is still damn powerful. And I concur with you, hopefully it will get buffed in Legacy Of The Void.
Dont kill the little gamer kid in my head who believes there is hope and that warcraft 4 is the only salvation from this mainstream world where you point and shoot like a brainless zombie
priv1leged i know this is two months old, but the devs at blizzcon answered that by saying " We will not begin work nor use resources for a warcraft 4 rts until the last starcraft 2 expansion (legacy of the void), the last diablo 3 expansion ( the one after reaper of souls) are released. Also there has been a warcraft movue that has been in the works since 2008, however, between the movie director and screenplay writers and the actual people at blizzard have had alot conflicting opinions. Currently the movie director for the man of steel superman is said to be the movie director for the warcraft movie however it is not set in stone. Also there have been issues with how to present the movie. Should it be CGI? Or actors with make up? The est. Minimum budget necessary to make such a movie to our( blizzard) standards is set to around 250 million. And we dont want to mess our first venture into cinema."
i know that warcraft 4 will release after i get a wife, have children with her and pay them their first driving lessons. we all know its gonna take time
priv1leged It's kinda funny you said that. My cousin used to play DIablo 2 during is teenage years and he was a big fan of the game. 12 years later, he got married, have 3 childs and NOW, he can play the sequel to somethign he stopped to wait because it's was too fucking long. Again, same thing with me and Warcraft 2 and 3 during my childhood. Im sure I will be able to play warcraft 4 on my death bed at the age of 89.
So they are the equivalent of the Eldar of Warhammer 40k in terms of history and technology the only difference is that the Protoss can be trusted unlike most of the Eldar after their temporary allies serve their purpose they will abandoned them or worst backstab them.
Micael Chinatsu Maki Lol Eldar , i don't know anything about Warhammer 40 but the name "Eldar" is a complete ripoff from J.R.R. Tolkien. The high elves are called Eldar in his books.
***** Well Games Workshop usually gets their ideas from other sources like J.R.R. Tolkien books but they did manage to create something original for themselves.
The Protoss are beyond legendary, I can't wait for Legacy of The Void. Also , could someone add me ? I don't have any players on my list :( -SabreEpsilon
I must admit, the Protoss missions in Wings of Liberty were more fun than I expected. Zeratul is a pretty cool guy, and its nice to change race once in a while. That said, I'm not sure about playing a whole expansion pack campaign with them. But I was wrong before, maybe I'll be wrong again.
Thunderwolf456 I was really excited to use the mothership , then i realized it has a useless attack , it's cloaking field can easily be rendered useless by bringing several detector units. Vortex was kinda usefull , and so was mass recall. But that was nothing new. Cougharbitercoughcough
+KeViNZP i'm sure they could reverse engineer one of the arbiters they brought to Shakuras. The problem isn't that tough , the mothership had to be something strong for the amount of tech and resources you need to get it.
pretty badass. The reality of the game turned out a little different but this presentation shows what the devs had in mind with the race, and it's super cool.
I mean, teleportation, like dropping micro, is only good if the player is good. As for recall, considering the tech tree and cost (400/400) for the Mothership, the opponent has about 20 minutes to end the game, and even then, they can brute force the Protoss army, setting the commander back thousands of resources.
Yes correct setting up the Protoss with basic nessesities is more difficult than any other but it's worth it if done wisely and fast enough. All comes down to the player
Of course balance is wanted, but I was fixed on the weaknesses and powers of the races: Protoss: Big expensive uber-units, Zerg: Little cheap up-units, Terrans: Medium strong units. Balance means every race has different traits, not every race has the same abilities. As an example: In Nostale, all characters are balanced, but the attribute-check says: Fire < Light < Water < Shadow < Fire.
I was talking a more strategic perspective. chess only has 6 units and is extremely complex when you're up against someone better. it's not just the speed, it's the quality of the opposition and just about everybody online is pretty damn good, and very very fast!
Indeed, they don't have mouths. What you see on the picture is a Dark Templar from a tribe that has taken to wearing the bones of fallen Zerg - the fangs you see belonged to a hydralisk.
@nightbringer757 He did in fact, "die". He just transcended reality. See, when he fused the light and dark energies with his ship, the Galrithor, he reached that point in the life of a Protoss elder where a Protoss can be one with the Khala. It's similar to how in Star Wars, when a Jedi dies, and he (or she) becomes a ghost, how they say "one with the Force." Tassadar is one with the Khalai, the Protoss' form of the Force that binds them, surrounds them and ultimately, makes up who they are.
Watch the Heart of the Swarm trailer and pay attention to the final seconds of the video. You can see an Ultralisk taking a Siege Tank shot to the face and walk on like it never happened. Zerg aren't meant to be fucked with. To be fair, it's a Zerg-Protoss war. Terrans IMHO are just in the way. Though of course, Terrans helped a lot so I'll give them that.
@sylvanha Im saying they are alike in some ways. Both are very religious, the protoss remind me alot of the sangheili, both are the technological advanced species in both series(while both series also have a super technological race, Xel'Naga and Forerunners) and both armies focus alot on honour. One difference though is that Protoss focuses on warp technology while the Covenant focus on plasma technology.
a zealot costs like 100 minerals while you get 4 zerglings for 100 minerals, 2 for 50, if im not mistaken so it balances out, also the protoss have regenerating shields, its all as balanced as can be
Cloaked banshees: tech lab on starport should be scouted by your observer (which is the first thing you make from your robo). Make sure cloak is being researched. Get out another observer or build cannons and place stalkers near your minerals.
Terrans they have a good balance in their personality and they have a lot more class as well as powerful music. Not to mention I LOVE the idea of humans killing the Zerg-Protoss hybrid species that is supposed to destroy everything
It is possible, but he is referring to the ability to instantly storm after the warp-in. Now, you can not research the kadarian amulet, leaving freshly warped-in HT's with 25 too little energy to storm.
in any video that has alot of talking, heres what you do to make it funny wether or not its supposed to be funny in the first place, 1: enable caption actions (the cc button) 2: click trancribe audio 3: laugh at the captions XD
I always found it funny that the Protoss are so advanced, yet they are utterly helpless to save their homeworld from the beast like Zerg. If their numbers are so small now , why even take the risk of fighting???
When you're very prideful, you do stupid things. Plus, Aiur has all their technologies. Failure to retake it means failure to re-acquire their lost tech. After all, they made a perfect world, why shouldn't they take it back?
+KeViNZP Yeah they were too dogmatic. I just thought losing their home world so fast after they looked badass in the intro to the original Starcraft (destroying an entire planet) was a letdown
EmileNarud I don't think they were expecting a Zerg invasion on a regular Aiur day. Imagine if a Zerg invasion were to happen to Earth right now. We'd fall by nighttime.
There were no Colossus at that time. There were also no Mothership. According to lore, the Protoss locked the towering Colossi away because they were simply too destructive when they tried to purge infestations. And no, the Protoss were not taken by surprise when they were attacked on Aiur. It was simply a big ass invasion where the Protoss were outnumbered. Let's just say that for every Zealot the Protoss had, the Zerg had around 50 Zerglings to throw at that Zealot.
yes ofc, but you use pretty much only 1 or 2 at each bases and 1 on wall if you are vs zerg. They are just static detector for cloaked units and to spot drops. They are not ment to be massed out
@izvarzone a warp prism won a game for me, as i warped in a few dark templars that killed the last enemy probes, while attacking with my main force it was better than sending the dark templars running normally from my base cause the prism distracted my enemy leaving him anaware of my main force attacking aswell, and since the prism can fly around the map, i was able to do this
so I've heard rumors that Starcraft was supposed to be a 40k game, now that I've taken a better look at it, the guns on the immortal in the concept art look oddly like a shuriken cannon
