You can also click a larva while holding Ctrl key in order to select up to 12 larvae at a time. It's very convenient.

When facing aggressive Protoss, it can be a good investment to early on build at least 2 Sunken Colonies and 1 Spore Colony to protect your base, especially in a position so they can't reach your Drones. (But in this scenario you don't really need to if you utilize those red elite Hydralisks as early as possible.)

4:53 Yeah, that's pretty much the same 1st impression as mine 😁 You'll find out very soon those huge spitters are best when used for swift hit-and-run attacks. You just fire few volleys and when things get too dicey, you simply retreat and use their speed to your advantage, either by letting the reinforcements chase you or by striking at another weak spot weakened by a movement of enemy forces trying to engage you elsewhere. You simply need to learn to choose your battlefield well with them. And also try ambushing any lured foes with your ground units. If you use Burrow on them, they stay underground, invisible until any Detector comes or you unburrow them. This allows to prepare very nasty ambushes but requires a lot of speed from you to manage all of that mess it might create on the battlefield.

The burrow command is great for protecting damaged units and give them time to heal. The enemy has to bring a detector to see them so they're relatively safe.

Select Hatchery, press S key, press D key - favorite combination of Zerg players. You should try it more. Glad you realized you can use rally point on Hatchery.

or just ctrl + click a larva and you can select up to 12 at once

Those red hydralisks you could use ever since 9:42, that's why the guy says to use his warriors because he gives them under your control. You touched them with your overlord so they went under your control. They're actually not regular hydralisks but Hunter Killers which are twice as powerful as a regular hydralisk. Actually with them and the starting army it's possible to just grab the chrysalis and run towards the beacon. I noticed your drone count is very low, so you didn't have much money available. Roughly you'll want about 2 drones per crystal. Also mutalisks are a very powerful unit in numbers, do not underestimate them. The small scourge flyers are anti-air units. They spawn in pairs like zerglings and suicide crash into enemy flyers for 110 damage each. They're quite useful although costly on gas and not always easy to manage.

The scourge work by crashing into enemy air units. Even though they die when they attack, they can still be cost-effective because they're so cheap. At 20:50, you kill 1 Protoss Scout (worth 275 minerals and 125 gas) with 4 scourge (worth 50 minerals and 150 gas - similar to zerglings, you get 2 scourge from morphing 1 larva), which isn't a bad trade. Scourge are very effective at countering transports (dropships, shuttles, and overlords), because their speed and high attack makes it almost impossible for the transport to escape or drop off their units before being destroyed. They're also strong against capital ships (battlecruisers and carriers) because 5 scourge can destroy 1 capital ship and are much cheaper.

yes there were red hydras :D they are very strong and the scourge kill itsself for Air Units and make 100 damage

Those red units (hunter killers) are really really good, you can't make them but if you get them they are very powerful. Later on you get other red units , super versions of zerglings and ultralisks. Be sure to use them in your army!

Ah you'll meet the protoss a lot more in the zerg campaign... So a few MORE points to consider: 1. Protoss have very powerful units, one-on-one Zealot destroys the Zergling, and can probably take a Hydralisk (depends who starts hitting first). Swarm 'em. 2. Overlords!!!! They are supply, detection, transport - make them all the time. Ideally you'll have them spread out on the map everywhere looking for enemies. Like scouts or something. 3. Static defenses - upgrade your colonies. Make them into sunken (ground attack) and spore (air attack/detection) and make a lot of them in your base and around the perimeter. This will stop pesky mineral line hits. 4. Zerg air is fairly limited, but still terrifying. Scourge (those small critters you said were pretty cute) deal a ton of damage to air though they die on attack, and they spawn 2 from each egg. This gives you easy counter to heavy Terran ships like battlecruisers and to the Protoss Carriers. Mutalisks are very powerful and their attack bounces between targets (up to three targets) so 24 mutalisks evaporate oppossition pretty quickly. 5. Make more units. Don't be afraid to max out. Zerg work with large numbers. enjoy~

You finished the mission without using the Hunter Killers (The red Hydralisk). Normally, you are supposed to use those 6 to basically crush through the entire mission. With 2 armor. 160 HP and 20 dmg per shot +having automatic Hydralist speed+range upgradges makes those 6 killing machines enough to beat the entire mission. To go clear it without them is considered the Hard-Mode edition of this mission. I know you missed them, and didnt spot that you had control over the Hunter-Killers. But still respect for clearing the mission without them.

i don't use control groups (too much work lol) but i use the basic hotkeys often (CTRL key is my fav, it selects the same of all units in same screen: larva, units, etc). cozy gameplay! :)

Nicely done, i can't wait for your next Starcraft missions. Is it maybe possible to have one more vod of starcraft in the week? I think you are also enjoying it?

Haha! The Hunter Killers are REALLY good (the Red Hydralisks that you are given) They have twice the HP and twice the attack of a regular Hydralisk. Sadly you don't get any more of them for a long while. Remember to upgarde your Spore COlonies. Sunken Colonies attack ground and Spore Colonies attack Air and are detectors Scourges are really good against expensive enemy fliers, as they kill themselves but deal massive damage. They are dirt cheap, but weak, so you need a swarm of them to be effective. Good Vid!

Awesome! I like how the game gets more and more difficult and expects you to learn everything faster. Yet the difficulty curve is still pretty well balanced. The next level's gonna be tough though. Good luck!

Zerg are a very fun faction, since the way they build units encourages you to build Hatcheries, leading to them expanding a lot, trying to take more geysers and minerals from the map, to build a lot of units. Scourges are like Zerglings, they spawn in pairs, can only attack air by blowing themselves up. Much like Zerglings, they are great to bulk up your forces if you are facing a lot of air, since they cost mostly gas. Upgrades are very important for the Zerg, given their tendency to mass units, you get a lot of value from your Evolution Chamber upgrades. I hope you keep having fun with the Alien races, I think you will like the Protoss even more, once you get there!

Another good victory! \o/ wondering what will be spawning from the chrysalis :3 Btw the creep colonies help by spreading the wonderful purple goo, which is the natural base of a fine zerg base (only growing buildings on purple goo). In order to keep those pesky boring similar-looking species (terran and protos) away from the base, creep colonies could be evolved into spore colonies (shooting at air targets) and sunken colonies (stabbing land-based targets). Happy zerglinging!
