I think you should casually do the cc as you can -- spring forage, crops and fish are no hardship really. Don't kill yourself to do it all in the first year like getting a barn, truffle, etc. It looks like fishing is your answer to hunger and thirst right now. I always like backpack upgrade first, but saving for strawberries or upgrading a tool would be fine too.
Episode 2 already! I love it! Personally I don't think death should mark the end of the run. Yes, it would make it a bit more intense in the mines but considering it's been a bit difficult to find a series that is both fun for all (yourself included) and manageable from your end to keep up I feel that ending due to getting mobbed would be quite disappointing. Maybe consider some kind of penalty for death, but not the end of the run! PS: Saying yes to the dog was a great choice! Having him won't make your challenge any easier, plus it may help Derek to maintain a bit of sanity and comfort during such a hard time in his life! Keep it up Sharky, thanks for the fun videos!
I think, as long as it doesn't produce hardship for the farmer, that doing at least some of the CC would be good--the rewards would certainly be helpful! I think you should spend some money on parsnip seeds--in order to get your farming level up high enough to make a scarecrow BEFORE you plant the strawberries...
I think it's worth keeping some seaweed and algae to make a fishpond. With remixed bundles, you may end up needing roe but even without, a fishpond will be great for grabbing fish to eat or cook, and the roe may be good for thirst! Also befriending Caroline for the tea sapling recipe, a nice cup of tea must surely get the thirst up!
I love this series, the CC gives you free stuff, I think your character would love to help with that. Also, since you didn't buy the dog and it basically just "came to you", it's pretty realistic. Who wouldn't keep a stray, when they're lonely :3
Personally I think you should do the bundles. Derek already had money, this is more him growing an appreciation for the world around him (and eventually getting rich again XD), and I think the community center would be a good route for his personal growth 😀
It seems to me that doing the CC would be very beneficial to Derrick especially since he really wants to start again and build up properly this time. The vibe I get from Derrick is that he wants to do things right, he wants to belong to something bigger than him and he's going to need the support of the community! He can't do this alone, after all. He needs a support base of friends and family! After all, he's already started with Dobby ❤️
I think getting a coop early would really help as you'd have eggs constantly which would be good for food, also I think the CC would add more of a challenge which I think would be cool 😊
Love this series ❤. Have you thought of crafting a candle and hold it around at night? You could also place them around the town. I always love good uses of tree sap. Also when do you get recipe for crafting fertilizer? That could help you sell your crops for more right?
CC for sure. You get useful rewards and it makes more sense for a guy who’s supposed to be broke than doing Joja Mart. You get seeds and food rewards which certainly seems more than worth it.
The dog was free - Derek should take advantage of every opportunity! CC in the second year would be doable. Right now he's getting the groundwork for that. A fun series. :D
I watched episode 1 last night so I'm really happy 2 is out! This is a really awesome concept and makes Stardew so much more interesting again with the added difficulty of food and water!
I wouldn't end this one if Derek dies. I mean, while it does make sense, it would be sad to lose a good play through. And, it can make sense in the story. After all, there's already a supernatural element at play in the game. And an alien one as well. Living through death ought to be possible! As for the CC, if there's extra at some point during the year, donate it. If not, I don't think someone who's on the verge of starving would be able to contribute much. This first year, I think it would make more sense to build up some security with food stores and money to pay bills.
You should be checking for spring onions every day, as they're the one forage exempt from the "resets on Saturdays" rule, so they reset every day. Personally, I'm a lazy bugger so I use the screenshot function in the settings menu to check whether it's worth running all the way down to the other end of the forest because I'm not wasting the time if there are no spring onions.
I have been playing this game for a long time and I never even attempted to use that feature outside of the farm! Usually I don’t miss stuff like that, but I will totally have to remember that’s a thing!
I had no idea about the mixed seeds tip. 😂 I love this concept for a series, and you've given your character a backstory. Looking forward to future episodes, as long as you keep enjoying it. Best wishes.
Loving this series can’t wait for more! Just got yourself a new subscriber 😊 Don’t have the death be the end because playing normally death will catch you so quick especially at skull cavern I agree with others maybe just have a big penalty I would NOT want to see this series come to an end anytime soon
I think the tax is going to make it really difficult, because it's so HIGH. Day 6 was what, 175 or so gold. Imagine the end of the season! If you can config the mod to make that less, it would be better I think. I reckon do the cc, but casually. Chillaxed. And buy a bunch of cheap seeds and farm for a few days, to level up to get the scarecrow. 😊 Those are my thoughts!
If you have no more than 15 crops in the ground, there are no crows coming for them. Do the CC, the small rewards are worth it - and the big ones even more.
I understand when things are missed it can be a bit irritating. But most importantly I understand it's just a video game lol! Stardew is meant to be chill. I appreciate that you make these videos, and how you play Sharky 💯 Also, I think it would be a bit extreme to end the series if you "die" in the mines from a monster. You technically wake up in Harvey's, so maybe give yourself a penalty instead? Like you have to put that days profit in the trash.
I understand about your getting overwhelmed by the very modded play-through. I started at first with all the mods you did, but at once started taking some out. I still have a lot of mods, but I am not having to edit videos about my play. I also can relax by watching your channel. 😊
Loving the series! Got my sub with it. If you want to roleplay it, you could have him just trying to recoup after the trauma of getting backstabbed by the love of his life. Let him take his time and find new motivation/purpose in life.
Love this series and so glad to see another ep so soon! I agree with all the comments re the cc, just do it casually bo need to challenge getting it done asap. I think this series already has a few challenges as is and I personally want you to enjoy this as much as we all are 😊
This series is great! I look forward to following along with your progress. I would definitely try doing the community center because you can get some great perks from the prizes you get along the way, even if you need to take your time with it. You said Derek is personable, completing the community center helps bring the community together, and maybe it will renew his faith in people again 😂 I expect the greenhouse would be a good priority, so that you can have the ability to grow crops during the winter. And if you never unlock ginger island, that could be handy for keeping your farm going. There probably will be a delicate balance with the money you earn and taxes, but you are aiming to ultimately return to riches. I would also do your best to invest in upgrading your ax and pickax because of the efficiency improvements. I would also say that when you “die” in the mines you’re still found and taken to the doc, so you still ultimately survive, but maybe that’s it for the day, just go home and rest. But if you starve or die of thirst, that would be it. Unless you somehow also end up at the doc for dehydration. The bat cave could help in a number of ways for the greenhouse bundle, though it might be a while before you unlock that. I usually choose mushrooms, but you can save money on fruit trees that way. Again, great series! Good luck!
The hunger and thirst mods are interesting. I think it would be cool to have a craftable that collects rainwater for drinking which would be safer than drinking pond or river water? If there are any modders out there.
Definitely go for the community center, because it's so much cheaper than Jojamart. Plus, as soon as you unlock the greenhouse, you can put your 2 or 3 strawberry seeds in there. Get the seedmaker, and make strawberry seeds to expand within the greenhouse, as well as to plant on the first of a future spring. Also, SPRING ONIONS EVERY DAY! Also, why do you avoid the gray rocks in the mines, which GIVE XP and are guaranteed to give you resources, in favor of breaking the brown rocks that give NO XP, and have no guaranteed resources? Why do you do that? It makes no sense. But, GOLLY, this made me want to play, SO MUCH! I'm still recovering from hand surgery, and it's driving me crazy, not being able to play Stardew Valley. WAAAAH! I want to try this challenge. What mods are you using, please? Especially the mods to give you thirst and hunger, as well as debt and taxes.
Always have a dog... I don't care what your narrative is, have a dog. ;) If it's a cat, there's a little less thrill to it, but it still works. BUT if you add the "Cats Bring you Gifts" mod, then cats are almost necessary. PS (despite the lateness of the comment): Game has built in recoveries for mobs nearly wiping you out; Harvey seems pretty handy with surgery too. Not sure he can do much if you've done starved yourself to death though, doesn't seem like it's within his training. ;)
Death ends the run? Noooooo! But, if you can have a penalty of some sort, such as not being allowed to eat ANYTHING the next FULL DAY, then that will be a sufficient deterrent, I think.
Maybe get crab pots in the future? Future passive sashimi. Will ponds stop producing roe while in debt? Couldn't you breed sashimi fish in them too? Or better fish dishes. These ideas won't help right away.
I think you should add to the CC as you go, when you can, without any stress added to what is already a challenge. Too much stress could spawn a mild rage quit.
Sharky I'm so glad that you've uploaded another episode! I do think that including the trellis mod would be beneficial. It's always a good idea to have a companion on the farm, especially a furry one :) Oh! And I'd wait on the cc until next year. Derick needs to get his own finances together before giving back to the community lol
I'd say do the CC, but don't worry about rushing it. You might want to think about using the mod that lowers the requirements for the Cookout Kit, as that would make sense and allow you to use it before you get a kitchen.
sharky, you gotta attempt the cc, the rewards are too good but dont make to much of a focus. permadeath is something I'm super down with. that will set this playthrough apart from all your others and add an extra bit of tension for each video. great series i hope that it continues. ps i highly recommend making all the villagers your friend. you get tons of stuff in the mail, food, explosives, ect
i think the correct line here instead of buying the bread was to get the sashimi recipe early since you can then turn the bad fish into a consistent amount of food Also is there any chance you have a mod list somewhere for this and instructions on how you set it up - id love to try this type of run out!
I vote for CC. It will help to get the bonuses from the bundles, and feels like Derek would want to give back to the community that's saving him instead of giving in to corporate greed which ruined him.
Honestly what about going jobs instead of cc? I usually don’t in my runs but I feel like it fits with a rags to riches, plus the cola machine could help with thirst
I'd say work on the CC but just don't use any of the small rewards (like the forage seeds, crystalarium etc) due to Derek not trusting creatures he doesn't know. Another thing is I'm pretty sure that no matter what, crows don't eat mixed seeds.
Do the CC, remember you get rewards when a bundle is completed. With each reward could help to make some money/friendships/food. P.S: Befriend Caroline for the tea saplings, good early game money.
Easy way to get out of poverty fish until lvl 10 and pick angler you can lvl up to 10 by getting perfects in fishing if you are dedicated you can get to lvl 10 in spring year 1
I love this series! I need to know what mod yoy are using for the crops and artifacts though! It would fit in so well in my game but I cant find it anywhere
I am making Stardew Valley content on my RU-vid channel now, but there is one problem, is there copyrighted music in Stardew Valley? I am definitely worried about that and since you are one of my favorite Stardew Valley content creators, I’m asking you for help, but you don’t have to answer but I’d still like to know.
I think u might doo the Community center more randomly?? when u be sure ur fine financially then u can save some stuff for cc :) but for now focuse on geting money to buy importand stuff and the most importand to get food and water :) The idea of end series when ur character dies i think is to rough becouse some times u just unlucky and u can die prety easy like stuck on stone or on bug and hiting it dont work (that happend to me latley) so u might die ryly fast and end such great series would be a shame especially that u doing so well and i lov to wach it :) Keeping dogo was great idea hes great companion and we can pretend he is protecting u from mobs that spawn on ur farm in night :) I think good investment would be to buy as first fishing rood as we all see fish give u quite good food and hydration so hetting more better fish would be nice not only for that but also for money :) next fter this i would focuse on getting maby a coop?? geting eggs every day is nice money and foods :)
