In this video, I talk about Starfield and why it is genuinely brilliant. If you're a fan of sci-fi games this is a must play, and is an out-of-this-world gaming experience, one you should definitely play before the Shattered Space DLC comes out.
#starfield #starfieldgame #starfieldgameplay #starfieldupdate #starfieldreview #xbox
Let's get one thing straight, this game is far from perfect. There are a fair few things that are wrong with the game, as there are with a lot of games, and there are somethings that admittedly are flat out unacceptable in a modern day release. But in an overall sense, this is one of the most fun games I have played in a really long time. One that I would argue is quintessentially Bethesda.
To be perfectly honest, I first played this game right when it was available on game pass. As a fan of Fallout 4 (another controversial opinion I know), I figured if what bethesda was selling was a Fallout game but in space, it would be a perfectly good way of passing the time. And since it was on xbox game pass I didn't have to spend any more money that I wasn't already spending.
However the more I played, the more I understood that this game is a slow burn, all the things that I initially saw as boring, such as the questing just got better and better the more I played the game. Even the ship combat which I vowed I would do as little as possible at the start of my play through became so much more fun the more I progressed the game with different ships, perks, and just larger scale combat. The general combat also got more fun as I got more perks, powers and guns.
It turned out Starfield is Genuinely Brilliant!

You're a breath of fresh air. Man, the worst thing you can do is say your opinion may be "controversial"; opinions are not controversial, they're just opinions. The toxic culture of gaming and our social media obsessed society in general wants to make us feel bad for expressing our opinions if they are not "popular", like somehow it's lame to love a game that "everyone" hates. I love a lot of unpopular games and I'd never for a moment feel embarrassed about that. I think Fallout 4 is the best of the entire Fallout franchise and I think Starfield is even better than Fallout 4, and I couldn't give a flying rat's ass if anyone agrees with me on that or not. Great video liked and shared keep up the good work!

I agree with the majority of your points, however, I don't understand how you can say this game has the best exploration and world building of all Bethesda games... This is literally Bethesda's worst attempt at exploration due to the copy/paste points of interest and empty worlds...

He did say Bethesda and to point Fallout 4 was the best they had to offer. BUT if you are going to procedurally generate planets on this scale you do at least 1k poi unique from each other. Not just "mine" or oh look, "caved in mine" or just "cave" that looks like every other "cave" on every other planet. Bethesda's strengths were their "hand drawn" locations even to the gnomes and mannequins they did in Fallout 4. Yeah sure they did the "Kid in the Fridge" fiasco but the rest was fairly competent.

The coherence and world building of Starfield is the best in Bethesda's history. Every weapon, part of your ship, suits, food, cities, faction and even planets has tons of lore and information. Do not blame the game if you were to lazy to search all this. Everything was there just awaiting to be discovered.

I had never played a Bethesda game previous to this year, yet I’m having a blast playing Starfield. It’s a game for a more mature audience as there isn’t much sex, cursing, or drugs (from what I’ve seen), and it’s a really nice change of pace for someone like myself who also enjoys GTA. In Starfield the world isn’t out to get you, it’s waiting for you to explore it by meeting new people, forging new relationships, and getting thrown into unique situations. The choices I make during a quest-line have an affect on the outcome of the situation and also what other people believe or don’t believe, like the Terrormorph questline. Also, you receive exclusive spaceships, spacesuits, clothes, accessories, and official titles by completing these quests.

This sounds great. I think I did see a mod that randomizes battles/encounters more. Like enemies will call for reinforcements more often - and you'll also stumble across far more battles between factions. I even saw it may have regular POIs suddenly get invaded by opposing factions as well so you aren't the ONLY guy in the galaxy trying to loot a place and it makes it feel more alive. The POI system was simply not filled out enough. It was almost like they created a base for modders to create masterpieces with. However, it's taken a long ass time to start arriving at more content like this that I wish we could have just had from launch!

Upon release, I thought the game was meh. I rushed through the whole game to see this "New Game+". I didn't spend enough time anywhere to appreciate aspects of the game, and I let the internets opinion of this game ruin my own.. But... I'm currently 200 hours into my second playthrough, and I feel so incredibly immersed in this game and have not grown tired of it. Incredible story lines and characters, a well thought out universe, and some INCREDIBLY beautiful planets if you are willing to give exploration a chance. Once this game started getting hate, for things like 30fps on console at launch, no seemless launching/landing off of worlds, and IMO the MISUNDERSTANDING that all planets are barren of content, people just ran with the hate and it snowballed. I think many of us who love the game now were influenced by this hate at launch. This game wasn't given a fair chance and I hope after a few DLCs people come back and just play the game for what it is, I think they will thoroughly enjoy it

That's what I say: STAY WAY FROM HYPETUBERS. Yesm the kind that will jump on the bandwagon and point whatever direction the hype wind is blowing. The same happened with Cyberpunk on release. Had tons of problems but I had IMMENSE fun with it even then. But if you listened to influencers, one would think it was the worst game ever. Pretty sure once the hate fog finally settles many people will be able to enjoy Starfield for what it's worth, regardless of its (big) flaws. Also, if someone does something after being told it's sh1t, anything bad will be perceived 10x worse than it would if they just went in with no biases involved.

I love the gameplay but I hate the world. Everything about it feels wrong. Like how the Free Star Collective must have billions of citizens, but the Freestar Rangers is composed of five people and they have the owner of a strip mall space station on their council of governors. The game should have been set right after the evacuation of Earth, after an apocalypse that killed 99% of the population (that would still leave 100 million people) or more. That would be a perfect setting for pirates, poverty, and settlement building.

I did not find the writing or worldbuilding interesting or immersive but I did like Neon better than other areas. To me it fails even in comparison to most Bethesda games. The side content is definitely where it is at though! I found that avoiding random radiant quests and locations and focussing on the sidequests improved my experience a lot. Thank you for making this video bc this game gets such a bad rep and it’s the reason I didn’t play it for such a long time. I’m a nerd who’s obsessed with astronomy and I was excited to check this game out. But when I finally got my Xbox Series X and I heard all the bad reviews, I decided not even bother. Then one day while another game was updating, I saw I had some extra space, so I said what the hell. The best decision I’ve made this year. I absolutely LOVE this game. I’ve had it for maybe 3 weeks and I’ve put it over 55 hours. It’s football season and I rather play this game than watch football. I abandon my own family during football season, and now I rather play Starfield. Just to give people perspective lol. So that’s why I can’t understand for the life of me some of the complaints this game has received. How can people say there’s nothing to do lmaoooo. There is nothing BUT things to do. You can’t even finish a mission without stumbling into 2 other missions you can do later. Love the customization. Love the variety of missions so you can mix it up. The details and lore are impeccable as well. Is the game perfect?? No. But the potential for this game is endless. They have built the foundation to add on to this game for years to come. 1000 worlds they can continue to build onto???? Can’t wait to see what more they come up with #TeamStarfield

I honestly keep going back to it. I can say that I’ve never wasted money on a Bethesda game. When you compare what some other developers are offering at the same price point, but that’s his games have always been a bargain in my opinion. I have returned to Skyrim fallout and Starfield all this year and have pumped in another 2 to 3 dozen hours into the games. I hardly ever do that with other games. Not only do I like to return to the atmospheres that they have created, but to see what mods or updates have done to the game progressively just keeps the replay value far greater than other games. For single player atmospheric games I think Bethesda still offers the absolute best for your money.

Starfield is by no means perfect, but it isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. The main quest is where it falls flat for me, but that's the case for every Bethesda game imo. starfield's main quests really makes you think towards the end before the unity, it gives you a choice of morality which i really enjoyed and wished there was more of. The UC vanguard quest/Ryujin/Crimson fleet questlines are all great and blew me away on first playthrough, and they really felt like the true Bethesda styled questlines, and reminded me so much of old Bethesda games. the gameplay is easily the best out of all Bethesda games, gunplay/ship battles feel great. and ship building is phenomenal. My only complaint there being that melee kinda sucks, and the gun variety is poor. I really liked the addition of the "persuade" in dialogue but it feels like they focused too much on that and let go of a lot of other dialogue features that i miss. starfield is by no means perfect, but it is not a bad game either, its a solid 7/10 for me, with potential to grow higher with future dlcs. as all Bethesda games start to shine with their dlcs In my opinion. skyrim with no dlc wouldnt be nearly as fun for me, same with oblivion and fo4.

Its an ok game. The real problem is that with the sheer amount of time they had to work on this game. I just expected a more refined experience on par with Skyrim. Better armor crafting, weapon crafting aesthetically speaking. Dragonborn 2.0 powers didnt look or sound more unique in terms of magic space powers to LOOK more cool and have more impactul gameplay. Not be weaker than a single bullet. Another issue is the vast majority of NPC's are all preachy as hell, and no real way to be who you want your character to be. IE good or bad Starborn which the game explicitly says you should do what you want. But every scripted reaction is always negative almost always. Nothing like Skyrims nuance with Dark brotherhood and thieves guild with actual rewards My final real issue is just the starborn items themselves and how just... Mediocre but cool looking they are. Its like they intentionally developed 99% of the games armor and ships to look meh, but the ONE cool upgrades arent good statewise and cant even be upgraded without replaying the game 10x over, and they STILL get less than ideal stats even at max playthroughs Talk about a stick without a carrot. Its a fine game to waste time in if you have nothing else. But I will never call this game brilliant tbh

After returning to SF since I've last played it at the start of '24, I'm noticing that people are still complaining about all the things this game isn't, instead of appreciating that Bethesda really tried something new and imo did something special. Yes, there are bugs, but that's expected from a BGS title honestly, and it's been this way for at least 15 years; aka it's something that likely won't change. But SF offers something that so many players seem to be completely unaware of: It takes its' time to unfold. It seems to me that more and more people are unwilling or unable to take their time with something and appreciate it. Starfield won't work for someone who only wants instant gratification and results or who doesn't understand subliminal storytelling - or both. SF isn't Fortnite, it's not No Man's Sky, Star Citizen or Escape from Tarkov either. Hell, it's not even as close to Skyrim as so many people think it is. Skyrim itself is only remembered so fondly because there's a billion mods for it that lengthened the llife-cycle of that game. To me, it has always been pretty boring, I was always more of a Fallout fan tbh. But it doesn't matter here. What I'm trying to say is that in order to understand and appreciate Starfield, you have to take your time with it and let it sink in. The storytelling and quest system, while not flawless, is still deeper than what any of the previous modern Bethesda have offered so far. The fact that it's not something you're going to rush through to get your hourly dopamine hit is something that we should be thankful for, especially in the gaming world of today where most AAA-games aren't much more than giant microtransaction advertisements.

I always loved Starfield but it's probably b/c I had no expectations & no need to play it but all the videos (majority the bad ones) mad me want to try it when it came out free on gamepass. Man I had a blast & right now it fits into how I would play games after I completed them but didn't want to start over. I would make my own missions in my head. Like even gta 5 I played a lot of hours after I had completed the game. I was basically just a tow truck driver with Franklin or I would do supply runs with Trevor. Same with saints row 2. I did every u can do mission & faction wise & even activity wise. The main thing that hooked me was the UC faction quest. The factions were damn near games by themselves. I've went into damn near every system in the game. Not solar but things u can do. I never thought I would get into ship bubuilding b/c it looked to difficult but then at a time seeing everyone's ships on youtube made me want to invest time & skill points into ship building & piloting. It's krazy b/c that journey of becoming a pilot & master ship building along. So doing these things in between was just like living my life & working b/c the main mission doesn't pay u like that. I invested in the commerce skill. I was master weapon building, working on suit building, b4 I stopped. But the shattered space dlc made me come back to get back used to the game. Now ive been sucked into surveying planets & having a ball...KRazy how ive only been back 5 to 6 days & they've added the buggy so I dont have to jetpack everywhere to get resources

I played Starfield for 140 hours at launch and binged it thoroughly. Absolutely loved it. All the negative reviews and crap online about the game honestly shocked me or felt very dishonest to me, and it still does. It was one of the best games I played that year, along with Mario Wonder. I can't wait for the expansion. I actually feel bad for the people who worked on the game because I think, for the most part, they all genuinely tried to make a great game. They were probably just as clueless about the reaction as I was. At the end of the day, I think there really was anti-Bethesda and anti-Microsoft sentiment that drove a lot of the hate towards Starfield. Everything from bandwagoning, to getting back at them for Fallout 76, to being upset that it was not coming to the PS5, to just hating Starfield because it was now an Xbox exclusive, and many other things. For the first week, I genuinely feel like most of the feedback wasn't really about the game. There were a whole lot of dishonest arguments and claims made, and a lot of extreme cherry-picking going on. But sadly, only a person who played it for more than an hour could tell you that honestly, and if you did try to correct the record, there was no shortage of people just waiting to dunk on you and strawman your positions and throw out ad hominem attacks. Because the hate on Starfield never stopped - IGN and several twitter accounts and channels wouldn't stop bashing the game, I actually felt like this was some form of coordinated propaganda to change public opinion. It doesn't make sense how this hate went on for literally 3 or 4 months after release. That's the really concerning part. This is a very disproportionate response, regardless of what one thinks of the game. And you even said it - it worked on you. That media machine actually got you to stop playing it. I feel like that was the intent. That's crazy to me. If you loved New Vegas and games like this, I would expect you to give it more of a chance. It's not every day a great western RPG of this style comes out. It's rare in fact. But the media bashing still worked on you. In my entire life, I have never seen a game more hated online compared to Starfield, and it's sad because the game, while not perfect, is genuinely fantastic. It's a very easy 8.5 or 9 out of 10 for me.

To which I am going to say you are wrong they do have it figured out, launch game with basic UI someone else that is not getting paid fixes it, an that is how these games actually are. So the reality comes down to this, are you the end-user interested in taking the game tools and polishing the game to what should have been its release state? If so well congrats you will likely enjoy the game, but if not well than the game was not really meant for you. Now this is a serious problem see the issue is that Bethesda is not a small company, it has games that are expected to compete against other games that come in a more reasonable state of release polish, and even if you were to have Bethesda polish an fix up the game well it is still not a real gem of a game, nope not until some group of people come in with a serious overhaul do the games finally get good. An we know this because we have a history going back 2 decades to prove that.

@masterpainter78 You clearly know Bethesda's product line, but fail to see their product line. I've got about 1500 hours in so far. 2 of my 3 disappointments are being addressed by BethSoft. It's exactly what it said on the tin, Bethesda Does Space. As you kindly point out, we have 20 years of history of Bethesda making a game and a Creation Kit, saying to us, "Here's a framework, now make it YOURS." And, yeah, this turd could use some more polish, you say; so here's a rag, if you don't want to polish this turd, go find another one to polish. No skin off my nose either way. They make playgrounds, so don't whine about the lack of a billiard table, just mod 1 in. The only thing I can add further is "Good, you're finally awake..." Edit: Damn, now I've got Morrowind's horrible graphics stuck in my head.

Honestly, I enjoyed a lot of aspects of this game. The questing is a step up from their previous titles. The worlds tend to feel very undercooked, especially compared to their previous titles where the entire thing was handcrafted. Major cities are cool, but their immediate surroundings are not, and that sense of wonder from exploration is, ironically, the weakest in this game out of any of their previous titles because of that. This _should_ be the game with the best exploration, but it's actually the shallowest when it comes to that. The procedural generation tools they created for this game are genuinely impressive, especially after giving the Creation Kit a look, it's very powerful stuff and creates very convincing worlds, albeit barren ones. The random outposts and points of interest do not have enough variations to justify the vast majority of the game being procedurally generated. I would've preferred 5-10 small planets with way more handcrafted points of interest than what we ended up getting.

The problem I think people have is they expected the game to be something that it isn’t. This game isn’t made for everyone. But the audience that it is made for do really enjoy it. I personally love a lot about the game and I 100% agree with the criticism that is valid. Yes the exploration can be better and the main story could be better but damn man it’s a pretty good Bethesda game at the end of the day. I occasionally will return to this game every so often when I get the urge. The soundtrack is super underrated too.

People said that about many games that turned it around. Often forgotten but Fallout 4 received similar criticism but now people look back so fondly on the game. I will admit to this day fallout 4 is probably my played game and definitely one of my favorites so I will always prefer that to Starfield, yet I can't deny Starfield has captured that same sensation at times.

I really really want to love Starfield but I just can't. I'm not able to develop feelings for this game. I just don't care about it. It was my most anticipated release the last years and I really had to force myself to keep playing. Deinstalled and installed it like 5 times already. Every 3 weeks or so I want to give it another chance because maybe I just was not in the right mood the last time but there's nothing everytime I start it. Started my 15th or so Skyrim run like 3 weeks ago and everyday I spent hours exploring Skyrim even tho I know everything already. Starfield does not give me that in the slightest. The comparison to Skyrim is a harsh one I know but Starfield just did not give me anything. Right now I'm installing it again to give it another try and I will keep on doing so until I have the fun I expected to have. But Starfield to me personally just feels somehow shallow and I doubt this will change over time. I was excited for the modding community to have a great impact on the game but Bethesda does not want modders to improve their games anymore. Various actions by Bethesda over the last years prove this. Overall Starfield shattered all my hopes and deams about The Elder Scrolls 6. I still can't really put in words my feelings towards Starfield. One word that comes to my mind is sad. I really don't want to ruin the game for the people that enjoy it. Just know I really envy you and wish I would've had the same experience you guys had

BGS games are always so massive in scope and take so long to produce I think people are ultimately disappointed when it doesn't have the depth they are expecting. This is not because BGS is bad or lazy, it's because getting the game up to par with people's massive expectations would change development times from 7 years to 10+ with major support from the studio long into the future beyond even DLCs and patches
@TahmidHO

I think some disappointment is player driven. Some people commented that they are disappointed they couldn't explore the whole universe which is a bit ridiculous to ask for.

@@TahmidHO Right, I think the expectation for Starfield was basically "Every sci fi game you have ever played combined into one massive game" which is never what Starfield was marketed as, but given the immersion and depth of previous Bethesda games people's expectations were very high, and ultimately Starfield was NOT like many other sci fi games. Personally I would like it if BGS wasn't so secretive about their games leading up to release, that might help them manage expectations so this doesn't happen again, if they told us "Hey, here's what ES6 will be like and some different systems we have" like 6 months before release instead of dropping a trailer that doesn't reveal much about the game 3 months before release

The one thing I strongly feel needs to be fixed and very well could be is smarter NPC. It completely breaks immersion when you can freely draw your weapon and no reaction from any NPC.

@MexiRambo

@@TahmidHOexactly. I wish there were consequences for dialogue choices too. I feel like you as a player can’t really change the narrative no matter what dialogue you choose. Take the Ron Hope quest for example. I really wanted to throw that asshole in prison but instead had to off him and his guards lol
@TahmidHO
@TahmidHO Месяц назад
@@MexiRambo It's funny you mention that specific quest because there's actually several different options you have for resolving it. I understand the sentiment, "I wish I could throw him in jail" but the fact that he attacks you instead of willingly being arrested is not really immersion breaking. In that quest you could simply accept his bribe, Keep Rons secret without the bribe which is essentially the same as before without money. Then you can choose not to keep his secret which considering the character of Ron Hope sort of makes sense why he would rather kill you out right than sit there and go quiet to jail. In this aspect I would say this game was better than Skyrim but worse than Fallout 4 and 3.
