I worked same job for 12 years. 7 of us guys as devs, two women as pm and business analyst. We all got along so well and it was such a tight knit group. We hired a QA they/them. Didn't think much of it. This person single handedly dismantled our group and half of us left and set the company back years. It wasn't just the use of pronouns. It's the rest of the issues they bring to the table. Things you wouldn't imagine are now issues being reported to HR and requiring mandatory training. Never again.

Tbh I’m glad all of this is getting more attention and hopefully more ppl speak up about their true feelings about it. It’s so frustrating trying to talk to ppl and explain why being called a “period haver” is the equivalent of being referred to as an “it”. The fact it has taken this long for people to really start pushing back is one of the biggest issues. Far too many people dismissed the agenda with "So long as they leave me alone, I don't care," and only started reacting when the things they enjoy (their video games, movies, comic books, etc) began to be affected. If society at large had pushed back ten years ago when this first started to become blatant (and yes, it was around LONG before, just much more subtle), it would have been much easier to stop.

The scary thing nowadays is they no longer promote their woke ideology before they launch a game or a movie, they just insert it. A pronoun is used when you're not addressing the person you're referring to. It's the third person. Why people are trying to dictate how I refer to them in their absence is one of the craziest ideas I have ever come across and it certainly doesn't alter my opinion that they are total idiots!

Right on young man. Accountability is an amazing thing. It's actually very cathartic and freeing.

When Az raged and screamed it was more or less him blowing his top. The problem is that it's not just pronouns, his original video was him facepalming while playing Starfield because a character in a quest went on this diatribe about how she was a clone of a man. A girl, saying she was a clone of a man. THAT was what set him off. He was already facepalming while it happened, and then that viral clip was him ranting about it. It's not just the pronouns, you just can't play a game without being fed this stuff like girls being clones of men. You eventually have to make the decision on whether or not you want to just avoid everything that caters to this stuff, or you can put up with it to attempt to enjoy the product even with this nonsense in it.

The sad thing is, I almost got fired from my job for not conforming to theses gender ideologies. I was telling my boss and our HR department that I didn't feel comfortable learning about it and they told me I had to or its refusal of work, which I can get fired for. They said I had to respect these people, but no one is willing to respect me.

The point of this is understanding that they want to keep pushing what most have already decided they don’t want in their games or their media. The game also had a lot of bugs going on in it that made the gameplay another issue as well.

Starfield doesn't just have pronouns-- it has characters that are gay and trans. On Paradiso, one of the houses on the beach had a gay couple sleeping in bed when I went inside lol. Then there's doing a quest for a gay man who talks about his husband on the ECS Constant. Then there's the clone that's female but was cloned from a man. I even stumbled onto a note where a man says a romantic goodbye to another man. It's forced in everywhere in the game.

Slippery slopes only happen when people don't have well defined principals. In most cases I use "does this cause me any meaningful harm," and "Is this going to make other's happy?" both must be satisfied or the foot drops. It does me no harm to have one additional option at character creation or to have an NPC with non-traditional pronouns. Even an entire optional questline about how they're not heteronormative is fine. If I run into them and they seem like an interesting person, I do the quest, if not I don't. If the quest is mandatory I'll do it begrudgingly, just like I would with any other NPC I don't like. You're not going to like every character you interact with any more than you would every real person. I am also really tired of old white guys as villains, unfun preachy games, and forced boring female protagonists; and I'm tired of disingenuous diversity pandering; but I enjoy when an artist puts someone in the role because they felt that it somehow made the artistic-work better, regardless of that person's identity. Everyone looks for escapism in videogames, including trans folk, and I'm sure the pronoun option not being there harms that for them. In Starfield you make your own character, and for many people they're looking to make their ideal selves, its part of the fantasy. Getting mad about the pronoun options and body types doesn't help anyone, it just makes you look unempathetic, and in my opinion its getting mad at the wrong thing, like getting mad that the person who was pushed into you. Embracing pronoun changes took me a long time, and I had put myself at risk seeking out trans people connected to my social circles, to ask questions I felt uncomfortable asking. I needed to understand the reality of what was being asked, and why before I felt I could stand firm. The conclusion I came to is that your sex is a matter of birth (though it isn't scientifically binary), but identity isn't. Gender is a social construct, its a collection of ideas about what masculinity and femininity are and what expectations we place on them. Masculinity and Femininity are a continuous spectrum, and everyone sits somewhere in that spectrum both in physical presentation, and personality. When someone asks you to use different pronouns for them, they are most often asking you to decouple your use of pronouns from their sex, and attach it to their gender identity instead; they're not asking you call a cow a duck, but rather to call the cow by its name. I find this to be a compelling request because its most often irrelevant to me what particular parts they have. If I neither intend to have sex nor form a romantic relationship with someone, their sexual organs are of no concern, and communicating what they are every time I refer to the person actually seems an odd thing to do. I have found 3 kinds of trans people: Social Construct Objectionists (SCOs), Body Dysphorics (BDs), and people who are Insane. SCOs do not feel like the ways that their personality/identity line up with expectations put on them by society due to their sex. SCOs choose new pronouns because they reject those expectations. In my experience SCOs tend to be far more forgiving about misgendering than gets portrayed. I've never once had a person in this category get upset with me for accidentally using the wrong pronoun, they are just asking that you do your best to respect who they are. Ironically I've had people with earned titles ("Dr." mostly) get more upset about using the wrong title. BDs suffer from a phenomena known as Gender Dysphoria. The short summary is that these people constantly feel uncomfortable in their own skin - often to an extreme degree, and that feeling can manifest through anxiety, depression, and a host of other things. The condition is medically recognized in the DSM-5, and is recognized as a psychological issue. Despite popular belief, psychological issues have real symptoms, and real impacts on those who have them. Unfortunately you also can't just "get over" psychological issues by knowing they're in your head. We don't have a sure-fire cure for this Dysphoria so treatment is highly individualized and expensive. The more well know treatments include Hormone Therapy, and Sexual reassignment surgery. Both treatments have a number of hoops and challenges to get. Hormone therapy requires a few visits with a psychiatrist spaced apart to ensure its not a temporary issue or fad. Surgery requires you to go through years of therapy, hormone treatments, and many many consultations with doctors before you can apply for surgery. Both treatments allow medical practitioners who have a limited understanding of your situation to stop the process at any time. Both long term hormone treatment and surgeries have irreversible effects on the body. Many insurance companies cover next to none of these processes or treatments. To get a potential cure a person will likely go deep into medical debt, and for some it still doesn't relieve the stress and dysphoria they've been fighting for years. Seeing no hope for future treatments, the wasted time, and crippling debt, many post-op trans people take their own lives. For BDs I've talked to using the wrong pronoun is very stressful because it can cause the dysphoria to resurface in that moment. Their descriptions of how they feel when this happens is very similar to how a Veteran friend has described their PTSD to me. Finally there are the small handful out there that people love to talk about like they're the dominant force. People who're basically just insane. Broadly there are two types of new pronouns: theoretical pronouns and xeno pronouns. Theoretical pronouns rise from people spitballing about how the disconnects between people and pronouns could be solved, they're not intended to be used in actuality, and are the equivalent of a thought experiment. Xeno pronouns are those like the fae associated pronouns you brought up. They're created mostly by sheltered 14-17 year-olds on tumbler and people who are very far from in touch with reality. The second group is literally insane and every single person I've met, trans and woke-feminist alike rejects them for a variety of reasons. All of the trans folk I've spoken with are happy with singular they, and the term non-binary as a solution for everything that isn't covered by the existing pronouns in use. People get alarmist about this shit because its easier to strawman than it is to engage in real conversation. Xeno pronouns is the soft target used guide people into not giving individual thought or understanding to the other two groups because its easier to lump them all together than it is to try to understand an experience so foreign to your own. Develop your principals, figure out why you might or might not accept things, and not just for identity politics, but for anything in life so that when society asks for a change, you can set aside bias and check it against your principals before responding. If you know what information you need or will change your mind you won't get caught up in nonsense when it comes knocking. Know exactly where your line is, and stand firmly on it. As for me, I'm a classical libertarian (not the political party, the ideology of many of the US's founders) with empathy as my guide anywhere that doesn't cover enough: You can do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't cause undue harm to others, or violate the things I believe to be someone's Rights. I believe its their right to ask for alternate pronouns, but its also your right to refuse, and its my right to decide how I feel about both; and if you refuse by throwing an angry fit on the internet to drive up your sub count without providing any value to the discussion that needs to be had about the issue, all while knowing that even if its not "current year" opinion, there are still people who will love it, then I'm going to dismiss you as a disgusting person with a lack of ethics in the same way that I regard the executives who capitalize on social justice for profit, companies who greenwash, and rich people who run hypocritical PR campaigns. I appreciate that you came back with a bit more conviction about how you feel, and tried to make it known. I appreciate that you did you best to describe what woke is, and what the "woke agenda" is, even though it turned into poetry about the feeling of the thing (I might describe Woke as "A collection of ideas which seek to elevate voices of minority groups above representative levels for the sake of virtue signaling and disrupting a perceived white hegemony and patriarchal hierarchy; regardless of the value of the elevated voices, if such a patriarchy exists, or if the disruption affects only bystanders") I really appreciate that you are willing to admit to some dishonesty about where you stand. The way you come off in this video feels a little like you're pushing it in that direction harder for the sake of appealing to your primary audience, but it still rings more true than your previous expression. Trying to balance in the middle when that's not where you have conviction is not convincing. Letting your true feelings be known may not win you the widest audience, but at least you know the people supporting you are supporting the real you, and you don't have to worry about a mask slipping. I may not sit at a crossroad of views that gets a lot of love, no one wins points for supporting trans people while also thinking that a lot of the woke shit is pretty unhealthy, but I don't express myself about these things to win affection. I'm angrier at Nexus Mods for banning mods that go against their orthodoxy than I am at Bethesda for allowing players to pick a "body type." I personally haven't encountered a situation where I've talked to or about someone who looked, moved, and talked like a man/woman and addressed them according to my perceptions and gotten flak for being wrong about it. I hope to never experience it, because I would hate to tread on eggshells and do 5 seconds of looking someone up and down like I'm doing a biological analysis before I talk to or about them lest I start talking with the gender/sex perceptions I've had that have served me fine in my 28 years of life. I want to say things can't be so absurd so as to reach the point that I can't call someone I clearly see as a man a man, or a woman a woman. I hope we don't reach that point. Because I don't think I can undo 28 years' worth of calling a dude a dude, and so forth. I'd hate to be genuine and devoid of malice when addressing people, and yet get screamed at because I got a pronoun wrong. I tried to reason with SyntheticMan about how he is ignoring the woke propaganda in Baldur’s Gate 3 just because of the “fantasy setting” and he called myself and others who watched his content regularly “delusional”. You illustrated the point I was trying to make. We can’t support any games promote any wokeness because if you give the left an inch then they take a mile. I respect you for coming out and admitting you tried to play both sides and you understand now that you don’t want to do that and compromise your morals. I hope in the future you continue to call out wokeness and leftist ideology and also recognize games and media that do not insert those things

Good take. I expect more drama from this though. I imagine some modder will remove the pronouns section and then I also expect that Nexus will ban them for it. I think something like this had happened before. This is a full-blown culture and information war and, unfortunately, there is no more middle ground.

My work gave us the option to put pronouns in our signatures and out of 125 or so employees, I've seen like 3 people with it. I live in a blue state and even some of the most hardcore Dems didn't even do it. Always drives me nuts as to why we cater to such a tiny minority of people.
