Staring Is a Form of Workplace Bullying. |  

We had a former workplace bully that used to lurk around the building after hours in the dark when some of us had to work late and we thought she had gone. Then she would suddenly appear at the end of the dark hallway quietly staring at us. She would turn around and walk away w/o saying a word. Creepy AF!

Hi Claire! I remember when I got cussed out in front of everyone and I tried to play it off. I then went to bathroom to cry and I was standing in front of the mirror weeping. Women that witnessed it were in bathroom and STARING at me in pity. And went to wash their hands . They stared then ignored me and began to talk to each other while ignoring me. It was sooo PAINFUL. Adults are truly disgusting and no matter how strange Michael Jackson was, I can see why he enjoyed the company of children over adults.

God, I know what you're talking about! I can feel their gaze in my periphery, watching my reaction, that turns to sizing me up. I worked at a place where a woman would walk the office every 10min & look to see what people were working on. She wasn't a supervisor & many didn't work in her dept. Karma took care of her when one day she was crying as her delinquent teen son was being sent out of state, to the other side of the country. That made me happy.

Thank you again for your articulate honesty. My mother was a bully who would scrutinize my every move. It became normalized even though somewhere in my consciousness I felt extremely unnerved, I knew on some level this was inappropriate but said and did nothing because I was afraid of her anger and retaliation.

I can't explain how relieved I am to stumble across someone who UNDERSTANDS what it is really like to be bullied. I have tried to explain these things to so many people and I'm always told that I'm making something out of nothing or that I'm too sensitive and need to ignore it instead of taking everything personally. I have been bullied my entire life starting with my mom and continuing with every job I've ever had (usually from women but occasionally from men as well). The level of anxiety and stress this causes me is so unfair because I have never done anything to warrant this hostile nature towards me when I'm just trying to exist. I can feel a room better than anyone I know and I know the moment I meet someone that they're a disturbed soul and the up and down look they give me is the first obvious sign that I have a new enemy. No one else seems to understand what this is like. I feel like everything you say is something I've been dying to hear and i finally have confirmation that this isn't just something I'm making up to be a victim. It's such a relief to know that other people get it, although it's depressing at the same time.
