It's actually kinda wierd. The motor controller should see overtemp/over reving way before anything bad happens. On a diy project where parameters for over rev (exploding rotor magnets) over amp (burning the coils) or over temp (de magnisation) isnt right the motor might get toast, but it shouldnt be able to happen on a stark, tesla etc.
