I just bought a Zero FX which is almost the same as a Stark. Really surprised he didn't know about them. They have been making electric dual sport bikes since 2012. The reason I purchased an electric dirt bike is bc I want to ride around my house and not bother my neighbors. I have 16 acres and all of my neighbors have a good bit of land. My neighbors all have dirt bikes and the noise is horrible. One of the neighbors kids got a dirt bike and I could hear him riding inside my house almost a mile away and over a hill. That is just too loud. When you make no noise people don't care what you are doing. When you are making a ton of noise you are going to attract a lot of negative attention. I like to ride early morning and even at night after dark. I ride between 9-10 pm right up next to other houses and no one even notices me. It is truly a dream come true. I also have 4 screaming kids and have to cut about 10 acres of grass on a mower. I get tired of the noise and inhaling gas. When I ride behind my neighbors with gas bikes the gas inhalation is horrible. I also have a 55mph electric scooter that I drive on a private road we share with the neighbors. As long as I don't make any noise they don't care. They aren't for everyone, but I can't say enough how much of an advantage being quiet is to people who don't have 200+ acres of property. Whatever gets more people on bikes, more people having fun and fewer people pissed off is a great thing in my book. Sooooo many haters though. Don't trash it till you try it is my only advice.

Best review I've seen, good work! I've just bought a E Mountain bike and its totally amazing how much fun it is, go for a ride, quick wash and charge the battery and your ready for another ride, none of the maintenance and running costs of my dirt bikes. I look at my E bike and then at my dirt bike and find myself going for an E bike ride as its much less hassle and cost, so I think the maintenance and running cost advantage will win people over in time. But like all things motorcycles you will only really be happy if you have a few bikes in the shed.

Seems like you’ll be able to adjust all your own settings. Sounds like they are going to offer a whole bunch of pre-sets. @@spirited1puppetmastered917 it can literally be translated to whatever time you get out of your stock 2 smoker tank. Ride the mainjet in sand? 45 minutes. Ride the pilot jet in single track? Several hours! The Freeride has a 3.88kwh battery, 2.5-ish hours (moving) 19-25 miles roughly for trail riding range. Running non-stop hill climbs, less. The Varg has 5.9(?)kwh 35% more capacity. You’re looking 33 miles at least. Based on Alta rider’s anecdotes, that’s plenty conservative! I know you’re looking for a real test, but it’s relative to the rider. In Pro MX they have to top off their tanks on the gate after a parade lap or risk running out of gas. C-class hero can ride his all day. So how long does the gas last? This is the only electric bike I've ever been excited about. It appears to have everything. But after watching a vid of some guy weighing it right out of the box at 260lbs (118kg), I'm not that excited. Yes I am an electric fan just cause it's just a better technology than combustion on many fronts. It's getting there. 260lbs is not impressive at all though. Give it time.

The battery lasts longer than the chassis. My KTM battery is rated to loose only 10% capacity after 850 cycles. Each cycle lasts 1.5 hours roughly. Chassis is rated for about 500 hours. The chassis will be dead long before the battery. It’s going to bring the cost of the sport down… unless tires, chains and sprockets get more expensive. In 5 years you’ll have plenty of used ones on the market that every vet rider and buddy is willing to lose $4k on to upgrade to Varg Model 3 or Honda E model that he doesn’t need.
@michaelpatrick6984

The battery on my Zero FX retains over 80% capacity after 200,000+ miles. It also has a 5 year warranty. When it does die though it costs about 6k for the battery + installation. It does require much less maintenance though and no fuel, so that makes up for it a bit. If you ride it for 200k miles.... I think you will get your money back over time, but yea much higher initially.

We race 90-120 minute hare scrambles. The electric bikes would have too many disadvantages & advantages. It also can't last for an all day trail ride. I don't see how it would be fair to compete in a lites class if you can adjust it to 450F power.

@@paulhope3401 nope. Not going to have a top speed disadvantage and they settle in the bumps better. 450 really doesn't have a chance against these things except maybe in sand. That could be the one place (at least until they have a clutch like device). Clutches have advantages there.

@@JohnHowerton137It was a slightly educated guess but I'm still very much a guess from myself... but if you know that for a fact then I doff my hat. Coming from a RC background I'm going by the power/torque curves of brushless motors... max torque from 0rpm but then the power falls off relatively linearly as rpm increases... my Surron also has this characteristic.... you also see it in the EV car world with Teslas outperforming supercars initially but in the final third of their speed envelope... the Supercars close the gap then come back past. Comparing it with a 4 stroke was not the best comparison... a 2 stroker of the same power output might be a better one?
@JohnHowerton137
@JohnHowerton137 Год назад
@@paulhope3401 in something like desert racing you're not wrong at all, but lower speeds of MX and this bike being specifically designed for that... not an issue. If the Tesla was geared for top end, it would still win. My Freeride goes flat as hell on top too, but not designed/geared for flat out riding or tracks. Not unlike your Surron, anything under 40mph or within it's design parameters like MTB or single track, even these far lower tech bikes can lay down hard to catch pace. But you already know that. If you watch all the Varg videos out there, you'll see every rider was faster on the Varg vs their preferred 450 and talked about petrol being slow even though most everyone riding was in the 54hp range. I know thats not really what the OG poster was asking, but it's relevant. Your avg dude on a Varg or even a Alta or Freeride can outdrag the harder to control 450. I actually have a short displaying this. I got the jump on a 80yd(?) start every time. Eli or Chase is blowing me away, but not the local yokal. Hopefully Josh Hill can be on one for Straight Rhythm or something and show it off. Crank the power, go like 7" deep into the holeshot device and be a missile off that grate 🤣 Tortelli is supposed to be racing an Italian series or something on it too, so I'm sure he'll get to display the awesomeness there.
