WOW!

I've always, ALWAYS wanted to witness a proper Starling murmuration! I must admit to being quite envious Mike to be honest!

Thanks for this, Mike. I've always been thrilled at seeing starling murmurations, but I've never seen one this large. The floor under those pine trees is very nasty. You know there is going to be a real concern about histoplasmosis in the area of those fur trees now. It can be very debilitating and last for a long time. We had a problem with hundreds of thousands of starlings, grackles, redwing blackbirds and brown-headed cowbirds flocking together to roost in a grove of pine trees near here. There were no murmurations but they created a "river" of birds about 20 miles long coming out of the Kentucky farmland headed for the roost. The roost was near living quarters on a military reservation and created a very real health concern for the families living there. They tried to disperse the birds by noise makers, firing loud training ordnance "bombs" with aerial bursts and several over methods to no avail. Then one very cold night the roosts got sprayed with a soapy water solution from helicopters. The soap took the oil out of the birds' feathers and froze to death over 100,000 of them. The birds then had to be picked up by men wearing hazmat suits and disposed of by burying in the municipal dump. That dispersed the birds for the rest of the winter and before the next season the pine trees sold to a timber company and cut down. We have never had a problem like that again. We still don't know what attracted them to that particular roost.

One of my favourite things to watch, starling murmurations. Thanks for these videos. I've seen a good few over the last fifteen years or so. The biggest was at Gretna Green. At one point they covered a stretch of the nearby motorway that looked to be well over half a mile long!! I must try again now I have better video facilities.❤

Very nice Mike as always.. can you do an indept video on the gh9ii when doing video like you did in the OM-1 for stills. I mean your settings doing video. I am thinking getting a gh9 I for video as well. Are you doing difficult color grading in post or do you get great results already with 4K slomotionout of camera? Greetings Ron
