A JAZZ AGE high! Amazing rare talkie clip shows a chorus dancing to Gus Arnheim's band in a smart Art Deco roof top club! Whoopee! An exhilerating by-product of the 1929 skyscraper building craze in America! Imagine how this novel sky high caberet fad would have blossomed had not the stock market crashed...The Ziegfeld Roof Garden shows atop the Amsterdam Theater in New York may have started it. All through 1929, The worlds tallest building was being erected. The handsomely ornate Chrysler building. Begun in 1928 and finished in 1930.

The film needs to be digitally remastered and colorized.

I believe the number is from "Jazz Heaven" (1929-RKO). The song is definintely "Come in the Water" from "Tanned Legs" (1929-RKO) but the number isn't from that movie. The dialogue scenes aren't from the same movie as the number, I don't think...

Lot of information in the description, except what film this was taken from. Sloppy.

If you really love old movies, you'd Already KNOW what movie this was from! Almost all the commenters know. This footage is amazing for an early talkie. The costumes, the sets, looks like Jazz heaven to me!

Yes the scene is form Jazz Heaven. The music in that film is rather humdrum however so somewhere along the way someone decide to use better music from another film. the bandleader and band shown here is NOT Gus Arnheim's!

Think JAZZ HEAVEN was extant in the 1970s as remember it being in a British 16mm catalogue when I was involved in a film society. May not have been good copy as recall it was cheap to hire. Extract here looks very good but comments suggest it's a bit of a patchwork using other films / music. Looks worth checking out! Robert Smith
