Hi Glass Guy- If we're concealing all edges of an oversized mirror with a J bar, would it make much difference visually to use starphire glass instead of regular?
The Glass company I am having make my shower enclosure charges almost DOUBLE for Starphire glass over “traditional” glass, in the same 3/8” thickness. 1.68 times as much money for the Starphire to be exact. The quote for a 62”x77.75” side panel, 28”x77.5” door and 9.75”x77.75” return panel based on square footage is $2314 for Traditional 3/8” versus $3892 for Starphire.. Am I being ripped off, or does Starphire really cost 1.68x as much?!
@@jmpage2 I called another local glass company. They quoted me $3550 for the same job and offered 15% off for a total of $3017.50. I showed the first company this quote and asked if they could come down at all on their price. Instead the just offered to refund my deposit.. So I’m going with the 2nd company. The second company is bigger and buys more Starfire glass, so I think they can get a better price on it. I spoke to a guy in the glass business, who is located in Chicago, and he says the prices in Phoenix, where I am located, are high for Starfire compared to Chicago, based on both my quotes..
@@Komet163B - Hey, I'm also in Phoenix and just got a quote for Starfire that was 1k more than clear. Which company did you end up going with? I'd like to get a quote from them. Thx!
Real Vibes I assume your talking about a fish tank. Starfire tanks are not typically cheep. Try to find one someone is getting rid of. Go to your local fish store they may have leads they can connect you with.
Is it safe to make an aquarium with it in strength wise compared with normal glass or we need to increase the thickness to have same strength that of normal glass
Thank you Banerji Babu aquariums are a whole different thing. Many aquariums are made from acrylic now not glass. However glass aquariums are available I believe most are made with 3/8” glass and I believe the bottoms are tempered for added strength. But I’m not a pro on fish tanks.
Im here for the fish tank aspect too. I want to get into tank building. There is really no strength difference in low - iron compared to clear if you were wondering these 6 months later. Clear glass just needs to keep from appearing green on the face and its good enough for an aquarium anyway.
MD Iftikhar Shafi Ifti the two types of glass in the video are clear glass(green tint) and starphire (reduced tint due to iron reduction also called low iron glass)
+Happy Days clear glass is green tint starphire is more clear. This is just to help people understand the difference for when there purchasing glass. If you can’t understand the difference with this example a larger view wouldn’t help you.
