I played the trombone for 9 years in school and got a scholarship to college, and I have NEVER heard anything like that. That was more than awesome. It was TOTALLY OUTSTANDING.
WhatIt'sWorth Cool your jets there buddy, there are fewer women than men who play trombone, so if their being a woman is part of their trombone identity let it be. Mentioning that you're a woman who plays trombone is not the reason that sexism exists, that's as ludicrous as Bones Apart are fantastic.
Being proud of your identity is not the same as pointing out someone who shares your identity. Angelina did not point out that they were female trombonists, she mentioned that she was proud to be one. I'm proud to play the trombone because of the many wonderful things the instrument can do, and because of the fantastic professionals who are our role models. I appreciate that I was perhaps a little condescending to you in my last reply, and I'm sorry for that. Angelina is not the reason sexism exists, nor is she perpetuating it. She simply feels well represented by Bones Apart and looks to them as role models.
I played trombone for years...and I couldn't begin to dream of playing the piccolo part. They make it look so effortless. One in a million trombone players could play those trills. And I love the sound of that bass too. This is AMAZING!!
Part time horn player and forever bandgeek here. Great job on our national march. Your playing really communicated the fun you must have been having with this. By the way, could you please identify the quartet left to right in this video. They did a fantastic job. Bass bone is on the left, correct? Cheers and go trombones. You all deserve a round of beers for this one :)
As much as i love how majestically 1st bone is playing, i LOOOOVE how 4th is playing those beyond rounded and clear pedal tones. As a bass bone and tuba player, i very much admire and appreciate this. And not just 4th, or 1st, but everything/everyone in its entirety.
These ladies are SO AWESOME!!! This same ensemble, BonesApart, played this when they paid a visit to my college!! As a trombone player, I was BLOWN AWAY!! Those lip trills that she pulled off are SO HARD to do. I LOVE THESE LADIES!!!
holy crap... I'm a trombone player of 7 years and that is just amazing... I love the way they made it sound like a big band but with only 4 trombones the parts were all handled amazingly ya there may have been a couple misses but even the pros miss this is just amazing and they all look young I mean that's talent you want to go see in real life
My middle school band teacher showed this to me waaaaaay back in the day when this was a brand new video and it blew my little alto saxophone mind. Now 14 years later it’s still blowing my mind! I completely forgot about it and searched for half an hour before I remembered what song it was.
I myself am a trombone player. I admire those girls so much. All four of them are so talented. I wish I could just hang out with them and have a little trombone jam session!
my wife and I are both musicians, she plays trombone and I play french horn (and a little trombone, not my main instrument). we saw bones apart when they came to the USA a few years ago, doing a trombone clinic-- FULL OF AWESOME.
Some of the best sounding and matching trombones I have heard! The ensemble sounds perfect together and as always, I must say the bassbone knows what she's doing! I am in awe...great job!
What a great performance. These girls play with balls......that is not sexist or rude. Every trombone player alive knows that this a great compliment. Way to go girls.
Still the best! After the first player finishes playing the picolo part, the audience pauses before spontaneously applauding. I believe this is because they absolutely can't believe what they had just heard, and had to catch their breath for a second.
A very good example of the British brass tradition mostly due to the lively brass band movement there. England always had a reputation of producing outstanding brass players. As far as the piece goes: I've been in a number of concerts where the piccolo solo has been traded around; trumpets, saxes, tuba (almost mandatory!) etc. & even had a fling at it myself on tenor & bass trombones.
They're clapping for the piccolo solo, played by the lead trombone. Get off the high horse, if music moves people, then no reason they shouldn't respond!!
i know ive listened to this a million times. and yes that first trombone part is so amazing. but then so is everything else. just listen to the bass bone. my god does that have amazing power next to it. i can get enough of this recording ha
What a fine example of trombone playing and trombone musicianship; they give the instrument back its pride and its rightful place. My ex-wife would be proud!
Wow!! what can I say? I played the trombone for 7 years and barely picked it up since 1981 when I graduated. That was absolutely amazing!! I can't even begin to try to triple tongue like that. Post more please!!!
Fantastic!! so good to see gals playing this instrument! way back in my day in the 6o's very few girls played trombone, but I did! = in the junior high school band. I loved it!
great tune. all of the trombones in harmony like that made it sound incredible. i also play the ol' bone but ive just started. i hope i get as good as you lot. hooray!
