Mickey has got to be the most underrated vocalist ever. He never got the credit that Steve Perry did but I'd put him right up there with Steve any day. Mickey Thomas was, and still is, one of the most incredible vocalists of all time. Keep rockin' Mickey!
THIS AWESOME PERFORMANCE WAS PHENOMENAL!!! He was one of the greatest singers ever. Also the chick sounds like Grace Slick, sooooo good So glad I found this treasure!!!!
Sounds just as good all these years later. As earlier mentioned, Mickey is definitely one of the most under rated singers from the 70's and 80's and IS STILL ON FIRE.A 70's something year old will give a lot of the newcomers a real run for their money. Singing AND looking incredible.
Love Mickey Thomas! Loved the female singer that came to the Historical Everett Event Center...that was an incredible show. The harmonies were ridiculous! Wishing she was in this video. She was an excellent fit for the band. You've still got it Mickey! ❤
You got some good video of him I saw him last night 5-28-22 opening for Night ranger it was a good show. I’m impressed with his voice all these years later
I really hate his bearded-looks but He Still Has One of Pop/Rock's Best Voices! This Man is Truely Blessed.. Respect! And i dig this guitarist 100% aswell!
Lead guitarist just carves up Elvin's original guitar solo on "Fooled Around...". Elvin's playing had feeling and soul...this guy sounds like someone at Guitar Center noodling around.
I saw the Tulsa concert last week. It wasn't bad. I was surprised. I do wish the differences could be overcome and get all remaining original members together. Now that being said Mickey did come till the 5th album I think.
Thats about as much Starship as i am....Have seen several different versions of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, KBC Band close to 40 times....Only time i didnt care that much for the Jefferson Starship shows was when Micky Thomas was in the band...Thought he was much better with the Elvin Bishop Band....
@@debradennis9545 Stephanie was authentically engaging, sexy and had great stage presence. The two interviews I have seen with Steph, does not make Mickey look ethical. Fan of his voice, but character is now questionable.
I no longer support Mickey Thomas after what he did to Stephanie Calvert who'd sung co lead vocals for 15 years with the band. He fired her because she didn't get the jab...
They tour the US and Mickey is 73 Zippy, Covid kills 73 year olds quick, it was irresponsible of Calvert to not "get the jab", which has already saved hundreds of thousands of lives, most were elderly like Mickey. Do your homework, then lip off.
He's 72 and didn't want to take unnecessary chances with his health. If she was adamant she didn't want to be vaccinated, she left him with no alternative! I support his decision 100 percent! 😎👌
Mickey sounded great, as always! That said, he does need to do something about his appearance. Yes it sounds superficial, and I know he is old. However, just like other performers in the entertainment industry, you cannot let your appearance go that far south. Ditch the grey beard, and get a little coloring for the hair and mustache.
@@matthewkissau981 I hear what you are saying, and as a guy who only is clean and combs my hair (i.e. not worried about my appearance), we are in agreement. I will also go so far as to say looks are irrelevant to musical talent, as we cannot see with our ears, only enjoy the talent one possesses. A quick example was Mama Kass who was no looker, but had pipes rivaled by few. That said, many of the classic rock groups are clearly greying, but they present a younger image. I really don't care if members of the Rolling Stones or Aerosmith are grey or not, but for potential new fans, it is harder to relate to someone who looks like your grandfather, singing about having sex with young girls. For example, one of my sons girlfriends seemed to like the Eagles music, but one day a newer video of them looking their current age, caused her to exclaim, "oooh gross". I asked why, as we all get older. Her reply was she thought based on the lyrics of their songs she liked, "they were young, not pervs". Certainly that was an ignorant and juvenile comment, but performers who wish to remain relevant today (with the newer generation), cannot ignore reality.
@@unicornyankee I agree with you. Read my reply to Kissau for a better understanding of my perspective. Just a quick addition. While it is not fair, women are judged more harshly by the public "who show their age" than those who seek eternal youth, vs. greying older guys. Still, just imagine if a "heartthrob" who looked his age (without makeup/hair coloring), attempted to star in a movie with a young woman half his age. Roger Moore who was a heartthrob to many women, gave up playing James Bond despite efforts for him to do another film, after "A View To A Kill". He said it was absurd to have women more than half his age being portrayed as his lovers. Anyway, as a hetero guy, I do not care what Thomas looks like, I only live to hear his music. That does not mean I ignore reality for the life of a performer.
While I was not happy with it either, not everyone can imitate Elvin Bishop. Mickey sounded great. That said he does need to do something about his appearance. Yes I know he is old, but just like other performers in the entertainment industry, you cannot let your appearance go that far south. John Roth is a phenomenal guitar player. Every player has their off days, but I didn't hear anything off here. You're also hearing a cell phone recording and it's not going to capture a decent sound mix.
This new girl doesn't have the stage presence of Stephanie Calvert. Her voice is weaker & she is unnatural in the way she moves across the stage. Very diappointed in Mickey's treatment of his bandmates.
The new girl is cool BUT it is very disappointing that Mickey fired Stephanie Calvert so coldly, cruely and so unprofessionally.. i'm still a fan of the band but it is very disappointing that after 15 years of loyal service Stephanie was fired in the manner that she was. She did not deserve that and she deserved better from "Mickey" John Micheal Thomas.
Agreed. I view through a different lens now. Stephanie was the bomb, and she was totally correct on her stance. Time will vindicate. Actually, it already has, for those fellow fearless excavators out there.

@@LARRYCAL Hey Larry, check out both the interviews with Play That Rock N Roll and Real Music Observer to at least get her side of the story. If a fair representation, it's a disappointing way to treat a band member, who was talented, very easy on the eyes and truly loved interacting with the audience.
Maybe she was cold, cruel and unprofessional in refusing to get vaccinated when working with a 72 year old, an age where susceptibility to Covid is highest. Just sayin!
