Looks like the time is nearly up for Flat Earthers, firmament believers, Moon landing deniers and similar. They have had a field day on social media up to now but when SpaceX manages to make space travel commonplace, they simply won’t have a conspiracy leg to stand on.
@@QuickMadeUpName No, they can't land the booster without catching it in the tower arms. The Test flight a few months ago landed it in the water at an exact spot to demonstrate they could exact with where it landed.
@@aldunlop4622 ah ok, thanks for the info. Why couldn't they just have wings and fly it back to the ground? Sorry, I really don't understand these things, but i do find them really interesting.
This is the opposite of destruction. The disbelief cuts to the core. This is anti hate, the ignition of the human spirit, what we all need in this world. Beautiful.
Imagine if during Apollo - a Saturn 5's first and second stage were melded into one - with more powerful engines, and that entire length of rocket booster was brought back and landed back at Cape Canaveral! THAT - is the equivalent of what we just saw today! UNBELIEVABLE!!! INCREDIBLE!!! WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!!!
Same here. I remember watching Mercury flights from Port Canaveral and lived most of my life in Central Florida watching others including Challenger and Columbia. This is a huge achievement!
Amazing footage. We behaved just the same infront of the TV here in Germany. I envy you guys. When the first manned Starship starts in a couple of years i will fly my old man to America to go see it at the cape.
It won't be at The Cape if I'm not mistaken. It'll be here at this launching pad in Starbase TX aka Boca Chica in Brownsville TX. But really hope you get to experience this first hand ! The sonic booms in person are an out of body experience!!
Yes! Other channels gave you a slight sense of rate of descent but this angle was insane! I already knew they succeeded but when I saw how fast that rocket was coming in I thought "No Way!"
I know right, and the whole situation. About 70 meters tall, weights over 200 tons, going from mach 1 to 7km/h in about 1km with the accuracy of +- 2m... No words left
From Denmark: I gotta' take my son to experience this. It is incredible on video... just incredible... but I want him (and me) to experience it for real !
100%. Har selv været i Orlando og set deres falcon 9 launch. En af de fedeste oplevelser nogensinde! At se en landing og endda en landing med starship må være helt utroligt.
That's great! Just double check the weather for the launch you go to. The fourth launch we couldn't see anything. But the fifth launch was perfect weather! Definitely worth it with perfect weather.
I felt the same way watching it. It was beyond belief and I am very excited for the future of mankind. The only thing that makes me sad, I will likely not be around to see humanity make it to mars. I am excited for the young people, the future is looking bright in space advancements.
I don't know this is truely an amazing catch, they aren't however going to nail this 100% of the time and having this thing coming at the tower and complex like a damn ICBM is kind of terrifying.
@@GetFitEatRight Good point. But as with everything else that they're doing moving forward, there's always a backup plan. If you look closely at the trajectory of the booster, it's not headed directly to the tower, it has some time to check if a catch is possible, otherwise, an explosion a bit further from the tower (hopefully) will be seen.
i tried searching for "Starship Flight 5 Live Reaction" for videos like these, i got nothing, only videos from days ago, so im so happy this was in my recommended list
Thank you so much for this comment! 😇😁 What you expressed was my goal. I wanted to keep my setup simple... crowd cam and wide view of the pad. The gear I used was nothing fancy at all. My crowd cam was literally an old Hero 6 GoPro, camera facing the pad was a Sony ZV-10 I use to film some of my videos from home.
Hello from France, incredible video, really lucky that you were able to see this great moment, I would have loved to be there, to see this in real life must be so special
Awesome video! Thanks for keeping the camera stationary. It gives a much better impression of heights, speeds, etc. and there's no shaky, blurry image. Amazing sound too! I wish I can experience those sonic booms for the landing some day.
I watched a SpaceX F9 launch at KSC in 2017. It was just a Falcon 9 but man I had goosebumps and tears in my eyes. The flame was so bright. I can only imagine how freaking amazing this must have been for you guys. I visited Boca Chica / Starbase in august 2019 with my wife and we had to leave one day before the first hopper flight. Can't wait to go there again and watch the starships launch for mars. Thanks for the vid. Greetings from Germany ✌🏻
If the booster hadn't had some unexpected fires erupt on its surface, it would have looked like the simulation. Major kudos to the engineering team that made this wild-assed dream work.
it seems like those fires were probably just venting gas that caught on fire, not something damaged, although we have to wait for confirmation on that.
Brings back memories of me and a couple of my buddies sitting on the road shoulder of US 1 outside of Titusville, Florida, watching when the shuttle Columbia made the very first flight. Think that was back in 1981 when I was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama. I can almost feel the level of emotion from these very lucky witnesses to history.
@marklupus I saw the shuttle ONCE, as it overflew Calgary Alberta. Returning from space, it was a glowing arrowhead, far, far above. I didn't hear the sonic boom until about 2 minutes laterwhile still walking home from the dark area I went to watch.
From Austria: ❤ the best Video! You move with it when it is coming down! And I could not believe what my eyes made me see! Thank you for sharing it on you tube!🎉😂
We've all seen the video of SpaceX poking fun at themselves and their initial inability to land Falcon 9. Ever since this plan was announced, everyone has been expecting that video about Super Heavy. We all assumed OLIT/OLM-2 would have to be completed before they attempted a catch because they were certainly going to lose OLM-1 in this attempt. But then. The landing burn went. And then, it hovered. And then, it gimbaled and lined up. And then, it slowly started settling down. The chopsticks closed. The three remaining raptors shut down....and there was a gap between the bottom of the rocket at the OLM. There was no explosion. There was no fire. There was no mistake. There was just them nailing this the first time. We may very well still get a "How to not land a heavy booster" video...but it doesn't start today. It doesn't start with the first attempt. Great job, SpaceX.
Wish I had been able to drive down to South Padre Island to see this in person. But old age stops me. This was awesome to watch, though, even on RU-vid! I love that young man's reaction of "What? What?". Elon Musk has inspired a whole new generation of space explorers and engineers. Kudos, Musk! Congratulations to all involved at Space X with this awesome achievement! Great angle on that video of the rocket coming in; showed the true speed of descent. I've watched this over and over on various channels. It keeps blowing my mind!
Wow! That’s an awesome capture! I watched in awe on line, so can only imagine how amazing that catch must have been in RL. Wow! Wow! Wow! Thanks for posting.
Thanks Donald! It was a little like being there in person! Great to see and hear just regular folks as they're watching history take place before their very eyes! What a special moment it must have been! It was great watching it on my big screen TV at home too!
I can't get over when it comes into frame on the right BARRELING towards earth, just to light the engines last second and scoot its way softly over to the tower. Unbelievable. Just absolutely incredible.
I was watching it live on RU-vid and couldn't belive it, can't imagine the feeling of being there and seeing it with your own eyes, the sonic boom was quite strong as well.
Important history was being recorded here. Not one single person watching, whether live or online, knew how successful flight test five was going to be. The emotions seen is as real as possible. Well done to the people who recorded and shared this video with the world and a huge congratulations to SpaceX and Elon Musk!
The way the sonic booms reached you just as the booster lazily settled into Mechazilla’s arms as if it’s been doing this for years played in my head like: Boom boom, mfer. The future isn’t knocking, it’s breaking down the door.
when booster first appeared in frame it was still travelling at around 1350 km/h, 10 seconds later it was approaching landing tower at below 200 km/h... just all of this was beyond insane. the ridiculous approach trajectory, the sonic boom visibly travelling through the ascent exhaust clowd, the engines gimballing like crazy before the perfect catch... omfg.
This is what tons of "fuck-you money" and true innovative spirit can accomplish - the REAL commercialization of space travel - 200 tons into orbit at will - simply phenomenal.
Awesome footage !! It was pretty cool seeing the shock waves in the exhaust plume that hadnt even completely dissipated yet. Now thats a once in a life time experience to see it done the first time! :)
