You just reminded me of Dave Brubeck’s Unsquare Dance, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_yExwkQYcp0.html. It’s cool. I love all the variations in the percussion! In this one, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lbdEzRfbeH4.html, you can hear the drummer at the end kind of laughing saying “Yeah”, being glad to have gotten through it. 🙂
You'll find this odd time signature, and many others like it, in most of Animusic's discography. Resonant Chamber, Drum Machine, Gyro Drums, Cathedral Pictures, just to name a few!
I like the videos, but I’ll have to pay closer attention to the time signatures (I’m literate, sort of, but not particularly adept - it doesn’t come naturally to me 🙂).
This'll always be a classic. I don't know if it's the unusual time signature, the robo-sunglasses, the fact that redbot's just jiving in the background, or the fact that apparently even robots can't have a percussion section without a cowbell. Simply incredible
@@maxtherealmtc3421 yeah, that's why that spaceship is making sick music... In space... (If you didn't know, I was making a reference to the Alien franchise)
That would actually be worth exploring simply from a technical perspective, to actually have every instrument in the animation produce its sound at a specific point in a 3D space and have it sound different from different angles. Maybe in Animusic 3 fingers crossed?
Watch as someone makes an AI program that can create the 3D model from the video and then write the computer code to create the whole set and MIDI linkage- :exploding_head:
God I remember watching these as a pre-teen! It makes me happy to see other people getting to experience this for the first time or for the sake of nostalgia.
Animusic was a huge part of my childhood and we don’t have a DVD player anymore, so I’m very happy to find these masterpieces on RU-vid. Who else watching in 2023?
Love the bit where Red and the "harpist" have their little jam session in unison for a second, always been my favorite part. It's like the red one was celebrating beating the blue one up there
Animusic, especially with the slightly more recognizable individual instrumentalists work because all of them have been given very distinct and subtle flavors of personality to their animation. Something that was most certainly deliberately done. Blue is the chill experienced one, with only his continual bobbing. Red is the vibiest hypeman with slightly more exaggerated bobbing and ofc, his arms. The twins seem like they're swagging with no-look hits on the percussion. The "harpist" is focused with his head-banging to the melody. It's all purposeful and well executed personality, still fucking love it in 2023.
starship groove is such a heavy hitter. couldnt have been a cooler way to bring the project back. mark my words if i ever win the lottery im fully funding animusic 3. i understand there was the kickstarter debacle, but man id just give wayne lyttle whatever he needed to get 3 done
For the longest time, I thought that the pillars of light on the sides of the two keyboards had to be some kinda instrument that I couldn't hear. They are instruments - they're metronomes, playing to keep the rhythm of the song, which is in 7/4 time.
Beyond all the great little details everyone else has mentioned, I just noticed that there are visible scratches and scrapes on the platform from where Red and Blue have been rolling around. Incredible.
“Sir, we have found a direct signal from an object of Deep Space Origin” “Patch it through, Officer.” (This thing plays) “My god” “What is it” “So remember in like elementary school when the music teacher needed something to pass time with and had an old dvd player?”
I never noticed that at 0:11 you can see one of the players still under the stage behind the drummers just jamming to the music waiting to go on stage!
what make this look so great isnt just the high resolution or the high polygon count but the little details of the textures like how there are wear marks from where the robots go or just the textures on the robots themselves. its hard to belive this was made by 2 people over 10 years ago.
This brings back memories. My dad was really into this shit in like 2006 and he bought the DVD it was all on. We watched it constantly. Seeing this just makes me want a grilled cheese lmao.
I may be only 11 years old, but I still have nostalgic memories of my parents showing me animusic when I was five. I always though it was creepy and real.
i watched both animusic dvds nonstop as a kid so this brings back an insane amount of nostalgia. also did anyone else always think the red robot is a girl? or is it just me
Me as a musician is like: these time sigs are weird. 7/4, some 6/4 thrown in every now and again. Somehow, Animusic was able to create a song that feels like it can rock and is in seven.
an interesting detail that I just noticed is the scuff marks on the deck from the two moving robots, this implies that these guys have been doing this for a while now. every time I rewatch animusic i see some new small detail
If there's any way you could make these into VR experiences that would be incredible. Not sure how hard it is to convert to a real time render engine but it would be well worth it
