This 1987 smash went all the way to #1 and features the legendary Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," "Somebody To Love," etc .) and one of the greatest male rock vocalists ever in Mickey Thomas (Jefferson Starship's "Jane," Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around And Fell In Love," etc.). With two vocalists of their caliber it's no surprise that this catchy power ballad went straight to the top back in the day. Nice reaction Empress -- this one should be the official Empress+Pressure theme song! 😁💯
*Lara/Empress* You called it,Lara..Yep,to Empress...THIS IS from the Movie`s sountrack....I LOVE the HOPE and Positivity that comes from this,Empress.... It was a GREAT return to The music Industry, for this group!!!
***STARSHIP TRIVIA TIME!!*** ....don't STOP Empress, now.....(4:33) .... - ....This Band has a looooooong history, so I'll shorten it, for Empress; they were originally Jefferson Airplane (a 60's Band), went thru changes, became Jefferson Starship ( a 70's Soft Rock Band), then Starship, an 80's 'hit Machine' Top 40 / Pop band...then, the DRAMA.... - .... *Grace Slick* (the Woman in the Group 2:14) was sick-sick-SICK of the syrupy-sweet Pop stuff the Group was now doing, & wanted out....she agreed to do this tune (originally meant as a Solo for Mickey Thomas), and was gonna bow out (of the Group), after the single.... - ....the tune was recorded for the 1987 Kim Cattrall flick, "Mannequin" (where a Guy falls in love with a Department store mannequin, who comes to life, at night); the Song hit #1 Pop, and Grace became the OLDEST Woman to hit #1 on the Pop charts (at 47, at the time).... - ....now, Starship had to record a new LP, go on Tour, promote the record, and Grace went, *".....ENOUGH!"* ...and left the group Feb., 1988 .... I'll give charts, later.....
@@EmpressReacts...nothing 'good' was happening...for GRACE; Starship became '..The Micky Thomas Show..' and Grace wasn't about Top 40 goodness, she was about *ROCK* .... ...And, Mickey let ev-ery-One KNOW he 'was' Starship....he got such a big head, that it got out YEARS later, that he got beat up....by his OWN Band member! ...not 'good'.....
There was this movie in the late 80s early 90s era called Mannequin that this was the song from. It was definitely one of the movies to ever come out. This song was probably the strongest thing from it and that's kinda saying something.
Many considered this their sell-out record (this and "We Built This City")... Jefferson Starship was considered one of the late 60's/early 70s counterculture, hippie-trippy, anti-war bands (with songs like 'White Rabbit")... but it's good for some 1980's nostalgic cheese 🤣
I am so Happy to see how much you ❤ and related to this masterpiece Empress. I grew up with Grace Slick and Jefferson Airplane/Starship and I always loved their great songs especially her vocals. Thanks for another great catch on all the Key elements of this song it's why I love watching your reactions so much enjoying today what we heard so long ago and loving it just as much as we did the 1st time hearing them long ago Great Music is always fantastic No Matter when you you hear it wether it was long ago or today. God Bless you and your Family from your Dallas Texas Fan.🤠
Just as you find artists, they find you Empress. I love Madonna which is where I started watching you and now find I’m watching your reactions to more than just her. Shout out to the backs, we vibing and your beautiful daughter chattering in the background make your posts must see reads.
The duet consists of Grace Slick formerly of Jefferson Airplane and Mickey Thomas of Elvin Bishop who did the terrific vocal of Fooled Around and Fell in Love. Both are two of the greatest singers ever. You need to check out JANE, Mickey is the dominant singer vocals off the chart.
Mickey did a beautiful duet with Donna Summer called “Only the fools survive” .. a single From her 1987 album “all system go.. he’s got an amazing voice!!
I dig how you nail what the song's gonna be three seconds in 😂 You know your stuff. Respect. This is a LATE STAGE for this band. 60's hippie band gone commercial radio pop 20 years down the road. First they were JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, then JEFFERSON STARSHIP, then just STARSHIP. Mickey Thomas (the male singer) is kind of restrained in this song ... he can REALLY belt it out. Check out the song JANE. Late 70s Arena Rock at it's BEST.

Love '80s! Could you react to their songs "We built this city", "Miracles" & "Somebody to love"? "Somebody to love" was one of their songs from the '60s when they were known as Jefferson Airplane, which you previously reacted to their song "White rabbit"
Grace Slick (the woman singing in Starship), she hated this song and the last interview I remembered from the late 2000’s - she called this song in particular 🐴 💩. It did go #1 in 1987 which made her the oldest woman at 47 to achieve this record. Cher beat her record in 1999 at the age 52 when ‘Believe’ went #1. Fun fact: Cher held this record for decades until last year. Brenda Lee hit #1… with ‘Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree’ she was 79 to achieve this new record and beat Cher’s record. Brenda Lee first went to #1 in 1960, decades ago. I thought Madonna might’ve beat the record in the 2010’s but unfortunately not.
Grace Slick left Starship and retired from music not long after this song. She dismissed the last few Starship hits like this, We Built This City and Sara as commercial crap that she did strictly for the money.
“Sara” is the best song of those three and that’s basically Mickey’s solo song. Grace Slick on We Built This City and Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now were “embarrassing” hits for her, coming from the 1960’s type of sound.
Didn’t like their late 80s stuff except for “Sarah” which was pretty good. This one and especially “We Built This City“ were pretty bad, and very overplayed, imho… “Miracles” though, now that was a great song!
