Yeah! Team Tim's footage from the Artemis I launch were an order of magnitude better than NASA's own. They inherited their equipment from the 1960's Apollo missions, based on gear from the 1940's Pacific Fleet missions. Whereas Tim has harnessed the power of the InterNet and 21st century marketing - woohoo!

Holy crap, that pad cam is the stuff of nightmares with seeing a wall of darkness just coming towards you! The 8K tracked footage is also incredible.... but GOOD LORD. The sound with good in ears / headphones is something else. Absolutely immense thunderous power. You *must* try this with headphones if you’re not doing so, it’s unreal.

@@sidv4615 No it's not, not even close, although it is bigger than the smallest skyscraper, it is not the size of a huge one, a huge skyscraper would be somewhere around 300-500 meters, the starship has 120m of height

Water cooled steel place supposedly. Was planned from the start but not ready. We'll see if it's actually enough. Super heavy doesn't really need to start anyplace else than earth so its pad could do with some more advanced work and even a flame trench if they need to make one.

I was lucky enough to attend a shuttle launch at the press site. Got the tickets from someone that was one of the 113 selected to ride the shuttle. The sound was awesome. Later on, I lived on Merrit Island overlooking the Banana River and could watch every launch from my bedroom balcony.

Considering how much FOD there must've been, it's just amazing how steady the OTHER 24 engines were. I would like to point out that there was still thrust vectoring being done well into the spin, so the hydraulics were at least partially working. There was just probably too much off-axis thrust due to having four engines on the same side being out.

The 8K footage shows so much extra info of the cascading engine failures. It also clearly shows the bend in the booster and the inability to fully shut down leaking fuel and flames prior to detonation. Great stuff.

That bend may have been caused the booster upper LOX tank pressure dropping enough that it could buckle with all the side force on it.

it didn't really succeed - the pad was nearly destroyed, the rocket did not even get to sub orbit and the flip was not a success because it was an out of control tumble. This launch may have set back SpaceX Ship 2+ years

I have mixed feelings about it, it's incredible that they are pushing the boundaries, but it also seems they are having to re-learn some rudimentary stuff for no real reason I can see. this demonstrates the durability of the booster. That thing was on fire most of the way up, had multiple flare up and explosions in the engine area, a clear major LOX leak and it just keeps on climbing. What a wild ride that was. Well done Spacex!!

Every time I see more detailed videos of this launch, I become more impressed at how robust the design is. Those engines were being cooked by whatever (hydraulic fluid maybe?) was burning above them and yet they kept going and the booster held together too. No legacy rocket would have survived the first 12 seconds of the launch!

As it lifted from the pad and raised above the plumb, tears freely fell over my smiling cheeks. This was the first ship I had the privilege of working on. And seeing it fly was an event akin to the birth of my children. It's hard to put into words what it means to me after years of watching this thing grow as a supportive observer, and now as a part of the Starship program. Iam humbled by my his fortune and the opportunities granted to me. What an incredible tracking shot! You can clearly see some damage on the engine skirt, the engines slowly dying, and that some of the bells are completely gone. Later, you can see the FTS trying to do its job (first on Starship, a little later on the booster) and finally the two explosions, finally doing the FTS´ job. A great shot for technical analysis.

True! I remember hearing something while watching the launch that the starship was NOT attached to the booster and the thrust was what was holding them together?? if so why didnt they separate when the stack started tumbling.?

I think Max Q was a little later in the flight than expected this time. Certainly passed the aerodynamic load test. I wondered if stage separation would not occur if there was torque and/or thrust on the joint and that the off-center thrust was part of what kept it from separating. Amazing it performed as well as it did with the beating it took at liftoff.

@@BradiKal61 The Superheavy boosters never did shutdown, so even when doing loops Starship was still under positive G-force. Think of a wing walker on a biplane doing loops, just with higher G-force. (G-force on stack higher than any side forces)

That object caught my eye too. On the first viewing I though it looked almost like an engine bell but I don't think so after replacing that section a few times. I do think it is some kind of equipment and not a concrete chunk though since it looks like some kind of flexible line attached to the object. Stage 0 definitely needs some major improvements.

SpaceX won’t be launching much if they don’t change their approach considering they’re under FAA investigation and their launchpad is destroyed. We should have SpaceX not make such disasters to just test rockets

It wasn't a disaster - did anything outside of SpaceX get damaged, no. Its experimental rocketry, things aren't expected to work 1st time. Falcon 9 didn't and even blew up on the pad and now look at it.

@@theneonbop Stop pretending it was not! A failure doesn't imply the amount of devastation to the pad, other infrastructures and environment. Mostly NASA has done all the heavy lifting paving the way to space travel enabling the private sector to operate profitably and safely. This is not trial and error but bad decision driven by ego. The flight self-molested from the moment the engines fired, very little useful data will come out of this.

I was there on the beach at the tip of Padre when it launched. This video is closest I've seen to relaying the auditory experience of being there in person. Especially if you watch it with some really power subwoofers.

You sure you're seeing shockwaves and not just the flickering light of the engines? I would expect to see the dust clouds reacting to shockwaves but I can't see anything reverberating up through them

Aye, genuine shockwaves as the exhaust exits at supersonic speeds. You're essentially seeing dozens of sonic booms a second. With the high humidity it reminds me of the Beirut explosion on a smaller scale, just repeatedly. Those engines must've took a pounding no wonder a bunch of them failed

Some of the best footage of the multiple engine failures, how this rocket didn't fail at the launch pad is beyond me, it was tilting bad very yearly on after lift off

that tilt is on purpose, to not fall down directly on the launchpad in case it fails shortly after takeoff

Wind was blowing from the ocean and was pushing the rocket toward the tower it might be why it seemed an agressive tilt right of the bat as the rocket was fighting that push

The tilt was a deliberate gimbal and pre-programmed for the reason stated above - the SpaceX team noted that pre-launch. To protect the tower and clear the site in case of early RUD. Cheers.

Those sound reverberating waves are beautiful. Not sure if that's what they are called but they can be clearly seen emanating upwards right after engine light
