Gig work is the closest I've come to escaping wage slavery. I can work when I want, I earn more money based on my efforts alone if I choose to do more assignments in a day, rather than make the same hourly wage no matter how fast or slow I worked. If I don't feel like working 1 day or need to stop earlier than I planned, I just turn off the apps. I don't have to grovel to a boss asking if I can leave early or feel guilty because I had to call in sick.

I had a huge burnout back in 2015 and quit EVERYTHING to go travelling. I thought I'd get it all out of my system and then come back and go back to work (my boss even offered to keep my job open for me). But what happened as I spent 7 months travelling is that I suddenly owned 100% of my time, I had full agency for the first time in my life, and once I experienced that unplugging from the matrix I REALLY didn't want to plug back in. I did manage to turn my side-hustle into a sustainable freelance job and I make more than any salaried job I ever had by working less up to the present. Thank heavens for that burnout! It did strike me how most people go through their entire pre-retirement life having NEVER really owned their time.

Interesting… I’ve Done the same repeated times but always end up back as a wageslave… Even though my own father is a extremely successful entrepreneur his whole life and even now as a 67 year old, I would argue that he works way more for the same penny as most wage slaves here in Sweden. So he’s even more of a slave but people look up to him as an extremely good entrepreneur and people like to fantasize about the good life… They mostly see the lavish business trips etc he goes too but not the grueling work he puts in day in and day out. So now at 33 I actually want to be a wage slave for the rest of my life and live comfortably and have more time for the people in my life and also hobbies. This is the Swedish system and I think it’s kind of nuts to be an entrepreneur in our economy

I'm also 33 and experiencing this life implosion. I can't do it any more. It's driving me insane. Everything is suffering because of it. Monday I tell the boss, he's a good man and I work for a small construction company but the system is wrong and I won't be a part of it no more. I'll report back in a couple of years and tell you how it was the best thing I ever did. I can't wait for that time. I'm tired of living in this valley, Jesus please find me a new mountain top!!!!! God bless you all!!!

When you do the same work as a contractor you get to take home what would have been the profit margin of the company… so you can work less hours for the same pay or as I’ve found get paid much more. So you can choose how much you work in that season… rn I’m recovering from EBV from burnout from my previous job, so I only have one client and work 1 day a week for them. It gives you options to give yourself health leave and vacation, to take care of yourself.

As I am into music production (self taught). Now I am doing DJing. I did my research and plan/stategies. And the most important thing - love. Follow your passion and do what you love to do. I paid for a Dj courses school practice room for an hour where I could practice. After getting confident I recorded video of my 1 hr set. Then used it to promote myself by sending emails to different night clubs and got offered to play in many places

It’s always easier said than done. I know entrepreneurs who started businesses but you know what? They always have somebody else paying the bills. I think it’s called a spouse who works for corporate. So that enables these entrepreneurs to dabble in their businesses. A one man, one woman company? This can take years to develop, and there are a lot of hurdles, especially with technology. I really resent how these gurus try to present this as something that is easy to attain. I’ve been trying to get my business off the ground for two years now. You need to be extremely disciplined and frugal. You also need to remove people from your life who waste your time.

Its very difficult. I realize that. And personally I feel to old to do it, especially since I really don't see it. I cover this topic a bit more in my latest video "if you are to stupid to escape wage slavery". Thats why I put my hope into investing. But I think you can start a business with a patience in mind. Like baby steps. not 100% (of course not all business ideas work like this). But I hope you manage to get your business where you want it to go.

I just turned 40. I’m thinking of going out on my own as a contractor, doing what I do now but as my own business. Its scary though. I’ve spent 15 years becoming quite expert at what I do, in a niche area of business. I’m head hunted often. But my salary is nice and I’m very comfortable. There’s a very innate urge to stick with what you know! It’s hard to take that leap even though financially it would be a lot more profitable going out on my own.

I worked out how much subcontractor work I needed to survive to get out of working in horrid companies with no scruples. I realised I could work for half the time and earn the same so made the jump with a few grand tucked away just in case. Twenty years later, still going and growing. One of the issues though is when you get more clients you need to manage your time as say no more often, otherwise you end up working even more than as an employed person. Most people wont take the jump though, as its easier and less risky to just moan about your situation.

You are right and thanks for this vid.:) As an Aspie lady, we have it incredibly hard in classic corporate jobs LOL. I have never been into a classic job where I wouldnt meet some kind of mistreatment either from colleagues, bosses or clients or even worse, from all. Those who are not mistreated the same way, often dont believe me and they say things like "You must have some fault in you to bring such harassment upon yourself." Well, eff that. People are simply mostly horrible nowadays, many toxic folks out there. And they hate those who are different. So that being said for people like me, starting a one man/woman company would be ideal. However, since I still live in the near vicinity of my toxic family, for me its hard to do.....I guess I must strive to move far away from them in order to start my one person business. I know they would sabotage my success and they would try to interfere with the way I would want to lead my business. So sadly as for now I am forced to search out classical jobs and that really sucks. But hopefully in the close future, I would be able to be my own boss with my little business.

I value flexibility and self-empowerment and that’s what working for yourself gives you! I write novels (crescent crown saga), play music in a band (frailin’ hearts), and do some nonprofit/small biz marketing consulting (Prairie Phoenix Consulting). I sell insurance part time for a company on the weekend (I started as a contractor and then they made us employees but still treat us the same basically… I don’t really have a boss tho. I pick up gigs when I want to and pitch the insurance for $100 base plus sales commission. It’s easy and I ignore all the company drama).

Maybe do a video on how people play by false rules. I will do a video about that in the future. There is this issue that I have. I imagine many others do too. The issue is this. The idea that one can make a living without absolutely hating their life, seems improper. The architects of our current society have quantumly entangled being able to pay the rent with misery, with sustaining life (money for food) with no longer wanting to live. It seems an impossibility to make a good living and not want to drown yourself everyday. I know that’s false, but it’s so deeply implanted in my psyche it’s proving difficult to extricate myself from that particular psychological prison. I bet most people have this problem. Thx!

Doing what you like on your free time as a full-time vocation degrades the passion until it no longer exists. Owning your own business for sustenance makes you a wage slave to your clients. There is no "gateway to abundance and freedom" because maintaining abundance is constant toil and freedom is you taking a walk or a break whenever you want to. Your ego will want to rage against this truth being stated because as a child you were told that breaking your back in the name of productivity is virtuous, and what you learn as a child is difficult to unlearn as an adult. The people who sold you that bridge would make an 8 year old work in a coal mine without safety precautions or adequate pay while they eat lobster. Freedom means setting boundaries that work for you and sticking to them no matter the consequences. Being free isn't always profitable. Entrepreneurship is not freedom.

@@TomScryleus The stress of being poor impacts a person's cognitive resources. Musk never had that stress. Sure he has other stresses but I doubt he has ever been concerned about where his next meal was coming from. In nature if I’m dumped you on island right now (even with a million dollars in your bank account - you will be forced to build shelter, hunt, fish or trap your food. Money is just a tool that’s all it is. It can’t give you the body you want, the bachelors degree you want, the relationship or girl you want, the business/social connections you want. This all requires effort and labour. The idea me sitting at home playing video games on my smartphone with million dollars in my bank account is somehow going to give me all these things. Not all people want you to succeed, and especially when starting out, when you make it known that you are behind a certain brand or service, does it not open you up to issues? People may want to throw stones in your way, sue you, etc, which can lead to huge expenses, which may be problematic, especially in the beginning. Maybe one should move in silence until a certain degree of success has been achieved?

I will keep my family together. Everyone will work towards good living, no debt and loading up SP500 index funds. Within a generation nobody will need to work anymore. My plan needs 30 years for a family to stick together and have a great life under the same roof. And yes, the children will stay with me for free. Everyone work a little, then off to home for the best cuisine, board game tournaments, sports and movies on TV, have friends come over, etc. Life is great and in the end we will all end up rich (mostly the children, because I might be dead by then, 22 more years to go). People sending their kids away for a "career" are victims to the corporate meat mincer. Cheers!

Exactly. One of the many reasons I’m not having any.

Madness. If you want kids have them. This is part of the reason the west is failing

From an historical and evolutionary perspective, life that does not reproduce is generally considered to have "failed." Is this the wisest course of action?

In my experience, having kids makes you strive for more. I have 4 sons and started my own carpentry business 3 years ago. My wife is a stay at home mom. They are currently on a vacation to Disney and I'm taking a friend on a hunting trip in the Adirondacks while they're gone. I would have never been able to do that without starting my own company and I wouldn't trade being a dad for anything.
