@cofevity6717
@cofevity6717 2 года назад
@@cheddarcheesewoah in my country, he wouldn't. You don't get any resources or tests to exercise before an exam. They will just tell you that the test will be based on e. g. four chapter in the book. And you need to memorise everything from this chapter, because questions will be based on those texts. If you fail, you'll get a different test while trying the second time. European school system sucks, because it's very hard and gettting straight A's is almost impossible, at least in Poland, where you have fourteen subjects per year and to get an straight A from a subject, you need to take a part in competition in this field. Otherwise, if you study hard enough, you'll get only an A.

When I was learning a certain math sheet, all the kids were just doing the ones they knew. And since I need help most of the time (autism) I was sitting at the back with the teacher and an EA. The teacher asked "which ones should we start with?" I pointed to the ones that I didn't understand and said "these ones because I understand the others better than this one" I was expecting an okay, but they both looked at me and said they were proud that I was choosing to practice my weaknesses instead of just doing the ones I already know. I think of that day every test I have and it makes me smile :)

This actually helped me alot in my last Anatomy exam. Our professor gives us the opportunity to go back and look at what we got wrong. And he told us that instead of looking simply at the write answers to what we got wrong, look at the "type" or "category" of questions we got wrong. Were the majority of questions about the bones? Muscles? Motion anaylsis? I targeted that on the exam I just took and I did alot better 👍

Focusing on weaknesses is not the best approach for "getting good grades". It is best approach to "understand". If you are a try hard student, there is a lot of chance that you understand most of the concepts and are likely to get good grades. The one you don't understands are probably the ones that no one else understands as well. The teachers usually do not put the hardest topics on exams or they do not count it a lot most of the times. There is a lot of chance that your weakness might not even be in the exam. Instead focus on topics that all the class understands and the teacher emphasizes on. You should understand your weaknesses but don't break your head over it. This is from experience. I used to focus on weaknesses for hours and they were not even covered in exams. I wish I took that time to focus on other topics.

I've never heard about someone studying everything equally. When you know something, you just do a quick reminder, you spend the most of time on the hardest things. You need to be sure, you won't lose points on easy questions and at least be able to try to answer on harder ones

There's something similar to this called the GROW method, Cajun Koi Academy has a really good video explaining it!

i’m the type of person that literally never studies… i really need help in motivation, i’m only in year 9 (grade 8), and the tests were so easy that they didn’t even require studying (though some people did get bad grades) the thing is, once i go into my GCSEs, i can’t do the same, but i’ve never learnt to study properly and i’ve always procrastinated, yet still got good marks just bc i’m ‘smart’ (which, i’m just like everyone else. and i need a way to motivate myself.)

Apply 80/20, Parkinson's Law, Active Recall and give yourself time, like 2 weeks or so, to internalize everything, and this is paramount: *use a Calender or some kind of track system* to keep close taps on your life. A simple google calender is enough (reducing the labour of managing multiple systems) and if that's not possible, due to logistic issues, try to learn with organization systems of the past. Use a whiteboard, pen and paper. This will also enhance your writing skills and memory since writing is thinking frozen in time and you'll need to be clear and concise for your system not to overwhelm you instead of help. You'll end up with an ability to create systems which is more important than the systems themselves, cause it allows to adapt. Unless what you truly want is to study one day, maybe remember and absolutely forget long term, and feel like you're always being rushed. Get good faster on what's more important and since active recall can be a pain in the ass, especially after a tiresome day in school, i recommend doing a little bit everyday, like 30m, not to wait to the test period. Luckily you can use the questions the book already have (or you might search it online) reducing the friction of coming up your own or to have to write an essay about it (but an essay is a great and simple last resource). Try to find a golden mean - not too little, not too much questions, and this will vary depending on subject - focusing on showing up is more important. And maybe even more important, sleep enough, eat healthy and enough, exercise and keep a proper growth mindset where you seek challenges and difficulties instead of avoiding it, which leaves you weak.

I feel like you should just realize, like actually tell yourself, your weaknesses after each test, or even while your taking it. This is good but also keep these things in mind throughout the year so u don’t cram.
