Here's one more tip if you're just starting out: When you start building your study plan, start by visualizing what you think you'll actually need to live your life.. in Japanese. For example, when you first meet a Japanese speaker, what do you think you'll have to do? Just like with your first language, you'll need to learn how to (1) introduce yourself (2) explain what you like (3) maybe explain why you like Japanese or (4) explain how long you've been studying. Think through a real life situation where you met someone and what that conversation looked like. Now, figure out how to do that in Japanese! For everyone, a good place to start is a jikoshoukai (Self introduction). Good luck! :)

this is so awesome I never though about learning like that, I tend to try to study the resources my teacher give mexD I was losing my hiragana because of not reading a lot, but once college ends I'll do those steps and hopefully at the end of I can build a conversation! Thank you for this tips and your friend is funnyxD

There are a few components to studying Japanese online . A place I found which successfully combines these is the Fergs Magic Blueprint (check it out on google) without a doubt the most incredible resource that I've seen. Check out all the interesting info .

Why is this channel so incredibly underrated? Nearly no one has broke down a strategic way of learning a language. If this isn't your full time job, I have no idea why it shouldn't be. I wish you the best of luck in your future; you have gained a life time subscriber.

We've got a fellow student in one of our Japanese classes who has that same / similar style of body language. He's also very quiet, though. Boomer, on the other hand definitely projects his voice. Though...that gaze...mesmerizing. I get the sense of slight hesitation, possibly uncertainty and a little apprehension while still have courage in moving forward. Might not just be because of learning Japanese, but possibly didn't know how to behave in front of the camera, didn't know not to stare straight into the camera with the gaze of a hawk stalking its prey. O_O Brings back memories of when I was visiting Japan for the first time with only 3 months of Japanese under my belt.

I appreciate it, but i find it easier to learn from English, although i am a Brazilian. For some reason my brain learns things better in English than it does in Portuguese, perhaps it's something to do with the the fact that i will pay more attention than i would in my native language. :-D Having said that, i am still struggling to find the best way for me to engage in Japanese, i often find myself frustrated and confused. :-(

@elusnuga

Hi. Are you actually planning to go to Japan and live there? If not, you don't have to focus on speaking that much in my opinion. I have been studying Japanese for 3-4 years and my main goal is to be able to read anything. (I'm a bookworm) I can read manga/novels with furigana or without furigana if the language is simple. My second goal is to be able to understand what I hear. I watch Japanese youtubers, dramas etc. I can understand pretty well if the topic isn't too difficult or something I'm unfamiliar with. Then comes writing (I like writing) and the last, speaking. I can communicate with a native speaker well enough (I have Japanese friends online) I have never talked to one though. I don't mind because that's not my priority. Just wanted to share my experience and thoughts. I hope I helped 😊 Good luck with your studies

I'm so happy to see Kemushi Chan's success. I came across her vid's many years ago when she was still struggling to learn Japanese herself. Her difficulties and frustrations totally paralleled my own. I remember her saying one sentence in an early vid that I thought useful for my life in Japan, and that she said so fluently, that I wrote it down and then practiced saying it in front of a mirror, to the man in the mirror (me), till I could say it without thinking ー 毎日勉強しだけどすぐに忘れちょうよ。 10 or more years later it still comes out without having to think. Perhaps not the most useful sentence (lol) but it's an encouraging comeback for some my English students who have difficulty remembering English words or phrases. I found that a great practice, by the way - saying a sentence or pattern over and over till you can say it fluently without thinking. Important that you say it to someone or something otherwise you're just saying it "in your mind." Anyway, great work Kemushi san. A great encouragement and resource for us learners.

7:40 question!! New self-study learner myself, right now. I notice a lot how more natural-irl Japanese adds a quick- particle?- A sound at the end of a sentence. And I never see or hear that in any lesson or study programs that l learn from. So. A study program will introduce ございます, but anytime l hear this in, say, an anime or irl video, there's that added した (And this happens for other phrases too, like お願います versus お願いしました). What's the purpose if this in the context of when (why?) you do and do not use it. Does it have different meaning/rules, or is it just- a more casual way of speaking that's not so much taught in "formal/strict" learning programs? ...hopefully that question makes sense. Any help is appreciated.

Seeing all the textbooks reminded me of when I was learning Japanese in school and the textbooks were all manga-ized and easy. あぁ〜懐かしくてまたあの頃に戻りたいなー!

Throw in [Naruhodo ne!], [Sokka?], [Shiraneeeee na....] and/or [uzendayo---!!!] every now and then and you are all set!

A quick way I learned Hiragana and Katakana was using the "Learn" apps in the Android Play store (i think it's available for iOS as well). Really drilled me on recognition of the kana but also how to say them. 👌👍
