I’ve been watching your videos for about 6 months. I’ve knocked 10 strokes off my game. One thing I can’t get or change is my iron trajectory. I’m hitting it so high. I don’t think I’m flipping or losing lag. What should I change to take loft off of ball flight? I’m contacting ball first and have improved like I said. Just ball is too high.
@@AthleticMotionGolf thank you for the reply. I just went and had my clubs checked and I’m playing my first set of forged irons so I did not realize I needed to have them checked for lie and loft. From 7 iron through 3 iron they Were all off. My 6 iron was lofted the same as my 8. So needless to say I’m crushing my irons now.
One of the most informative videos on compression while explaining the dynamic move and the optimal ball position. All of this while actually demonstrating the swing. Well done guys!
Great video. I used to do this then got all messed up and starting playing the ball further back to get shaft lean and it just ruined my swing. This video and the stop pull video which did an incredible job w the handpath are changing my life
This lesson "covered" :) the exact terms that are confusing and cause extensive frustration while learning the swing. BRAVO! I recently had to change my grips to jumbo size because of some arthritis is the hands and wrists. Hitting many golf balls over the years. A lesson on what effect the grip size will have on the swing and impact would be very helpful. Thanks for always presenting a quality product. Paul Reynolds
Your site is the best out there for explaining the fundamentals of the golf swing. I like Chris Ryan and Eric Cogorno as coaches but especially with the gears, you guys make things very clear....keep up the good work. Not sure if your site has already done it but a specific video on the driver, especially in terms of hitting up as opposed to compressing the ball would be great.
I needed this video. I am that guy that would lean my left shoulder first and hit the pull shot. Then I would hit the big draw or hook shot and if I was on that day. A 5 yrd draw every time. The problem is...I had a ankle brace on the right ankle. No weight. So I taught myself to time my swing. I was a 6 hcp. I had my ankle replaced. Now i can push off and put weight on it. Now I have no idea where the ball is going. I line up to play the draw. The ball will go straight. Miss the green right. Play it at the flag. pull or draw the ball. I got fitted for my irons because i felt that i needed to change my swing. He said that i am making great contact. But on the way down. I lift my hands and flipping them. Seeing this video makes me think that I have the ball back to the middle of my stance. I thought if I play the ball up. I was drawing the ball. Now I know that I am leaning to the left. Then I am flipping my hands and lifting them up to get the body to turn. Move the ball forward and turn and not lean or lean the left shoulder. Any thoughts from anyone will be good news to me. I cant break 80 now. I did have my left knee and left hip replaced. Right ankle replaced and now i need right knee replaced. These things could make a difference. I am only 53. Cancer 2 times. Any thoughts would be great.
Best golf advice on the net. I’m 56, 9 handicap and going up. Was 5 10 years ago. Losing speed as I get older. However over lockdown Watching amg have increased club head speed from 82 with 7 iron to 88. Feel like on brink of shooting much lower scores. Thanks.
You guys highlighted the same in a previous video. I was always keeping my upper center static, behind the ball and struggled hitting my irons well. I implemented the forward body press, followed by the backswing movement and almost halfway back I start moving everything forward again (I can see on the ground I'm moving forward) and it has made a huge difference. I have gained a lot of distance. It does freak out my mind but after 5 games and no further driving range sessions I am getting used to feeling that I'm in front of the ball when hitting it. I do the same with the driver and when I'm settled in my round I hit it really well. On some holes of my home course I am reaching distances that I reached 16 years ago when I was 50. Thx for making me aware that the whole body moves forward guys! No one else highlights that aspect.
After watching their videos I want to be an astronaut with all the information and graphics. Golf is tough enough as it is. I'm going to frame my clubs
@@AthleticMotionGolf I am so cofused by all this information. Think I will fram all my clubs and display them on my living room wall for all to see. Just joking. All the so called PGA coaches can now be more consistant in their coaching by learning from thouse guys. No more stupid swing tips.
Once again...mind blown!! I experimented briefly a few years ago with "framing" the ball, but I could never get it to work consistently. Now I know why. I was missing the element of re-centering, and also missing the element of moving both centers ahead of the ball in the downswing before "framing" the ball. Where have you guys been all my life? Hahaha! Cannot thank you enough.
From Portugal: I have learned more in a few weeks than during 20 years of golf, because the difference is in the small movements and tips to get them that are explained in detail by AMG. Thanks.
Most ams struggle as they are told to fire the lower body while keeping the upper body passive. However, as shown in the models this does not occur, great video.
I think that was the situation for me. Always drove legs forward ahead of upper body but turned late to not enough. Then would early extend cause my backswing was too steep (baseball). So either blocked or hit hellacious hooks. Well, not always. Then started concentrating on getting lower body turning thru but upper would as well so I was coming over the top. Ahhhhh !
As a weekend hack, I keep seeing golfers taking advice to the extreme. Your videos show terms in tenths of inches instead of several inches. Many times, someone will use an expression like "shift your weight" and the person moves back 6 inches and forward a foot. Thanks for using all this technology to show most golf movements are small and simple. Keep these videos coming!
Could you do a video on the differences between a baseball and golf swing? For example, how come in baseball we don’t want to keep our left arm straight on the backswing, but we do in golf? Certainly a straight-ish left arm on the back swing allows for more precision and consistency, but does this also sacrifice a little bit of swing speed? Similarly, in baseball we unhinge the wrists during contact to release extra energy and generate more speed, but in golf we hold the lag. Does this again improve precision at the slight cost of swing speed?
Great timing on uploading this video. This directly applied to what I'm practicing today, and helped me fill in a knowledge gap. Great video, thank you!!
Saw the video...went to the garden..boom compressed! found out before i wasn't getting my left side joints quite aligned at impact. Your self checkpoints through video are really helpful!
TOPIC IDEA: How to learn a new motor skill so that it happens subconsciously under pressure. You always present a drill or two to help us learn. And you often correct the underlying concept. But how does a golf learner go about mastering the skill to a deeper and deeper level so that it shows up in the tournament? Is there a calendar approach to the mixture of drilling, feedback, testing, on-course application, etc. that is a "better path" for making that skill an unconscious competence under pressure? Is there a recommendation of how to learn and test at one level (say, practice tee), versus casual games on the course, versus tournament conditions? How much can I accomplish with slow motion in my garage? How far will chunking the motion take me on the range, etc. I think this topic is little addressed in most circles. Give us the AMG way to mastery! :-)
Could you guys do some different "Pros vs. Ams" course management videos? You have been so helpful on the golf swing that I think some course management stuff could very helpful and would be interested to see how you guys teach this side of the game. Because no matter how much you practice, you eventually have to go put that swing into action and play. How do you manage the course when going through swing changes and your swing still feels like an unfolded lawn chair?
It's a hard thing to teach. For me it started to make sense when I felt more in control when/if I was aware of the vertical extension of my core as I neared the top of my backswing. As a tottering old man, I lost it. Now, I'm using it as a tool, along with keeping my upper body vertical while I drop the right arm. Thanks for the help. pk
Guys, can you do a video on hand and shaft position at address, and impact position for driver, I see to many variations of this and I’d like to see you guys doing a video on that subject. Love all your videos guys keep up the good work👍🏻
Correct me if this is wrong but it seems like this video is telling us to start with the ball a little forward in our stance. That makes perfect sense to me in this context but everything else I've ever seen says to keep the ball basically centered for some clubs and only move it a little forward in your stance for longer irons or driver. Some clubs are even suggested to keep the ball towards the back of your stance. How does that work with this shifting motion? Are we supposed to keep the ball in the front of our stance for ALL clubs in order to get good compression?
Nice video! can you do a video on the take away and the difference between how much the lower body moves from address before the lower body becomes engaged and begins turning. I know you’ve done videos like that before but it Reinforces the fact that you don’t engage the lower body right away on the take away. Thanks
It's releasing not only your hands, but to me, releasing your torso through the impact as well. I do this by planting my left heel and stand straight up to n fire the right hip through impact.
Great video guys! So the club I play on is in the foothills of N. CA and I'm faced with a lot of uphill and downhill lies on approach shots. How does proper framing change on a uphill or downhill lie? Would love to see how a pro hitting off an uneven lie like this would appear on the gears animation.
Great video! Thanks. Could you please explain the finish of the golf swing. I am a decent 10 handicap but I can not manage a decent finish and it bothers me tremendously, thanks in advance. Juan Carlos Seminario. Cancun - Mexico
Great video! Based on your comments on ball position - should we setup more behind the ball with the clubhead at address? Also, at the end you mention the left arm pull down move can lead to excess axis tilt at impact - how do we blend that pull down move and not fall back on the right foot?
When I have a shot that requires a short backswing and an abbreviated follow-through because of tree limbs it consistently feels like what you are talking about in this excellent video. I hardly ever feel that in a full swing. I have "tried" to trick myself on full shots (imagine that I am behind tree limbs), but it never seems to work! Any ideas? Thanks, hope you reply.
I think a lot of people give up on the forward ball position too soon. Instead of fixing the swing to match the better/correct ball position, they use a bad ball position to compensate for bad swing mechanics. What are your thoughts on fairway wood and driver ball position?
Please show a golfer who goes way over parallel in the backswing and fights an out to in swing. The tell tale evidence of the out to in swing are the scrapes on the bottom of all clubs and skewed divots pointing from right to left. I scoop and I want to stop going over parallel, swinging out. Of course I get better contact when the ball is back in my stance. My slow practice swing looks fairly normal but I have this kill instinct to tighten up and hit as hard as possible when its time to hit the ball for real. I feel I am not shifting my weight forward until the backswing is complete and this forces my body to slice.
Thanks for the video. Great insight. I was wondering, how ca I dynamically stop overswinging it and placing the club "across the line" at the top of the backswing?
Great video and instructions, now I’ve seen I’ve been playing my iron shots at the center of my body , so if I understand what I just saw I move the ball forward in my stance and I’ll get compression
What is very noticeable looking at that professional image setup is how VERTICAL that lead arm is while the right arm reaches towards the inner thigh of that lead leg... as a low hcp player i know this is an essential thing at the setup for an easier early shift backwards and that forward move at the top of ur back swing.... this setup is NOT well enough explained if u ask me at any videos i found so far (might have missed it though). How much that right elbow point in and outwards instead of left and right is also a huge thing at setup for this move and to get to the right position at the top ... the details at setup for this "covering the ball" to happen naturally are hugely important. Someone trying this in an off or awkward setup will not hit the ball as sweetly ... not even close ;)))) Love all ur videos guys ... really do ... but had to point this out ... that forward press is caused at the "perfect" setup .... Take care ... and best wishes from Iceland ;)
Hi Guys, Once again great video into the compression of the ball , not sure if you noticed but @ 9.52 your line centre of head ends up left hand side of face after shaun hits the ball, mike did you move the line after shaun switched on the mic ?? reference finish position of head@ 12.22 ??
Will try this . Swing driver 103 mph but can only get 6 iron to 80 if lucky . my sequence is all screwed up and hitting so far I should grow vegetables. I hope this helps
any easy way where my ball in on my stance (either at range or course) I know feel is not real when it comes to golf. I feel i have mine in the Middle of the stance (7-iron) but when i Look at it through a photo or video, its like way back.
Would Love to see a Slo-mo colorized animation and explanation of what muscles and percentages are being used during each phase of a Pro swing using your Gears 2 system!
Would you use the same ball location for all irons? If so, where does the extra shaft length get compensated for in the swing? Shaft lean, posture at impact, or initial set up distance from the ball?
@@AthleticMotionGolf so posture becomes more upright as you progress from from your short to long irons? Doesnt that also change swing plane? PS-I truly appreciatee your videos. Your analysis has finally broken down years of baseball muscle memory and allowed me to approach a single digit handicap
Bobby Jones had the ball just inside his left foot for all shots, with the feet widening a little for longer shots. Worked well for him, retired at age if 28 with 13 majors and the grand slam in 1930. Jack also did this.
This pro is not recentering until the start of the downswing. This is opposed to what you have shown with other pros who have started recentering about left arm parallel in backswing
Nope. He starts re-centering before the club is parallel to the ground in the backswing and has recentered before the club starts down. You might want to rewatch the video again because this is exactly why we showed the numbers in real-time.
I feel all I do is get the club back down to the ball then rotate around with my arms extended almost straight. I know feel isn’t real but the ball goes lower and I hear the hiss. I must be covering and not exaggerating the shaft lean etc etc. does this make sense?
