@@candygreen1831 No, it wasn't working before, now you replaced the battery, and it's still not working. The keyfob itself is the problem, it's not getting power from the battery, most likely, but the coil behind the button can excite the coil in the fob and get it to work. You might need to replace the keyfob.

The dealer is certainly never going to tell you this, that might impede future business. It's not in their best interest to tell you. I read the owner's manual, that's all I did. There's lots of other information in there as well. These keyfobs are nothing to mess with. $500 for a replacement is about the going rate. Keep them in good condition, don't get them wet. Most times nowadays, they never have to be removed from a pocket or purse, so there should never be a reason to lose them.

Thanks Rocky! This information actually is in the book, but being several hundred pages, it's easy to miss. When the battery gets marginally low, you'll start having problems. In a perfect world, the car will warn you when leaving the vehicle. I've had luck opening the fob and spinning the battery clockwise some, for some reason that would make it work for a little while. After a while I got tired of opening the door with the key and touching the fob to the button so I replaced the battery and all is well.

The salesman showed me how to do it when I bought the vehicle. Three years later I had forgotten how to do it, but I did remember there was a way. I just now replaced the battery

No problem. I have found that the battery in this fob has to be brand-new fully charged up, not one that has been sitting around for some time on a shelf. It might be worth your while to try another battery in the fob before succumbing to dealer prices.

Please Gary Mattews, I just had similar issues with my car. I changed the battery in the key fob and yet my doors nor ignition powered up. I jst kept punching d button nd the car came up. When you got to the dealership what did they say was wrong with the key fob or the car. I am in Nigeria and i dont have the privilege to visit any dealership.

The salespeople also don't teach you how to drive. This little tidbit of information was right under your nose, in your glove compartment, in the owner's manual, the whole time.

Thanks very much! Here's the answer to your wonder. Behind the start/stop button is a coil. Inside the keyfob is another coil. Then they are brought close to each other, the coil in the fob gets excited by the coil in the start/stop button (powered by the car battery). That gives the keyfob power to transmit, tells the car that it's this keyfob, the car accepts it, and it starts. It works on exactly the same principle as a wireless phone charger.

No, it'll keep working. Perhaps the batteries you got were no good? These keyfobs seem to be particular about having the right, and high enough voltage to work. I ended up with some junky batteries that only last a short while before needing to be replaced. Perhaps yours are worse.

Check the expiration date on the batteries yes I didn't know that and went through some troubles until It dawned on me.... Maybe they have an expiry date and sure enough they do

There should be a very small hatch by the shifter that you have to pry out carefully. You'll then need a stick of some kind (a screwdriver will do the trick), inside will be a release button you need to hold down, then you can shift it. It's been that way since they mandated you to step on the brake to shift out of park, somewhere around 1990 that I remember. To this day, stepping on the brake to shift out of park really annoys me. So I bought a classic car that doesn't have that problem. The shifter isn't tied to the key either. Doesn't have a steering wheel lock, or wraparound turn signals, none of those things were federally mandated in '67. Of course if I leave the windows down anybody could reach in and throw it in neutral and roll it away, but back in those days it was pretty rare you'd hear about stuff like that happening.

The crown models are not in the US, where I am located, so it may be different. But, Toyota usually keeps everything the same. Here's what I can tell you: If the trunk valet is enabled (meaning a valet attendant would not be able to enter the trunk), the powered solenoid for the trunk will not work, and neither will the lever in the car by the sill plate near the seat. The idea is when you have a valet take the car, you give them the fob ONLY, and not the metal key. Only the key will open the trunk. If the key turns at all in the trunk, the lock cylinder needs lubrication. I would spray it liberally (and inside the keyhole) with something like WD-40, don't know if you have that where you are, but you can look it up and find something similar if you don't. There is only one other way into the trunk, and that's IF your car is equipped with it. I know it's a law in the US, there must be a trunk release cord inside the trunk, with a glow-in-the-dark handle. If you back seat folds down, climb in and yank on it. If you only have the cubby hole like my car, shown in this video, you'll need a lot of patience and a long tool that can grab it. If none of that works, it's time to start dismantling the car. Take out the back seat and keep unbolting things until you have full access to the trunk. You can then crawl in there and push the latch manually with a screwdriver. Once you get it open, you'd better have parts on hand or be ready to fix it, otherwise you're crawling in there again.
