Hey buddy. Like your tour. Keep up the great work I am myself. I have only been in business for a year and I’ve got some ups and downs but I keep working at it. I am just like you I have a shop at my house I only have a few machines, but I keep working at it very impressed with your story. And I’m glad practical Machinist came along and did this video with you. It gives a lot of people the inspiration they need.

I am building up my shop at home currently as well. Its nice to see other people still in the stage of scraping by with what they have and making it work. You don't always need fancy to make parts. Watching all the fancy big money 5 axis machines people seem to be buying, makes me question my 20 year old 3 axis machines. But hey they are paid for and still make stuff.

@@e.m.machineworks I know this was a while ago, but how did you go about finding jobs/ contracts? Was it mostly just calling shops around your area?
@jasko346
@jasko346 9 месяцев назад
@@RHCPFAN-yk6swthat has always been an up and down slope. A lot of my work came from someone I knew that had a shop and O went and asked for overflow work. I also got work from going to a job interview and then sharing about my shop, one company said we don't want to hire you but we want you to do out offload work. Also few people I knew from when I was employed recommended me to others. I am scaling back a little bit and moving away from offload work. It took about 3 years but now I have couple customers that are needing longer term work. There are companies and businesses out there that are waiting to meet you. My advice is don't do cold emailing. Find any opportunity to get a face to face meeting. If you call try to get a meeting instead of saying hey I have a shop. Maybe apply for jobs. You don't have to take them but go and see what the shop is what they make, somewhere in the conversation put that you do work from home. I have met many people that have full time jobs and work from home. However it's about just how much you want to put into working from home only. Some people have just enough work to keep them busy part time and they love it like that. Some are scared to leave their job. Either way you look at it there's plenty of work out there. The large machine shops are not all that either. I know some that are struggling and about 6 months behind on work. Good luck to you.

Killing it bro! Congratulations for taking the leap and following through You don’t need all the polish and pizzaz of a fancy shop to get lots of quality work done. Keep the pipeline if jobs flowing and the shop organized and you’ll do well.

@@e.m.machineworks i took the plunge a few years back (late 2018) not gonna lie, there was some lean years but the last few has helped me catch back up and are looking good. keep motivaated, focused and organized. seriously. those are by biggest pitfalls I need to overcome some days. Garage life is pretty sweet though, get to walk inside and see my babys whenever i want, take a sunny teuseday off and have a picknic, its great (gotta play catchup saterday tho!)
@e.m.machineworks
@e.m.machineworks Год назад
@@brianwaayenberg3099 I agree, nothing better then waking up, making cup of coffee, and walk 10 feet to your own company. Take a break whenever, if programs are too long watch a movie or go outside play with kids while machines are running... it's just too awesome. Sure there are nights when you sit there by yourself and cry, but I don't know anyone that made it without failing a ton at first. You could fail 100 times, but it just takes one good connection and it could change your life in this trade. Until then, slow and steady..

F***! Loving this video. Was contemplating watching a Jack Reacher episode but thought I’d check out this channel instead. Glad to have made that choice - this is even better. My “shop” is barely even this, maybe 15% so far. Am still in a regular job for 80% of the time and very much learning the ropes. So it’s really valuable to see how someone else is solving machining problems.

Amazin video! :) I have a couple of questions since I am rly looking forward to buy a cnc machine and start my own journey. Since I live in Bosnia, I have very little amount of options when it comes to cnc machines, the cheapest cnc machine I could find was Hurco VM1 2003. and it would cost me around 20k $ just to buy it. What should I do for beginning, try to buy Hurco, or go with Tormach, Tormach would cost me much more tho, and I dont know if it is worth shipping it to Bosnia?
@e.m.machineworks
@e.m.machineworks 9 месяцев назад
I bought my machine from a company I worked at. I knew 16 years of history of the machine, I knew how much it was used, and I used it before I bought it so I knew how it ran and if it had issues and so on. Also for me it was really cheap for what I was getting. That being said, if you can make sure Hurco machine work properly and doesn't have any hidden issues to the best of your ability, Hurco is a way to go. I love Tormach, I will recommend it to anyone as a company and as a hobby machine that doesn't cost crazy money, but a working 2003 Hurco will run circles around any new Tormach. However anything on Tormach you can fix yourself, with Hurco if something serious breaks you might just end up with a potato. I hope that helps.
