I've started a new ink and watercolour illustration, and I'll be taking you along with me from the beginning to the end in a series of videos. By slowing the journey down, you can join me each step along the way and see more of my thoughts, the ups and downs of my process, and solutions to things that come up. Starting here with a dive into my sketchbook to take a look through the plan for this illustration and what I encountered when sketching, then onto the pencil process on the watercolour paper block. I'm using a new-to-me block of hot pressed watercolour paper for this illustration, and you'll be able to find out how well it handles my preferred tools and methods for each stage of the process.
The drawing itself is of a character and a serpentine dragon. I originally came up with the idea in my sketchbook way back in 2022, and felt inspired to reimagine it recently. I haven't come up with names for either of them yet, but I plan to explore the full design of this dragon in more detail at some point.
