I have 30 years in the industry. I started my company in 2003. My advice is do not take every job! Some work and some customers are not worth having. You can be far more profitable working in a smaller geographic area and being more selective with the work that you take. Being big does not equal making more money. Grow smart.
I know it's been 8 months since this post went up but I couldn't agree more with nosaj. I started my company from scratch 10 years ago. Absolutely worked my tail off. I found out real quick that traveling a lot outside of your specific geographical area and expanding even with more trucks does not necessarily mean you will make more money. You can have another truck going out there and at the end of the day be making the same money and it's weird the way it works but I ended up not putting out extra vehicles because the stress was outweighing the money. A piece of advice I would like to give you is that customer service and building rapport with your customers is everything. Of course you need to do a good job and all that good stuff But if you have rapport and people know you, if you make a mistake and you will, they will be much likely to forgive and keep using you and you get to learn from the experience. I'm glad you're doing it when you're young. I started in my thirties after I had been working at a plant for 19 years. I'm 45 now and this business definitely takes its toll so get in and do it early in life. Proud for you buddy. You'll do great!
Yep, and just because you treat for mosquitoes, does not mean that it will get rid of a percentage of the mosquitoes. I have a pest control truck, treat for mosquitoes myself and does absolutely nothing. Demand cs, suspend poly zone, Mavrik, precore, archer, etc….. sucks. Inzecto’s, mosquito dunks., altodes,….junk…. At first the company I thought I work for was a scam. Then I started buying commercial grade products for my own property. And I test them out and I see zero relief. I will never sell someone on mosquitoes when I start my business because I almost am guaranteed that they will complain about them and they will want to cancel . As a technician for a large company every customer that has a mosquito package 100% complaints every time. My re-service rate is probably 50% for mosquito customers, because half of them are rich and just don’t go outside and don’t care.
I’m a real estate agent and we are ALWAYS looking for good termite inspection guys! I’m not sure what area you are in but I HIGHLY recommend taking some business cards around to real estate offices and meeting the agents because we are who recommend the inspectors to home buyers. Each home purchase usually requires an inspection so that’s an easy way to get business! Good luck dude!

You can broaden the scope of your pest control company by doing plant health care as well....the license he is talking about is the QS (Qualified Supervisor) through department of agriculture and there are different categories....in Colorado you need the 304 residential/commercial....for ornamental its the 207....this allows you to spray trees , shrubs....and certain flowers for aphids....spider mites etc.

Yes NC gave reciprocity to Kentucky's test. I still had to take the big license test but I got to skip a lot of steps. I have now taken the KY and NC big license pest control operator tests and I have to say, NC is way harder than KY's test.

Hi thanks for taking the time in posting your video. I own a pest control company as well and was hoping I can get some feedback. For residential clients, how do you go about scheduling them and trying to keep them scheduled within same day for the same area they are located in. I’m finding myself having a challenge contacting clients one by one then once they confirm I start scheduling them in using our pest control software. The problem is, sometimes a client that’s in the same area as the others that confirmed, wants service for another day when I’m really not by their area. Just wanted to pick your brain and see how you go about with scheduling your residential clients. I normally treat both exterior and interior for my clients. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again
Hello! Its definitely important to keep the routing efficient to save time. It something ive been improving on too. The best thing to do is have your schedule built out a few days or up to a week ahead of time and just tell the customer we will only be in your area that day. I try to just treat the exterior perimeter of most normal services if I can. What is your pest company called??

Welcome to north Carolina dan the bug man. I've been watching your videos for a little over a year now. I've heard you say here in Kentucky a lot so I didn't know you had come to north Carolina now lol. I inherited my grandparents country house and it was eaten up by termites up to about 50% was eaten but I've got a lot of it repaired but not living in it right yet. I'm in ellerbe north Carolina. How far would you travel to treat a house for termites? I would love to have it treated and you do a proper fine job. The few pest controls here do not hold a candle to you when it comes to doing a job good and proper. I've watched your videos and I'm going to try the digging a trench around the house method like you have shown in your previous videos and pour in the solution. I'm hoping it will keep the pesty termites away. I've spent thousands of dollars to repair their mess.. 😩 ugh.

Yes I need one! I was just at pest world and I was shown that they have a backpack granule spreader. Looks just like a liquid mister. I was impressed. I will definitely be getting one.
Seriously? How about looking that up for yourself. Do you have to be spoon fed everything? There is only so much you can cover in one video, and this was just an introductory video to starting the business.
