As a working class college student I'm grateful for this content when most EDC videos are overwhelmingly stuff that's just expensive toys and sponsor videos for expensive toys
Preach On X! EDC is a rabbit hole and you can find yourself on the treadmill of “Leveling Up” this, that, and the other thing. It can get exhausting and overwhelming.
I downgraded from a Spyderco para 3 down to a QSP parrot, because I felt like i was still a newbie at pocket knives and was getting anxiety at using such a relatively expensive knife for everyday tasks. Now with the parrot i feel like im more at ease with using it, and also learning how to maintain it. One day when i feel worthy, I'll upgrade back to my para 3. I guess the analogy is trying to drive a Porsche when you barely know how to drive.
@@tommywei1154 Well celebrate the fact that you are now in better circumstances by enjoying that wonderful spyderco blade! Using it doesn't mean abusing it. But by using it, it will get scratches and a unique look that tells the story of how long you've had it, and how well it's held up for you, and will become uniquely yours. Also, since you are new to knives, let me recommend getting the Worksharp guided field sharpener. It's foolproof, and will make you feel okay about dulling your knife through use, because you'll know you can make it hair splitting sharp in like 10 minutes with that thing.
@@benthephilosopher thanks for the recommendation. I got the sharpener recently and it's been great. This hobby is turning into a bottomless pit :) I got some wiha bits and pivot lube coming in the mail soon, so I'm looking forward to tinkering with the knife more
I almost always suggest a SAK over other multitools. I only keep an Old school Leatherman for a Car edc tucked in the side pocket of the door. That's Personally one of the only places I find myself using pliers. Outside of that, I use my SAK almost everyday, surprisingly for the toothpick. But I love your more down to earth approach to EDC, I unsubbed from other channels because they're far too frivolous. "This new $800 knife is the best option for your EDC" Man... f***k off with that. I've carried a RAT for almost 5 years, best $50 CAD I've spent.
My current edc knife is a civivi elementum in micarta and I love it!👍 Nextool and Olight now have mini multitools, I’ve had them for a couple of weeks, love them so far…
EDC is a rabit hole that I feel like people get sucked into, just like anything it can be an addiction and if you're not financially stable you will be making wrong decisions in priorities. For My EDC I used to be SUPER into knives until I realized I was buying knives that cost as much as firearms, I sold all of my customs and rightnow I only use spyderco because it's the best on function and price. Wallet I've been using the Same $25 wallet from armatus carry for 7 years. And light I carry the nitecore EDC27. Don't overdo it fellas, you'll have a pelican case full off stuff you don't really like
Awesome video once again. My EDC kit with pouch was around $150. So it's about right. Would like to upgrade soon but I'm going to wait. Like you said go based on your hourly wage. So thank you once again for everything and like always Semper Fi brother.
I use to carry a dedicated flashlight, but over years I found out I never ever used it. Using your smartphone built in flashlight is much faster easier, and its always with you and charged. I now only consider carrying super small powerful flashlights that live on your car keys.
What I actually have on me, every day: Timex (analog) watch--$40 from Amazon. 4G Alcatel flip phone from T-Mobile--$75. Leather billfold from Target--$25. S&W M&P Special Ops 4" folder--$23 from Amazon. And Sabre Red pepper gel--$13 from Amazon. That's what--$176 total, to get me through my days.
I think the biggest difference in something like my Sencut sachse and my benchmade Bugout is the materials used. Both knives are fun to fidget with and get the job done and I think if you’re going to beat the crap out of your knife maybe a cheaper knife is worth using so you don’t ruin a 250$ knife just saying
Good recommendations. I would say that 14c28 is a GREAT steel. It's better than D2 in my opinion. The edge retention is a little better on D2, but it is much, much harder to sharpen. 14C also has better wear and corrosion resistance. People are sleeping on 14C. Couple of other good rec's: QSP Penguin, Miguron Akri or Keryx, and Petrified Fish Beluga.
Nice list. I think a couple AA flashlights would’ve helped (Acebeam Pokelit AA, Lumintop Tool 3.0). I really liked the knife choice. I was hoping you would’ve included a watch, Casio W800H or W736H. Thank you for putting together a well thought out video. I know the work it takes to put together such things. Take care my friend.
If you'r a baller on a budget I highly suggest the QSP Penguin, it's a well made utilitarian knife in D2 for $30, I have knives worth several hundred dollars and I still carry my Penguin. Though mine are the more Gucci models in carbone fiber and titanium in 154CM and S35VN priced at $70 and $100. The base Model is D2 and G10/micarta.
Milwaukee fastback, LEDlenser p4r core, staedtler lumocolour, cheap wallet phone case. Plenty change left out of a £60/$75 budget. Plenty tools in tool boxes at work/home/backpack/car, navigate the world quite easily without having them in my pockets.
😅I can never convince myself to buy a new light, I have an old bike lamp that I had lying around, snipped off the parts I didn't need and I filed down the rough edges, but thinking about it from your 2 hours of work perspective, if I consider it in an "on average" mentality, the fact that I had it already from years before I started trying to build up what I use for EDC I consider it covered at functionally $0, so that gives me more room on other things. That'd be the only thing I'd recommend for anyone just getting into this, consider things you already own if they can fit into what you would carry every day with you.
No QSP Penguin?!? Great knife at $30-50 depending on what you want. Anyway. EDC for work is Vosteed Mini Nightshade, Olight 3T EOS, and my iPhone SE Gen 2. EDC for not at work Kershaw Bel Air, same light and phone, and a G43 with spare mag.
@MarineX good idea. It definitely seems more genuine when you actually own the products that you are suggesting. I just picked up the Casio World Time for $20 on Amazon, and I am enjoying it! It's nice to take a step away from the smart watch every now and them.
I've been eyeing a Casio *WS210H* which is usually at $32, but now it's out of stock from a seller on Amazon, and it's sold by another for $64. It usually comes back in stock, so I'm waiting on it to hit $32 again. It is solar powered, has world time, tide graph, moon phase, timer, stopwatch. Good deal (if one likes those features) for around $30 (when in stock). 😁
@@MikeandIkes_EDC I have an AE1000W in dark green color with world time and the tiny map (love it). ☺️👍 I just want a watch with solar power now, so really thinking of the WS210H. 😉 I also currently have a W735H for vibration alarm / timer, so I can be discreetly alerted, without anyone else knowing. 😁
I love that you included a knife with a reversible clip. As a lefty, it is soooo tilting that knives like the elementum don't have that. Like bruh...for 50 dollars, I expect that. Especially from a Chinese brand where adding it would cost so little in manufacturing. I bought the dessert warrior elementum 2 (I know how you feel about the dessert warrior stuff 😂) just assuming of course it would have a reversible clip (I know that's on me at the end of the day.) But I was like for real? For civivi? Meanwhile there's way cheaper knives with just as good or better action, just as good or better steel, with the reversible pocket clip, for less money. (Like you showed) I just don't understand it. Okay. Rant over. 😂 I am probably going to check that flashlight out that you recommend. Right now I keep a i1R2 pro on my keys for piddly things (still brighter than my cell phone) and a warrior nano 3 in my bag for just in case I need that extra output (which has come in handy many times). I still haven't pulled the trigger on a key organizer yet. But I'd probably go with one of the one's you suggested if I was going to try one. TLDR, great video and suggestions.
Sheeeeshhhhh, now that I am thinking about it my edc loadout cost about ≈$10.897 (with G19 Gen5) or ≈$15,492 (with Staccato XC) Here is the break down - MCX Rattler outfitted with Romeo XL red-dot / Surfire Scout Mini Turbo / 1 extra 30 round mag / an Omega 300 can, and a gen 6 256 gb iPad Pro 12.9 with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, and a tourniquet; All ride on the Vertx Commuter Sling 3.0 - G19(with no attachment) or Staccato XC (with Trijicon SRO / Surefire X300B) on my appendix both rides on T1 conceal holster On my jean pocket - Benchmade Bedlam 8600 - Secrid Wallet - Orbit Key - Airpod Pro 2 - An Apple Watch Ultra - And an Iphone 15 Pro Max Unnecessary? Absofuckinloutely yes! Why? Because I can
We peasants are what keeps the industry going. Most high priced products are really not worth the price nowadays. Name brands using cheaper materials etc. Know what you are buying.
I am not sure but I found an *Ontario Knife OKC Carter Prime* on Amazon for *$43.* It SAYS titanium handle and D2 blade, but it's hard to believe titanium ANYTHING at this price range. Can anyone confirm? This is weird... 😳
D2 corrodes, isn't tough, doesn't take or keep a fine edge. 14c28n, aebl/13c26, 10 aus, 9cr18, 8 aus, virtually any steel is going to be better than d2. If you are just learning to sharpen a knife d2 is a lousy place to start. 14c28n can be had at the same price and is better steel in all respects.
I stopped two minutes in to write this,,,, It does look like you actually read the comments on your videos..., but now your using a 25$ an hour job as your " Budget Build",,,you like the govt,,,are obviously not paying attention to the real world.....Most of the country is not making 25$ an hour,,,,2/3rds of that at best......from the real work world....
