I want to give you a great big hug and a hifive for sharing this! I live right by Houghton lake MI and can completely appreciate that the pretty pink on your face is from the weather we receive…. not a suntan! However, I hope you get a little time away to soak some sunshine up 😊💕 I have many perennials in my new gardens, I only somewhat recently moved up here and am just starting into my joyful journey of adding in annuals that I will start myself

I'm in northern Michigan zone 4 and I'm just now starting my seeds. I'm doing a small cut flower garden to see if it is something I wish to continue. Thanks for all the helpful advice.

Thank you for this video 🥰! I too live in west Michigan and am a hobby gardener. Yearsback, I tried growing seeds indoors, but failed miserably for several reasons. The knowledge you and other flower farm youtube gardeners have so graciously shared has me planning on starting seeds indoors again, armed with the info I've gleaned, and feeling much more positive that it will go better for me this time. So hard to wait for spring in our climate...all these darn snow/sleet/ice days of gloom really wears on one's soul when being outside playing in the soil under the sun is all that I want! Wishing you a great season for your farm 🤩

Awe wishing you a wonderful season ahead as well! Yes, these ‘false springs’ can be challenging but we’ll get there eventually 😉💛

Can’t tell you how excited I am to see this video! This is exactly what I’ve been trying to figure out the last few weeks. I’m not too far from you down in northern Indiana. Purchased your garden plan and am so excited to have my first cut flower garden this summer!

Hi I'm in zone 3 in Canada. I found starting my plants indoors gives me more control over their growing environment in the spring.

Yes, spring especially can be difficult! Glad you’ve found what works best for you 💛

I sow all my seeds indoors due to bird pressure. The extra time it takes to even start all successions of sunflowers indoors is a small trade off for the lack of weed and pest pressure we have. The large bird population not only takes care of weed seeds but also baby slugs and a variety of other bad bugs. My flower beds are surprisingly problem free thanks to the birds. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Sounds like a fantastic trade-off! Especially if they're taking care of the slugs for you ;)

Thanks so much for another helpful video. I’m in the same zone as you so it’s really helpful. I’ve been gardening all my life but it’s my first year growing annual flowers for business. My question is, I’ve been soil blocking seeds for about a month and everyone says to not start them before the recommended time on the packet. But, I’ve noticed on videos, you and others sow well before the recommended time. Do you plan to pot them up? Otherwise, won’t they be too big or do you plan to row cover them? I also started winter sowing, some as far back as February 20th. I don’t see any signs of germination yet. Even though the days get in the 30-50° range, the nights are still in the teens. In contrast I don’t see any flowers in my perennial beds emerging except for some iris. Nor do I see any activity in my tulips. Is it still too cold?

I'll agree with what everyone else is telling you- it's best not to start your seeds too far ahead of time as you're seedlings will likely run out of room! Even for me, it's still too early to seed any of my warm season flowers. What you're seeing in this video is me starting my cold tolerate stuff- hardy annuals are a little different than the tender annuals we plant during the warm growing season. In terms of your winter sown flowers + your bulbs, I'd encourage you to have patience, these type of flowers are always on their on schedule. Often it feels like they take forever to show up- and then almost overnight are in bloom :)
