Hello Friends! I liked these stays so much when I made them in black that I decided to make them in white! My viewers said that I should go ahead and make these now, while the memory of making them previously was still fresh, so I did! I applied some lessons learned to these and learned some new lessons while I was working. I get through the boning channels in this video (as well as a whole bunch of chats, for those of you who enjoy that sort of thing), and will hopefully finish these in the next installment!

There is an aesthetic to linen that just goes with the type of garment. And I always find that a good ‘clear out’ of any space in the house before I start a new project helps me clear the brain.

I've been really loving Nichole Rudolph's wardrobe she's working on for the cruise, but I've been collecting patterns and materials for a 1918 mini wardrobe, I've decided I want to work in some secret pants with that. okay crazy maybe but I'm working on it. need a chunk of handkerchief linen for some of the underpinnings I think. I too am not big on the bridgerton train. they Them, my daughter got snappy with me for saying I think titles should all be gender neutral, because your titles have nothing to do with your gender, and the only person who needs to know your gender is your significant other. she tried to say I was being like JKR, so I'm feeling pretty abused on that score! I've gone by MS for as long as that has been around for essentially the same reason. anyway. all the news that's fit to print! Loving the stays!

re: the "SIr or Madam" dilemma, there is also no gender neutral English equivalent for aunt/uncle or niece/nephew. We lucked out with singular they, but there is a lot of linguistic rewiring left to do. Thank you for mentioning this, it is always nice when people notice. 😊

"Hate watching" is honestly the most relatable. Thank you for giving that phenomenon a name! Also, thanks for sharing your brain waffling between "should I" and "I want to", regardless of where you end up, it's nice to see the way other people's brains work too. Lovely to keep company with you, as always.

It looks great so far! And the erasure of the boning channel markings with the iron is soooooo satisfying. I’ve been binging One Topic at a Time’s YT channel with all of his reacts. They make me feel better with the world because OT is so wholesome. Also related to your sir-or-madam comment, one ladies-and-gents alternative I’ve seen on his channel that I really liked was “friends and enemies”.

Enjoy your trips! ❤️ I'm also working on this pattern for a pair of white stays, so I am saving this video and paying very close attention. Evidently, I need a light board to trace things. I used some tracing paper, but it had gotten squidgy on me. Also, the use of Washi tape is GENIUS! I'm only on my mock up stage because I work full time, but I am definitely taking all these great tips as I move forward and make my actual stays. ❤️ This video was very timely for me, so I thank you very much. ❤️

Hahaha well I did multiple tests where I stuck it in the freezer for different lengths of time up to 24 hours and not one single line has ever come back for me. Also, if your stays are on your body and the lines come back, you have way bigger problems than that!

I watched Bridgerton last time and binged this season. It is 'hot, hot, hot' this time. I don't look for authenticity in this show. It's fantasy watching for me. There were some scenes where serious acting was needed and it came across very well done. I watched Karolina's video review and agree with her the costuming and the fantasy approach. The scripts this year, to me, seemed much better. Your stays are coming out really well. Yes, it was fun to watch all of the lines disappear when you ironed them. Glad to hear that cottille (sp?) is not an absolute when making them as that is to expensive for me. Surprised to hear that you are thinking of going on the cruise as when I asked the question in an earlier video, you had said that the time period was not for you. Happy you are considering it now as it would be fun just to be there! We can't afford much of anything right now, so it won't be happening for me. Hoping it will for you. I understand that the cruise lines are going overboard (!), on keeping everything clean and the air is being exchanged all of the time now. Thanks for all of the knowledge you shared on this video. Makes it seem possible for me. Hugs

@@Costuming_Drama I watched the video with Dandy and he said it's not strict. People can wear period pieces if they aren't into vintage. That might make it easier for you, plus he said to bring mix and match pieces so packing isn't overwhelming. He is going to be playing music from the early 1900s on up...mostly jazz/swing style. You already have shoes the best height for that kind of dancing!!! Also, for a more 'you' look, a crew neck sweater with a men's collar shirt underneath would be perfect. I'll bet you could find some at Goodwill. Just a thought. Good Luck!

I am so not in the league of the level attained in these videos, but I find the sewing both calming and entertaining. It also helps instigate a teeny amount of creativity in me. When I score a buried treasure at thrift/recycle places I am thrilled. There are so many garments that are too long or too wide or bedazzled by seemingly thousands of people or have buttons that somehow have negative charisma. Seeing the "good bones" hidden amongst the chaos always gives me a boost. Just watched the first episode of Moon Knight (Disney+) and LOVED it. Sadly it is being released as one episode per week (Total of 6 in season). As for Outlander, after 2 seasons I got a bit played out with the concept. Being curious though I caught up with some of the high points on You Tube of all places. These videos are short (5 - 6 minute) segments, that can basically take you up-to-date without the pain of long plaintive looks, some whining and people becoming overwrought in multiple timelines. Admittedly Outlander is the definitive guilty pleasure.

Hah, you got married the same year I did! Happy Anniversary! Every time I say something like, "I should take this apart and redo this one small thing so it fits better", it never happens. Except that one time where I got the armpit gussets in wrong and had already felled the seams. It was uncomfortable so I fixed it. But if it's "good enough" ... nope. I kinda want secret pants now too... but first, there's a stack of workpants that need repairs, and I still have to cuff and hem a hooded robe with capelet that I'm making for a friend... I made my husband stand in it so I could check the hems after I hung it for a week because there are two seams which have bias-to-bias, when I hung it I was pretty sure one side was longer than the other but when I levelled it off, it's about the same now. ...and I'd been thinking about getting one of those Frixion pens... 44:00 has made that a certainty... even if I just draw shit on something and iron it to make it go away... I kinda wanna watch Outlander for the costuming but I read the books when they came out, and that is NOT Jamie. One episode was enough.

Wow, stays look so scary and complicated! Kudos and huzzah to those that put that together! I hold on to my obi. It's so simple. No boning. But, just like corsets, you don't want to tie it too tight. I have a vertebra in my lower back that pops in and out due to tight…tying?? Yeah, we'll go with that. Lesson sorely learned. That cruise trip sounds so nice. Nicole has been cutting out dolls and started to put her outfits together. She made gloves! I want to make gloves, too. Totally lost on drafting. I'm a silly beginner. I probably couldn't go because Japan still has her boarders closed. If I go out, they won't let me back in. So frustrating. I want to see the UK. All for the best. I looked at the cruise info. It looks like a lot of fun. If I had funds to take adventures like that, I would. I have quite a few family members who have taken cruises this year. They are fully vaccinated, boosted and wore masks and they have had good cruising experiences despite the virus situation.

Spent last Saturday in costume with a great group (19th Century Sewcialites) at Shibden Hall (where Anne Lister lived) - its a lovely spot too and we were so lucky with the weather. And don't worry about getting stuck in the U6 - always a spare room for you here in North Wales - complete with tuxedo cat to stroke 😀 Currently reading Queen Elizabeth's Wardrobe Unlock'd researching late Elizabethan dress for a complete costume - first foray into this period. Have fun with Gigi.

Sir and Madam and perhaps Esteemed quest? Chief? Your Majesty? Your Highness? Royal friends? More words needed I am currently watching Reacher, which has been really good; detective-action-some comedy bits. Also really difficult to not talk about because my mom hasn't watched it yet. So all I get to tell her is "its good so far, the guy was shirtless # of times this episode". She is very excited for those scenes, lol. I want more detective scenes.

Yes but the honorific is for when I am being snarky so those don’t work. I don’t actually say “sir” or “madam” I say “BLAH BLAH BLAH SIR OR MADAM” regardless of which one they are… so I’m looking for what works there 😂🤣

I was thrilled to hear that you have downloaded the Rivers of London, if you have the audiobook, the narrator, Kobna Holdbrook Smith, is fantastic. The latest book is coming out next week and I will be attending an author event at Toppings bookshop in Bath the week after. If you go to Bath again, you should pop in to Toppings, it is in a beautiful Georgian building near the Abbey.

The stays are coming along nicely; I can't wait until you dig into that gorgeous silk. About the cruise, you're doing the right thing by giving it a good going over before making a decision. But, it really sounds like a fun trip, I have been watching Nicole create her wardrobe and each piece is a work of art. I have been watching Hinterland and The Chelsea Detective on Acorn TV. xoxo's Sandie

We just got back from Universal and I was horrified at how many people they let in in one day. I mean we bumped into people all day, it will be a miracle if we don't get covid. I just don't understand letting sooooooo many people into an area at a time with stuff still going around. Anyway, we know now not to go at this time of year lol. I have a feeling we're all getting the itch to get out but there's a responsible way to do it. SSSOOOOO glad to be back in my shell lol

Captain is a fun alternative for sir/madam, I've got friends who call me that and it's chill and silly and wonderful! I got into costube because I'm trying to teach myself how to make menswear that fits my hips and gives me a more masc shape, and it's very cool both how trans-inclusive a lot of costubers are and how sewing techniques I see y'all using on super femme stuff like stays translates to menswear!

Yes! Captain is awesome! I, as you can maybe tell, and not very femme in my daily life, so that’s one of the things about this dandy trip is I’m gonna try and find a way to have at least some of the clothes be more “me”. If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears!

Go on Dandy’s trip! Do it! I am booked with my husband and our kids. I have no vintage stuff and I’m making my own things that I want to wear. Maybe I’ll make the vintage 1990s era titanic dress pattern I have. The voyage is going to be so fun! A week is going to fly by. Planning this trip has given me hope and something to look forward to after missing out on so much the last 2 years. I think things are going to be okay by October, not yet normal but okay. I’ve been watching a lots of videos on ocean liners and I think the Queen Mary 2 is special as it is the last one and cruise ships are not the same experience. Look up Emma Cruises recent video on the QM2.

Totally with you on being not sure how to feel about travelling. I had a cruise scheduled for April 2020, so obviously that didn't happen! Rescheduled to April 2021, so that didn't happen either. Now RE-rescheduled to September this year. Part of me is so excited at FINALLY being able to go somewhere, I've really missed travelling. But the other part of me is all 'Ew, people, ick!' Hopefully by September both I and the plague will have settled down a bit more.

This week’s been a lulu. My neurological equivalent of Hailey’s comet hit while on the back of a horse and while I’m safe aside from after effects of the medical episode. I’m angry cause it occurred on my one day a week I actually get to decompress. As a result I also don’t remember much but, I’ve been rewatching animaniacs. I repaired some 60+ yr old suspenders I inherited when I dropped weight that had snapped threads on me the other week. I downloaded a pattern for a 1890s shirt and most excitingly my Easterseals disability film challenge crew had the first production meeting this week and I’m going to be making some awesome graphics for a really cool story folks will enjoy

Another wonderful video!! It is always such an enjoyable watch. Happy belated Anniversary. I am so disappointed with the Audio book I was listening to during your last video. Not because it's a bad book, I am thinking of buying it and reading it my self. But, because the reader happens to be the author. And while I adore the author and enjoy his podcast...I don't think he has a voice for audio books. It was tough to the point that I stopped listening. So, I went way back and started the Mayfair Witches. Especially since they are working on a TV series based on the books. I thought it would be great to refresh my self with it. And this time I would just listen. So, fun times. Hope you're having a great time. 👍🏽😊

Like a lot of people, I'm watching "Our Flag Means Death". I have to take breaks, because I get embarrassed. The show's pretty balanced, so I haven't noped-out on it. I definitely can't handle Outlander. I'm nervous about all sorts of travel these days. I can't even daydream about places to go, because the prospect of psyching myself up to deal with misbehaving people was hard enough pre-covid.

Hello Noelle! As someone who is on oxygen and hesitant to travel. I understand completely. I have been on two cruises, going on my third, since February. {I am blessed with travel this year} Despite the cruise lines taking away the mask mandate, I still wear mine and am conscious of handwashing/using sanitizer and both were enjoyable. I say, go if you want to. Just be conscious of it! I'd LOVE to be going on that trip but I am not. For the most part people were great on the ships, some were still wearing masks when they repealed and some weren't. No one was getting into anything with those of us who opted to. *Edited to add: If you are interested in Bridgerton but the show was ... too much ... I HIGHLY recommend reading the books. As a person who couldn't make it through the first episode either, the books were very different.

Just started Out Flag Means Death and Guilded Aged. I’m enjoying both so far. I’ve got the Nevers and Gentleman Jack cued up next. I get it about the cruise. I’ve considered it, however I have a lot of life stuff happening right now and *might* not be able to get away to another country for that length of time. That and I have been unable to convince any friends to join me. I know I’ll make new friends there, it’s less appealing to put in the effort without some built in travel buddy(it’s). On top of the possibility of needing to cxl the trip due to life/COVID stuff. All this to say, I fully understand the debate of it. Lastly, I love me a good day of video gaming.

Multiple videos are good! I like seeing the details of how the construction works, as well as hearing your decision-making process. How did your scissors hold up? I think the best solution to the "sir/ madam" dilemma is to skip those terms for everybody. "Excuse me, you left your bag behind" or "Hello, I just wanted to tell you that I like your hat" are both perfectly polite; there's no need to add a ma'am or sir. I finally finished the shawl with the yarn my sister gave me for Christmas; I love the way it came out. Now I'm working on knitting a short-sleeved top in a cotton/ silk blend yarn. I'm also designing a tatted neckline embellishment for a plain black linen tee (I think I may have mentioned this last time), after not finding any existing pattern that looks the way I want; right now I'm working on a rough draft of it and can see a few changes I need to make. I don't have anything very exciting that I'm listening to or watching at the moment. Happy anniversary!

I skimmed through and didn’t see this, so hope I’m not repeating, but with the order of operations dilemma re: marking boning channels and ironing seams: if you accidentally erase frixion pen with heat, you can usually get those markings back by throwing the object in the freezer for a couple of hours! I learned this in the bullet journaling community, where “I left my journal in the hot car and now all the writing is gone!” was a regular post topic in summer. I’d test it before I wholly relied on it, but maybe something to tuck in your back pocket for next time!

I love the linen look, too! I think you made an outstanding call with that. The ironing away of the Frixion ink was 👌🏻!! Who knew ironing porn was a thing? 🤣 I also have to admit to being an overgrown twelve year old as I snorted audibly when you said “Bone Bottom” and “Bone Top”… snicker! 😂 My actual last name is Bohn (pronounced Bone) and I still laugh about that, too. I hear you on the cruise. I’d give my eye teeth to go, but being disabled and immunocompromised puts a damper on these things. As fastidious as you are, I think you’d be fine, but if you don’t feel comfortable or safe, it’s really hard to have fun. I have my fair share of anxiety, too. I’ll send some good vibes your way, just because. I’m still reading everything about spinning! Someone tried to get me into Outlander, recently, with the books, but I’m having a really hard time getting into it. I just don’t think it’s my thing. I’m also reading (I’m terrible…5 books going over here) A Short History of the World According to Sheep by Sally Coulthard, which is a really interesting look at the evolution of our relationship with wool and other ovine products. I’m now the proud owner of a 125 year old spinning wheel! She’s in beautiful condition!! She needs some love and attention before she’ll spin wool, again, but she’s been in an attic for many years, so it’s understandable. A little Murphy’s Oil Soap, and oil for her moving parts, and she’ll be right as rain! I’m so excited!!! Have fun with Gigi, and in New York!
