Starting my Cat D2

I have a Cat D2 from around 1960. In this video I show how I start it. It is not always easy. It can take 30-45 minutes by the time you get everything ready and fight to get the starter engine (pony) running. The hour meter shows about 200. Who knows how many times it has turned over? But it just keeps on ticking year after year.

Good to see a pull start even though it looks like it has electrics. I have found one good pull with the pony compression valves helps clear out any of standing oil.

I had a 41 D2 and used to pull around a 10' double gang disk

I pull a 7 ft double disc. With a 10 ft I think I would always be in 1st or second gear.

Just Subscribed. We have a couple of D4 cats. They have the same pony engine as yours. One is a 7U D4 and its not much count. We have a video about it on our channel

My pony is always my worry if it will start. I'm getting old & it's harder to pull the rope. It has an electric starter but I have never used it. The diesel always starts ok
