Law I think you should drill some topsoul stalls! Might help with getting the lock down.

The trick is to roll your skates all the way up to the coping and just “paint” your soul foot on top of the coping(in the words of josh Acosta). You’re just pulling your soul foot off the ramp way too early, and that makes it much more difficult to lock, and also throws your weight over the deck. If you keep your wheels on the ramp all the way up, you’ll only be inches away from locking the grind, and your weight will be over the transition. That way if you miss you should just slide down the ramp consequence free. Hope that helps! 😊

I also have a hard time in ramps. Will use this info next time at the park

I try this, and I do so with my Soul, but if I try with topsoul my front foot gets in the way. So should I pick up my outside foot first, then one foot roll up the coping?

@@BacktoBlading Carving harder so you are more parallel with the coping is a good start. Scary at first but you'll adjust easily I'm sure. You're more than good enough to get it!

I agree roll all the way up & barely lift helped me. Also one thing that can be a game changer is to treat the topsoul like you’re going to do a no grab fishbrain, roll all the way up lock the topside foot first while staying over the transition just allow your front/lead foot to roll along on the deck with most all your weight on your topside foot, you can even sorta put pressure on the rolling foot as if you’re trying to push the deck away from you, sorta makes you stay over the transition. Keep doing it over & over, you can even start picking up your rolling foot while sliding to really get that feeling of being completely on your topside foot or you can pick up the rolling foot while sliding on your topside & place it in position part way through. Eventually put it all together & it’s all just timing, you come into the topsoul with the topside foot locking fractions of a second first before your front foot. You can start with more time in between let the topside lock & then 1-2 seconds set the front lead foot down on the coping. Eventually just bring the timing in tighter & tighter to where they are locking at the same time with the topside foot being fractions of a second before hand From watching it seems when people jump up to to the coping to early or lower on the transition it causes you to throw your weight up over the deck. Rather than allowing yourself to roll all the way up while carving then barely lifting enough to get up on the coping. Your front foot is on first & your topside foot comes in afterwards late & high just over the coping & on to the deck, leaving nothing to plant your weight on so it slips/slides out. I know you got em in you, it’s just a matter of time & practice before they become something close to second nature where you don’t have to even really think about it!

Top side: rather than sliding your foot across, bring the foot up and down onto the coping. And carve more, so your momentum doesn't take you out, but more across.

Found your channel a few weeks ago. Haven’t skated in probably 15 years and wanted to get back into something I enjoyed. Also wanted to use it as a fitness tool to get back in shape. Ended up ordering the THEM 909’s in grey and now waiting on the Compass 80mm frame I got off your site. Can’t wait! Thanks for the tips/info you put in your vids. Helped out a ton!

Nice inspiration. I feel the switch situation. Definetly trying the 180 tab. That looked good. For your topside soul try more staling and Feeling the lock on the soul foot
@art0nblades
@art0nblades 2 года назад
Yes, second that. In the miniramp stalling helps a lot to get the feeling of not overshooting but staying inside the ramp.

When working my "off-side" (turning the way I'm not used to) I eventually found that it wasn't just about learning to lead with the right shoulder, but that I HEAVILY favored putting my weight on my left food instead of my right. So when doing things on my weak side, from power slides to 180s to just riding backwards, even if my feet and torso was in the right position, I was still awkwardly trying to put more weight on the left foot in times where I needed to be comfortable just loading up the right. Drilling normal stuff but with my foot in opposite positions (trailing with my right instead of my left) so I could get comfortable with it being my "planted" foot really helped me even out my left/right imbalance

I think we need to drop the idea of regular and switch, replace it with the Easy direction and the Hard direction. Learn both. So many people, myself included found one was easier and stuck with it... Now learning "switch" is super tricky.
@pockyboi6699
@pockyboi6699 2 года назад
Everyone has a reg/switch dominant/non-dominant foot position but I think we could take a page from BMX definition of Goofy footed where someones foot positioning and bag of tricks no longer fits into regular or switch.

Feel your pain on Top Souls. I have a really hard time with them because although my left foot is my natural soul foot, my natural spin is to my right... it sucks haha!

I got padded pants too. But it might be cool if there was an area of skate parks with that rubbery playground matting under a rail or ledge.

I think leading with the left foot in front on the right turn carves is the missing piece here. you started leading left on the backside stall, it should make it a lot easier to carve and drop the right shoulder a bit.

This was really weird to watch! I've never noticed that you've been one-sided on ramps before... And it's so weird because you're so amazing at aggressive compared to me (mostly distance skater) but even I can turn both ways on a ramp 😄. Best of luck ingraining that new muscle memory!

I'm literally on the same level right now re learning coping on how to get on top of it. Though I do have one question. Are you ever going to release the chroma anti rockers again? Currently setting up a bladies inspired skate, And I can't find any of the pink anti rockers anywhere. The color way is going to be black, rose gold and bubble gum pink with the bladies wheels.
