Today I START BUILDING MY NEW LEGO CITY! The tables easily consumed ALL of my modules! That includes downtown, residential, mountains, zoo, campground, medieval, winter village, amusement park, and much more! There is still so much room open for the taking... it is wild! In this video, I move all the LEGO off the ground and onto the tables and start constructing the new city layout!

It was hard to judge the scale of the tables while you were building them, but seeing you walking around them with the camera stationary on the other side of the room really emphasizes how big they are. Can't wait to see what you do with this massive new layout going forward.

If you put the mansion on its own island, you could have a second island with a huge pirate fortress and place pirate ships in the water around it. Or build a commercial dock on its own island and connect it to the mainland with a suspension bridge. So many possibilities and so much space! So looking forward to the future of the city!

I love the idea of mountains in the middle that you can build on. I definitely think you need some differences in height for buildings and roads. One thing that occurred to me is that you could put mountains at the far end with back’s open so you can do underground landscapes in it - like a big cave full of plants and trees, the Goonie’s ship model, a buried Delorean from back to the future, some miners, some trains zooming through tunnels. A little cave with Golem in it, an underground scientific base, some lava for a volcano. So from above the mountains would look like a t-shape with the top of the t by the back door. Then you could put the ninjago temples and castles on the back mountains so you could see them from the balcony

I would put the mountain at the far edge that way it does not take up a lot of space and would make an awesome backdrop when you are coming down the stairs, have some residential at the base of the mountain leading nto the downtown core you could then do some country side on one side and the other could lead up to the beach area and the space where your Lego is on the floor eventually could be where the island can be put on a table extension.
@TomCoates
@TomCoates 2 месяца назад
Yeah I think this would be a good idea too. Plus if you did that then you could have the back of the mountains open for underground dioramas (batcaves, underground forests, goonies ship etc)

I feel like the mountains in the middle will take a lot of unnecessary space, maybe you can have a corner for the mountains beside the snow area, or a small part, but not the whole mid section since that’s a lot of useful land area

Mountain in the middle would look the best and plus he added a ton of space to the city so filling space with large areas will help fill it in until he gets enough Lego to actually populate the whole area. He has a lot of space to fill

Hi Bricksie. At last the day has arrived! We are off on a trip to Bricksie World! The sky's the limit now and I think you need time to look at all your buildings and the space, and build your dream your way. Everyone has his or her ideas of how it should be, but only you have the budget, sets, pieces and creativity to make it happen your way. All the best as you begin this journey.

I hope you eventually have a railway network going through the different areas including the countryside, and be able to stick a GoPro or something on said train. I'd have put Downtown in the back right corner so that when you're walking down the stairs you get an unobstructed view, but I've no doubt you'll nail the layout when you conclude the final layout. The residential zone might give a nice break going from Downtown towards the countryside though. I also hope you put in the airport, space permitting. Overall it's looking amazing.

Looking great Bricksie! I'd push the downtown core back , along with the beach which would come into the middle. Then add at least 2 base plates of ocean transitioning to deep water right up to the front. More blue at the front and a longer beach adds great colour. Add a jet ski, some boats, an oil rig, some dolphins jumping etc. Then build your new boat yard in the left front corner where the lighthouse and beach are currently. And the mountain against the back wall. The view of anything behind it would be blocked if it was in the middle and as others have said, it would make a great backdrop.

Idea for the Mansion... On the surface this may seem like an insane amount of bricks but you are bricksie so why not throw this out there. What if you set the mansion on an elevated platform on the side of a larger hill. The mansion could overlook the city and you may even have more luck integrating it directly with the city. Because it's on the hill and set back, the scaling should look pretty good too!

The city needs to be near residential- Residential near amusement park- Amusement park near zoo- Zoo near campground- Campground near beach. This will keep your buildings near, and your natural near. The zoo campground and amusement park can be one place technically with camp ground lodging. Then the campers can head to the beach! The residents to the park or to the city.

Absolutely fantastic start! Since there’s plenty of space, I'd suggest reserving an entire row of empty base plates as water bordering on the beach, and grass land bordering the forest. I think it would frame those spaces in a more natural way. And as a bonus, it would fill up empty spaces for now that you could very easily take back when needed later on.

The big day has arrived! So happy for you...all that time, effort and the frustrations you encountered were absolutely worth it! Now that we see the space available...a suggestion or two? This might be the opportunity to put the beach, amusement park and midevil villages together as one destination? An amusement park with a midevil themed area? Also I would just go ahead and build an attached extension right where all those sets were on the floor. You have the melamine and the wood leftovers...that way the mansion, the airport and ski resort are all in the city and not separated from it? It was a while ago, but I was the one who suggested the blue H on the hospital 😂😂. Love the city! All my best to Josie(sp?) And the kiddos❤

Love all the progress you’ve made! It’s looking awesome! Just a suggestion, but you could put the downtown in the middle of the tables, put the mountain on the left back corner, surrounded by a small forest and camp ground/cabin, the medieval are could be near the mountain as well, the amusement park on the right back corner, the residential area could surround the downtown area (like a normal city), and the end nearest the stairs could be for the beach and train yard.

Looks good to finally have the Lego on the tables. One thing id have to recommend, you could varnish the 2x6 legs to make them more consistent with the 4x4 legs, woukd definitely help with my OCD haha. How id plan out the city, start with an outline of the montain, then decide where rivers are going to, then major features like downtown, amusement park (which i would love to see next to the medieval village), snow biome, ninjago city, harbour with a train yard. This way you can add little features between them connecting segments with residential, park and green life, the zoo, and connecting train track and roads. Gonna love the end result regardless.

Wow, this is coming together wonderfully! When you first started this, I could not get a good perspective of just how enormous that place is. But now that the tables are created, the tops are finished, and you’re placing the buildings...... The amount of space you have now is crazy big! I know you probably do not want to do this but, as a mild suggestion, maybe run a partial wall down a small section of the center of your tables and place the mountains up against that. You have the extra wood, and you can paint the center wall the same as your building walls.

Yeah, the city is from the floor on top of the tables! Now the fun thing with lego is back for you. You have so much space now to place it everywhere. First video of the city tables seen and man is thing impressive! You must be going all out on this versus your previous version. I think the downtown area should be a bit more inland with something surrounding it, maybe the beach, or parks maybe. As you pointed out, it is the tallest part of your city, and from the stairs you cant see the amusement park very well behind the skyscrapers. Of course thats not the finally layout of the downtown area too as you mentioned. Maybe you could elevate the amusement park more so it can be more visible too. I personally love where you put the beach. I think that corner of your city is pretty finalized. I am curious though, you kept mentioning a boat yard and it got me wondering, would a harbor or river be a great idea more towards the center of the city, closer to the downtown area

Congratulations on reaching U'r goal of establishing the new & improved lego city....I agree with U on where the beach is & the mountain with a water to stream down into a harbor where Ninjago city & shipyard could be located...also I was thinking U'r trains could travel along the edge and branch off towards one of the access holes to make way for a unique tunnel ( for subway as well), to connect to another portion of the city or rural zone....if U decide on an airport, might I suggest a table similar to the mansion except a little closer to overall table in order connect via a unique extension bridge 🌉 which would be another outstanding feature of the city...what I truly look forward to is seeing U take U'r next steps in custom creativity & I thank U for sharing all of this with Us, what a fun ride😊

Love the Lego city has a surface to live on vs being on the cold tile floor. Great work as usual. Seeing the overhead shot from the stairs, I see most the table legs seamlessly disappear into the shot but the additional support 2x6 lumbar legs you added seem to stick out visually more due to its tone. Would you consider staining or painting those legs so it gives a more consistent visual look from that particular shot angle?

Half the table (sections under city) could have subway. Countryside sections under sea could have some underwater stuff and maybe caves and mining. Could also be in mountain too as a cutaway on back side? Also you can definitely make some islands out of space closer to stairs away from the corner of city with beach. Mansion..aka private island. I would push the campground away from the beach more and insert the boatyard there with some deep water for the big boats then the beach into ninja go then into the city. As for the city, I like the historic looking buildings together, then more modern and eventually the high rises. Id put the residential district toward the middle like urban sprawl would be. I love the mountain idea with the ski resort elevated as the snow would be at higher elevations. Id put the castles on a separate group of tables

If you are going for a freight harbor, it will definitely need an associated train yard, and it would probably work as a primary yard. You could then have a secondary yard closer to the city, and additional ones near any industries which would (historically) produce cargo, such as a farming area or a mine.

This looks so cool and should keep you busy for a while 😂 the downtown will need extra space leaving as it will expand rapidly if you think about the increase in modular options over the last five years we went from one a year from creator expert to multiple across Bricklink designer program, icons, marvel and Mocs. One idea I thought of (and sorry if you had already thought about it) on the access holes would it be possible to rig up some kind of sliding drawer system that sits under the table and slides across when the holes aren’t in use for example just some water effect baseplates and just a few bricks down the inside edges to blend it all in and look like a lake but I guess the holes need to still function for what they are for.

it's very exciting to see it all on the table. I think you're right that figuring out where you want the railways is the first decision. once you know where those go you have a framework and can figure out the railway stations and the roads for them - also if you want to keep the elevated lines (I would personally, they looked fantastic). My suggestion would be to run two central lines up the mountains - one elevated one that then provides a loop for the downtown, then one under the mountain at table-level that covers the countryside - you had a multi-level station before built into the raised platform. Then you have separate loops for the winter village and the amusement park which will be at the back. And after that you were looking at a subway? I'm not sure if the downtown might be better a little further back - I was concerned it might block view of things at the back of the studio, but that won't matter looking down from above and really that corner isn't going to have a lot of long low views because it's up against the furnace. Plus it's very iconic of your lego city, so having it out front makes sense.

So, I haven't commented for a while on your videos because I was waiting for this one. The moment when you finally start your city in the new space and boy, this looks AWESOME! Not the city layout just yet, it looks awkward to see your old layout here but I can see the potential of this new huge table and I really can't wait to see more videos and how it progresses. It's clear that a lot of modification is needed to the existing city to make it fit on these new tables but I know that you'll be able to make it look great in time. As for making a mountain, yes please, I think the zoo is a great starting point and maybe just try to put the existing mountain plates together (the zoo, the Observatory, the Ninjago stuff) see how that works and then I don't think you'll have to take it all apart but you can adjust the build a little, which is less work. If that's not possible, at least you tried. But keep up the great work, I can't wait to see this city develop. Also with LEGO still releasing more modular buildings every once in a while. Oh, and one more thing, are you at all interested in making some MOC skyscrapers for the city? Like make some buildings yourself to create a bit of a skyline? I think that would look cool.

With a table that big, you really should invest in some third party wide radius curved track and associated points/switches for the surface layout. The difference between a train running around R40 and R104 is like night and day, and at speed looks phenomenal. It will pair beautifully with the massive straight-always you can now build. You can use the official R40 curved track for your planned subway which often rely on tighter curves anyway. And I hope we get to we you designing your own rollingstock!

Loving the thinking out loud about the planning process. 🙂A few weeks ago... maybe back when you were still packing up the old LEGO Room... I made a suggestion about using the forest area as a "Magic Forest" to incorporate the medieval display including the castles into the LEGO City. I guess the feasibility of that depends on how much else you want to include... there's also the mansion and the ski hill to consider... not to mention allowing for future expansion of the city. Edit: I posted my original comment before you talked about the medieval sets and the ski hill... elevated areas will definitely complicate things, as will leaving room for future modular sets that may be released, not to mention what you had to do to make things fit into the old LEGO Room. Your thought from last week about having the elevated areas in the middle makes more sense considering what you have to do to hide the structural work that used to be up against walls.
@jacksonstarky8288

The other thing you could do, hearing you talk about the additional display islands, is have a separate display island for the medieval area on the non-carpeted area, and maybe on the carpeted area you could do a smaller extension of the city area table space... which would probably affect the positioning of the beach area. But you have a ton of things to think about, plan, and rebuild, so I'll leave you to it. 🙂

Some thoughts: cities develop naturally through the ages, and where things are located reflect that. The ski slope should be integrated into the mountainside. The mountain could have a medieval castle on top. The architecture is fairly modern european looking and such a city would most likely locate the railway station fairly centrally. Railway around the edge of the table would look artificial. Trains are used to connect cities, so should be in/out. Trams of course are different and should resemble hub/spoke layout.

get some nice bright yellow shag carpet about a yard wide and lay down carpeted paths under the tables, make it easy on your elbows crawling around under there, the yellow will reflect some light.

Wow that's a huge building surface, i didn't watch for about 2 weeks, thought id just jump straight into this video instead of going back. It was hard to visualize just how big the area would be when talking about it with out them there, but now the tables in it shows how big it really is. That's going to be one crazy awesome city. Like 3x the size.

The beach would look good in that spot, I had a thought would you do like a highway from the main city that goes around the area?
@hlevolve

I would do the mountains like you are talking about and do the train into the mountain and have it come in/out maybe in a few spots so you can see the train(s) but it would take up much less useable space in your city for buildings that way and you could put a train station maybe in the downtown area and then another one at the other end of the tables to a small city or other area. Also might make sense to keep some of the taller stuff towards the center of the tables/mountain area so the views are better from the sides but thats w/e or maybe just in some general areas where you can have good viewpoints.

Hi bricksie! Awesome video! I was wondering (and maybe you mentioned it I forget) are you going to reintegrate the raised train line?? Thanks! Again amazing video and I can’t wait to see the new city! It’s crazy the size!

The tables definitely seemed to be big before, but when the downtown section of your city itself only takes up a quarter of your entire layout where it used to take up more like a half... that really puts it into perspective. You have enough room you could probably have a few smaller towns around the area if you wanted to! Man what I would give to have only half that space!

I like the beach where it is, it would make a floating island with the mansion work really well in my opinion. also like the idea of more than one body of water. love the progress!

Jordan, the size and scope of the new tables is AMAZING. It's not a 'city' anymore it's now going to be a sprawling METROPLOLIS. FANTASTIC can't wait to see you place and integrate all of your builds. Be safe and well!

Take my opinion with a grain of salt and do what YOU want. Just sharing my idea: I would keep the beach where it is but shift it back and give yourself some water space. And then the boatyard at the other end on the right side. Going back from the beach I would make residential and then back from the boatyard do the downtown. Back from the residential is where I’d put the campground and zoo and the amusement park back from the downtown. So then the mountain I’d put basically on that third long table and have the more fantasy-type sets behind the mountain. Like a hidden surprise. Like if you cross the mountain you go back in time to the medieval area or the Ninjago area. So basically the last table would be medieval and Ninjago.

This is very exciting. With the tables basically ready, finally the city building/re-building can begin! It'll be a ton of work, but that's the fun part of LEGO!

I'm looking forward to watching this come to life. My own city is only as big as the dinning room table with 6 folding tables surrounding the main table. I keep telling my sons, when they move out, I'm taking their bedrooms for my Lego. They laugh but I'm serious.

One of my favorite things about Lego is the temporary nature of it. Always expandable, always adaptable, always playable. It’s fun to try things, move things around, and improve on things. Thanks for sharing your process as you create.

Most cities sprawl out from the city centre. Would U consider having the downtown in the centre. Also Are you including an industrial area? Lastly what about covering the table legs with panels or even cloth. And congratulations on getting this far 😊👍

Looking amazing. I may have missed it in another video but do you plan a curtain around the underside of the tables to hide the legs? Always thought they let it down in the basement as they weren't painted white. Minor I know, but given how cool the new space looks it seems a little shame to have them exposed.

You can do the medieval area as part of the amusement park, like a Medieval Times part of the park. Or you can get creative and build some type of “portal” in the forest area that transports you to the medieval ages.
