This is an exciting update I've been thinking about for a long time! I'm so excited to have a sketchbook I can use to experiment and play and not take too seriously. I'm using the Talens Art Creation Sketchbook (13x21cm) and I'm really psyched to see what I'll create 🙌🏼
I can't wait to do a bunch of master studies and to just mess around in here. I have a big goal of painting 3-4x per week in March (which isn't always easy since I'm balancing a non-art-related/STEM job with my artwork!), so I'm hoping to break out my sketchbook a lot these days. I'm a bit intimidated by the fact that this sketchbook has 80 pages... but I guess it just means there's lots of room to play!

i love cream puffs! i love both of them but for surface design i actually love the second one! Sometimes small details don't come out on fabric, i sew so thats what i think of and with watercolour i feel like even less small details comes out!

Thank you! That’s definitely true. I really like the second version, too!

An awesome start of what I’m sure will be a consistent practice for you 😊. When I last sorted my studio, I counted about 38 sketchbooks on my shelves. Only about a third completed, mind you, but still. It’s a pretty addictive habit, sketchbooking😊. I can’t feel fully accomplished if I don’t create even a small entry on a daily basis. Looking forward to a full sketchbook tour! ❤

Wow, 38!! That’s amazing! I definitely love the idea of adding a bit to a sketchbook every day, and that’s for sure a habit I want to get into.

I feel like the one on the left is neat and tidy, and the one on the right is more dynamic, and they're both great 😍

Hey there! I'm also a Boston (suburb)-based watercolor artist/aspiring business owner! I recently left a STEM career (tech) to pursue my dreams of becoming a professional artist and pattern designer. Your videos are great! Your series on turning watercolor into repeating patterns was 👌🏻

Woah, small world!! I’m also not in Boston proper haha. I’m so glad to hear that my series was helpful 🥹🫶🏼

Go Sarah! You're doing great! Keep practicing your layers and brush strokes and you will notice soon great improvements! Btw, I also usually paint on cold pressed paper (pads). I recently bought a few sketchbooks, like you, and I am testing them out. I like to use pads when I am in the studio, but I love the idea of bringing a sketchbook with me when I travel, so I am playing now with different types of paper and techniques :) happy painting, Sarah!

🥹🫶🏼 thanks for your kind words and encouragement, Luisa!!! I’m trying to get in the habit of working my creative muscles beyond just painting and I’m really hoping that carrying a sketchbook around with me will help with that. I’m on a work trip right now and I brought my sketchbook with me, so we’ll see how it goes!!

There is a thing called the 80 20 rule. In art, I have found that 80% of the image is completed in the first 20% of the time. Then the details and fiddling take up the remainder. Your 10 minute sketch came out great. I would double that time to take the 'pressure' off, but still keeping you accountable for spending too long titivating! Your channel has inspired me to start with surface pattern design. So, please keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your process. Kind regards. Rob.

I’ve definitely found that to be true!! I think you’re right that setting a 20 min timer might be a good sweet spot. I’ll give it a try. Also, I’m so glad to hear that my videos have inspired you to get started with surface pattern design! That makes me so happy to hear!

Beautiful I don’t work traditionally that often. I’m a digital artist, but this makes me want to pull out some traditional supplies! Thanks so much for sharing!

Thanks so much, Priscilla!! It’s super fun to just play with my art supplies. That said, I’m really curious to develop my digital skills too!

Digital takes some getting used to, but then it is sooo portable and limitless. :) Lemme know if you have any questions. I'm still learning, but have done both Photoshop and Procreate. I prefer Procreate, but I haven't dove into pattern design much, and hear Adobe might be better for that. But either way, it's a blast. :)@@pepostudios

@@PriscillaCash I’m really excited to play with procreate!! I’ll probably use it in tandem with photoshop since I already use PS quite a lot 😅
