cool guy. When this car was launched in Brazil in 1992 it was a rage, everyone wanted one, it had a GLS and CD version with a 2.0 engine with 116 horsepower and a 3.0 engine with 165 horsepower.
C20NE was such a reliable engine, and non interference, so when cambelt snapped, you did not damage any component, put new belt on, and you are good to go!
A few of those GM engines were non interference units. The cambelt on my Nan’s old Nova snapped one day. Just ‘BLOOP’ and it cut out. A phone call, RAC came out, 10 or 15 minutes later, up and running again.
I have an Astra G here in Brazil with C20NE, it's an indestructible engine, it has a lot of power at low rpm, mine has 116hp, but at the end of its life, it reached 140hp, impressive for a 2.0 8-valve.
Here in Brazil this car is called omega suprema it is an icon here in Brazil, here in Brazil this car came with the 2.0 and 4.1 engine, this is a car that I would like to see you bring back to life, a hug from Brazil
Sweet memories of my 1.8 GL sedan steel gray. A car that I remember with particular affection for its incredible design, quality, simplicity and comfort. Among the few problems I had, the video reminded me of a strange defect in the heated rear window: after 7/8 minutes of switching on, the fuse box started to smell of burning and since the operating time was around 15 minutes without possibility of turning off, I had to turn off the engine and start it again. Once again thanks for the video!
I wonder if previous owners see these videos and say "You got my car running again, can i buy it back?" 😊 Great job getting this Opel back running and driving again! 👍👍
Usually previous owners are happy to get rid of them. :D But with one car I had this problem when i bought it, it was Isuzu Trooper Magic 2. When it was fixed then some people asked if it is for sale. :D
Here in Brazil we had it too, hahaha. It's called GM Omega Suprema, with 2.0 engines, 2.2 from the Brazilian Vectra B, 3.0 6 cylinders and 4.1 from our GM Opala / GM Caravan, only injected from the factory
12 years at the weather and pretty much everything works...just air in the tires, clean connectors, fuel and a vacuum and it's ready to go. these last 80s to mid 90s projects are the last ones to be capable of that. of course to make it properly reliable, safe and asthetically good, more work has to be done, but this was supreme
Sad to think about the automotive future, those 90s beauties real cars will be lost for ever ( only shity electric hibrid subs today), thank you again Mr Flexiny
This video brings back distant memories that I didn't know I had. Every exterior detail, the positioning of every switch on the dash. I grew up in one of these, so nostalgic. It's porbably a cliche, but they really don't make them like this no more.
Sold as a Vauxhall Carlton here in Britain, it was a rival to the similar sized Ford Granada/Scorpio of the day, with popularity roughly split down the middle. I’m a Ford fan but I personally really like the Carlton/Omega A, it was certainly a better looking car than the blob-like Granada Mk3 which basically resembled a Sierra in a fat suit.
And the Carlton came in a few cool trims and engine choices. I don't think the Granada could hold a candle to the Carlton. Not shitting on the Granada though, we had one, a 2.9 Ghia I think in white with cream leather and it squatted down when parked which was a cool feature. It was like a Limo.
@@Soulvex Oh yeah the Granada was a lovely car to ride in, super comfy and with the 2.9 it shifted too. Looks wise I just wasn’t too keen on the hatchback model but the later saloon looked a lot better. 😃 The facelift models from 92-94 were smart looking cars too. Sports models were where the Carlton won out, I love the Granada Cosworth but the Lotus Carlton? What a motor. 😎
Had two of these in my family when I was kid in the mid 90's, sedans tho. Father absolutely loved these things, and I remember all the long trips we did on the summer in these.
These were good cars I had a newer 2003 omega B with 2.2 16v petrol and automatic gearbox with 405,000kms before the rust killed the chassis. Engine and gearbox still working today in different cars.
Omega, also known as "O Absoluto" in Brazil where it was sold from 1992 until 1997 under the Chevrolet brand. This one (Omega Caravan) it was sold in Brazil too, but with the name of Omega Suprema, the Brazilian Omega Caravan It was often used as a hearse.
In 1994 -1999 i drove this car , the 2.6 a lot of features at the dash board panel ... Rear wheel , the 2.6 cc can touch 280 kmph ...But the parts import from germany in EURO currency ...SOO expansive Soo i convert to volvo 940 single turbo * LOCAL ASSEMBLE * in malaysia ...
I had just like this onw but in claret color, a '88 2.0i Caravan. That C20NE engine is indestructable. Although it has Motronic fuel injection, there was barely any vital sensors or actuators that could have prevented it to run. Everything that could make it stop, could fit into a small plastic bag (air flow meter, crank sensor, water temp sensor, ditributor cap and a fuel pump) and it was possible to replace everything on the roadside. But I have never stranded with it her. Once the starter has gone, but I could just give it push, hop in and jump start it in gear. The egine is of non interference, so if your timing belt breaks, no engine damage could happen. And it pulled nicely from 2600 to 5500 RPM. On my first longer journey I went from Hungary to Germany. After some 150 km the Check Engine light came on. The car didn't bother, just carried on, and on and on and 750 km later it arrived to the destination. And this car was hige inside although it weighted 1500 kg just like any mid size car today. I liked this car, but it had to go because it had no ABS.
Get an Omega B, like me 😀. It has ABS and you can still get the last reliable engine, the X20SE (95% still a C20NE). You just have to do some retrofitting as usually the X20SE comes with a "poor man's interior" (I took everything off an MV6 and retrofitted to the 2.0 8v)
Hi.. I have just spent about two years putting my Opel Omega A into good roadworthy condition here in southern Spain.... For those of you who still own theses great cars. Autodoc sells many many parts for them. and E Bay DE. is also a good source for the increasingly rare parts... Great car!!
I love when you repair the cars , it would be nice if you do the restorations too, they would be magnificent, I hope you find a lot of bmws to repair, I love them ❤️
We had these in Australia, sold as Holden Commodore. Engines were a 2.8lt and 3.3lt straight six, and 4.2lt and 5lt V8. Tough old busses. There were a few sold with a 1.9lt four cyl, but they wouldnt pull the skin off a baked custard pudding. They were a cut down 2.8 six ( itself no great shakes powerwise ) and went by the unfortunate name of 'Starfire Four'. Aussies soon renamed that to "Misfire Four".
Here in UK, it was known as the Vauxhall Carlton, as in Europe at the time, Opel Omega. When General Motors that owned both brands at the time, they commission Lotus to come up with supe up version and boy!, was it ultimate rocket on the road. The British press and media went haywire as normally do most times, with the UK Police, they said boy racers will go crazy. One test drive that appeared in 'Car Magazine' by then late Russell Bulgin put it through it paces and achieved a whopping 200mph+ on the German autobahn.
Well thank God Holden for fixing up all that was wrong with these opal vaxall cars , no 4cyl options in the VN Holden commodore , instead we got the much much better Buick 3,8 v6 or a 5 ltr v8 , this VN model really took off very well here in Australia, it was a much bigger car than the vb to vl models sold over 215,000 Holden vn models and it was also a Toyota lexan versions using the vn body but Toyota only used the v6 engine and sold less than a 6th of the Holden versions, these vn from 1988 were a lethal car that excelrated very had an strong and the v6 would go harder than the v8 did v6 auto would go from 0 to 100kmh in around 8 to 9 seconds very sharp car
1.8 to 3.6L was enough for most of Europe, the 2.6 was quite quick doing 0-100kph in about 9s, the 3.0 24v did 0-100 in about 6s and the 3.6tt in around 5s 0-100kph. I think Holden ruined them :)
@@andreasu.3546 They weren’t rebadged GM vehicles. Opel planned, made and constructed their own cars. GM just took Opel models and placed different badges on them.
In Europe they also had several straight 6 engines. Opel offered 2.6 and 3.0 L engines which had 150 - 200 hp, depending on the version. There were also sportier versions developed by the tuning company Irmscher, but the top of the range was the Lotus Omega with 3.6 L straight six and 377 hp, that thing was a raging monster!
the 1.8 Liter engines were also sold in Germany/Europe in the beginning of the A-Model 1986-1988: 18NV - 82HP/60kW E18NV, replaces 18NV - 88HP/65kW 18SV - 90HP/66kW E18NVR, replaces E18NV - 88HP/65kW 18SEH - 115HP/85kW for Sweden & Switzerland the S18SV was used, identical with the E18NV.
Cool vid! I have a question, what do you guys do with these cars? Do you sell them or do you keep them as a collection maybe or do you just move them to another place? 😀 Its cool to see these videos and PROBABLY learns me how to fix my Volvo Amazon I have at home.👍
Had one of these but with the 3.0 version.put about 410000 km on that car Before piston nr3 smacked the valves at 260+kmh (it had 441 hp) and cracked the top of the block in half
What are you doing with all these cars after getting them back to life? Are you selling them to customers? Scrapping them or dismounting them for parts? Cheers!
