"How to play Elite Dangerous: first things first... start crying. I dont mean a little whine, either. Start sobbing. Just get it out of the way. Okay. Good? Now, open Elite Dangerous..."
“Don’t be afraid, it’s going to be okay” Me whenever I see neutron stars, white dwarfs, thargoids, or anything else even remotely dangerous:So that was a fucking lie
"The Universe is a deadly place. At every opportunity it's trying to kill you" ~ Neil DeGrasse Tyson. This should have been the ED slogan from the start IMO.
I recently took into deep space exploration and I encountered a weird gas cloud with a bunch of alien crystals in it. That was a scarier experience than I've had with most horror games I've played.
You’re like. . .a Dad, who’s passing on his wisdom and knowledge to his children (us, the subscribers.) “They have an opinion that *does not matter*.” Perfect Dad right there.
@@LtRiot no literally, I almost wish someone would gank. I barely notice commanders, most interaction I've had is with the fuel rats. Sometimes I boost directly into the landing pad to see if anyone notices, but nope, not a peep
@@everinghall8622 if you want to be ganked: -go to Deciat (first engineer area) in open -get elite in at least one thing (go do road to riches for exploration), and go to the system that unlocks in open. The station there also has all ships, modules, and a (20%?) discount Basically go somewhere very popular in open play
As a brand new player, my eyes kinda glazed over about halfway through because of the information overload. Saving this to come back to it again, and again. Thanks!
@@isodo2452 I can't speak for him but I personally uninstalled the game a few minutes ago. You've got to have an IQ of atleast 150 and I'm probably around 80ish. It's a shame to because it seems like it would be a fun game. My ship just kept overheating and blowing up for no reason at all. I shrugged and decided to keep trying. Got me a mining laser and tried to to some gather missions. It kept telling me to switch flight mode or something so I did. Then I couldn't use the laser because I needed to switch flight mode. After around 3 minutes of going in circles, I uninstalled.
CMDR Arrok Trarr here. I've been an Elite game pilot since 1984. I listen to RU-vid videos and the like while at work. I just want to commend you sir, on a very well presented and informative introduction to the Elite Dangerous world. Any newcomer to the Elite game will benefit greatly from watching this video. Thank you for your community content and well done CMDR o7
This is precisely what I was looking for, thank you for the effort that went into this and how you've tried to understand what a new player wants to be focusing on when they start out. I watched a couple other guides before this aimed at new players but 80% of the tips were about checking out third party software, subreddits, discord channels etc, and as a new player I simply couldn't care less about any of that. I want to experience the core of the game and decide whether I enjoy it enough before I choose to explore deeper into the game world (or galaxy I should say 😅), and you seemed to understand that better than any other newbie guide I've seen so far. So again, a massive thank you from me, you've taught me a lot in a little amount of time without spoiling anything either 👍
I just bought the game on Steam, so I'll be starting over. So far I've just heard about ED but didn't have the money to buy it. But now it's on autumn sale, so I got it. It looked cool on videos, so I decided to buy it. At this point I'm hoping it will have at least an external chase cam like on "Galaxy on Fire 2 HD".
Yup, and ordnance vet that doesn't understand how smoke forms after space explosion. Extensive experience with underwater detonation, space explosion is similar.
I watched this entire video and was immersed the entire way through. I'm 10months late and 7 years late to elite dangerous but thank you. I will be looking forward to getting into this game
@@woodsy.2977 Great isn't it, I just bought my first cargo ship I think it was called the type 9, it was around 1mill in credits, looking to go into trading with that as by default its cargo holds 150 of whatever item I'm looking to buy, we are the green horns of the galaxy 😂 full of vets who've played for years
Dude, your explanations are so freakin' clear and easy to follow. I'm starting to get into ED and loving it, and your videos are making me feel way less overwhelmed.
@Sparkyjuice Gaming I play EVE as a Free to play non subscriber, so I can't really give you the full review. If you're looking for a gameplay that is similar to ED, EVE is not it. Both is MMO Space, but ED is more gameplay focused while EVE is more of a.. hmm spaceship commander strategic thing.. (you only give command to your ship) I don't know how to write review so.. If playing ED makes you feels like star wars pilot, EVE makes you feels like Star Trek Commander. That's the gameplay. For money making, eve is more complex, while ED focuses on the way you you mine stuff, EVE focuses on finding a good site. It takes hours of scouting for a good place, then you have to think about distributing it too. Thats for mining. For everything else I havent tried The combat is like, when youre playing a civilization games. You tell your ship what to do.
@Sparkyjuice Gaming Eve Online was awesome... It still is in a way.. it's really deep, but therein also lies the problem.. getting into Eve now probably won't let you experience the real Eve but it's capped f2p now so go have a look...
Now I have the problem I can probably write a review to Eve bc I have played it very much, partly as f2p, partly in the pay version (more ships, better skills,... for 10-15€/month, or free with ingame currency). But I have never played ED so I can absolutely not compare it either....
Fdev has announced that Horizons will be free and part of the base game from 27th October, so you could buy only the base game now and spend no extra money(unless you want some ship paint jobs that they will be giving people who already own it.)
I can’t wait mate. I’ve been playing for 3 weeks. No horizons. I’ve unlocked and A rated the Corvette. I’m doing so I’ve unlocked the permit for Sirius. That’ll make engineering a bit easier. I have just a few days to wait until I can buy the prismatic shields. All I’m doing now is making more units until Tuesday the 27th October.
Huh, guess I should go look at my liveries then. I didn't know they gave prior Horizons owners a consolation prize for being suckered into paying for it...
Lmao that's true....but for me it's cause i once made Eagle with speed engineer stat performance thrusters ...its roll and pitch speed is so ridiculously high i spin just like lunatic before able to stop even if i use radar
I spent my first month or so playing Solo before cautiously switching across to Open. Haven't noticed much difference so far ... although it sure is crowded around Jameson! :-)
This is an excellent beginners guide. Packed full of tips and information that would take 50 hours rather than 50 minutes to figure out. Everything was explained well in a way that new players can understand and with many added side details for understanding the why's and how's. Some people enjoy figuring things out for themselves. In huge and detailed games like this I just feel bogged down and like I can't get the full experience of the game until I learn more. This video answered a lot of questions for me as I only have a few hours of real play time. I feel like there is so much for me to try next time I log in and that i actually understand the basics of making money and traveling around to different systems. Well done! I'm happy to subscribe to this channel and play more ED!
got back into the game last friday, and i’m loving it! i have done the tutorials that frontier has provided in-game, but i’ve been looking for a youtuber to help me out through the game, and this was what i was looking for! awesome video dude you just got a sub !
I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one lol. Friendship is faster than the speed of light and transcends the emptiness of space. My space ship isn't powered by space-age sci-fi physics, it is powered by My Little Ponies, Carebears, rainbows, great friends, and the smiles of every child in the Milky Way lol.
On the Monkey World it is called the Fling Shit Drive. They have a Toiletstein-Flushen bridge and when your ship flies near the bum-gate, it is grabbed by an enormous paw and flung through space.
i have been playing this game for a couple of months now and although most of the things ive already learnt this is the most concise and understandable tutorial ive come across. i hope you have many more on specific parts of the game im all ears. Well done
damn this was so packed with information i didn't want to miss a second of it! well done. I'm a new player and the discovery of all there's to do in this game has been a lot of fun
Nice video... I’ve been playing a few days and had most of the basics down, but hearing someone talk me through it reinforced a lot of the basic functionality. Much appreciated!
Dude! This helped me so much! I absolutely adore games like this. I am actually studying to become an Astro-Physicist so having fun while learning at the same time is wonderful. Thank you so much for guiding me and many others on how to play this game properly.
@@Erenzilable I can imagine, you're a braver commander than me. The vague sense of dread that comes when playing on my old TV is enough to keep me going, if I start to feel comfortable at least I know there's a way to recapture that noob feeling of pure terror :)
best part of the game for me are weird space stuff. One thing is missing is the Music. It's rarely plays, having hours on mining around dusty asteroids only once a proper music triggered. Gave me chills lol, it should be more frequent than it is.
I made my first 700M by harvesting neutrons and black holes in the neutron star fields that are above and below the galactic plane. They're scary, but you get numbed from having death constantly looking over your shoulder. I just flew from the bubble to Jacques and sold it there. You can find the field of neutron stars with the filters.
Exactly the video I needed! I've just come back to the game after two years, and god damn I needed a refresher EDIT: Holding the A/B/X/Y buttons will show you your current command combos, super helpful
Please continue these types of videos. I recently just got this game from the steam summer sales and these videos help out soo much. Normally I wouldn't be able to watch a whole 50 minutes continuously but the style of this video made it so easy to watch it fully and enjoy it at the same time. Would love it if you continued these tutorial type videos. 😁
Watched this after doing the intro tutorial mission, and it all makes perfect sense. Great overview, thank you! Last time I played Elite, it was vector wireframe graphics on a Commodore C64. I couldn’t dock to save my life. I’m happy to see we have a docking computer now, but the PTSD from approaching the rotating rectangular opening is still present 😂
Man, I really like this video. I thought it was a few years old due to the chat about ‘Horizons’, but was surprised to see how helpful it was given that I’m not yet ready to begin my E:D adventure even after years of it being out. I really like your calm manner and informative videos.
You managed the trinity of being informative, engaging and funny all in one video, and your choice of clip for shouting out your buddy was great. Top tier tutorial, hope you're still making stuff as good as this one pal.
Lol i started month ago with 30 hours game play and i already know these all.....and even tho I'm playing old friends account..i already made few engineering jobs and all kinda stuff
Amazing video! So much information I'm definitely going to have to watch it again. Thanks so much for making this - it helps someone new, like me, immensely. So, very much appreciated! Definitely watching the rest of your vids!
12:26 My second time docking (using the docking computer) it flew me into the side of the station lmao.... When it happened I was on discord with my friend who has played this game since it came out and he was hella surprised and said it had never happened to him, First experience 10/10 lol
Started playing this on my Series X two days ago and this video really helped so thanks!! This game is so big and complicated but so far I’m enjoying it.
Thvideo is just perfect for me! I've got less than 10 hours into the game, and this was a great tutorial - very concise for those of us just starting out. Thank you, very much!
Great video - I started playing the other day, I've been watching so many videos for new players, reading guides, etc... completely confused. This is the first video that had a bunch of stuff "click" for me. Thanks!
When yoru supercruising, when you hti 7 seconds, move down to 75 percent speed ----- there is a control you can put into the game by going to the keyboard settings
Bro you are by far best at teaching this game to new players I tried the other youtubers videos and they spend 80% of their videos cracking jokes and not getting to the info. Thanks for this video.
Looks like the best time to get the game. Steam discount, great tutorial video.. I hope my old rig can pull this off. Thanks for a longer than usual video! Has anyone told you yet about the great voice you have?
just liking commenting and subscribe cause you deserve more recognition! Thanks for all these info, it's really hard to find videos that properly explains the game
Why am I watching this? I just bought my first anaconda yesterday. I already know this stuff yet you make it interesting to sit down and re learn it all for 50 minutes.
This helped me so much, ive been playing so long without knowing about the tiny radar destination thing I feel dumb just flying in different directions and going into freelook to see if I could find my destination
I'm sure it's been said and pendatic though it is... "livery" is pronounced LIV-ERY. Like "liver" the internal organ with an "ee" on the end. Not LIVE-ery. The more you know!
I wish I watched this when I started Elite. This has all the tips I learned over time packed into one video, like the 7 second rule and how to glide successfully.
Finally! A beginner guide that doesn't focus on telling me how to get to end game as quickly as possible. A video that teaches me fundamentals. I've learned so much from this video and it's like the 6th beginner guide I've tried. I especially appreciate the UI tips. I'm paused half way through the video to write this after you showed there are TWO mini maps. Mind blown lol. I don't understand why these other videos want you to skip to end game. I'm have a blast just being poor and doing crap cargo missions in my sidewinder. This video has already been immensely valuable. Time to finish it up lol.
CMDR Sepulcher, i'm reaching my 800h of gameplay and your videos were my first contact with ED knowledge. I really appreciate your racional and honest approach into things, it helped me find solutions for problems and avoid others in my CMDR's career. I also have an Explorer soul like you. Your content is very enjoyable, keep them coming please! This video is great, very complete for beginners and even i managed to learn new things. Thanks!
Thanks for telling me about that mini radar. I always hate jumping into a system and try to find the vector point to the next system. I usually find myself spinning and looking through the windows until I spot that yellow ring! Great information for starting commanders! O7
I put this game in my wish list months ago on Steam, and it came up free on Epic Games last week. I've watched a ton of video's and by far you have given the clearest information. Thank you for this.
Just wanted to say thanks for putting this together. I've always been super scared to get this game cos everyone says you need 1000+ hours of playtime before you can even download it, let alone play. But your explanation made it super accessible and I'm looking forward to finally getting into it 😀
This is a very good guide for beginners and there are a ton of guides out there. After 8 months on PS4 I'm switching to PC so I thought I'd give this a look. Elite can be really overwhelming at first and this does an excellent job of focusing on what you should know at the beginning.
Just came back to the elite universe after a 30 plus year hiatus ( played on the Amiga! ). Downloaded the Xbox version yesterday and lost the whole evening immersing myself into space time and the glorious graphics. . Thrustmaster Hotas on the way .... I have a feeling that I will be investing far too much time exploring the star systems. A really helpful video for a re-noob such as myself, ( I may even stop flying into stars! ☺️). Many thanks for taking the time to help new members of the community.
@@incubus1195 how was the learning curve? The game itself had a fairly steep curve however wasn't TOO difficult to get used to. Assuming it's the same as the game itself?
@@itsElv-qv5fy I thought the learning curve was steep, but manageable. Thankfully there is a wealth of info and tips online, which definitely helps. Alas, life took over and so I really didn’t get into the game as deeply as I would have wished. I certainly enjoyed it when playing though ( with the exception of running out of fuel 😂)
First time here because I'm interested in the game...but I had to like, subscribe, and hit the bell because THIS MAN HAS A NEARLY HOUR LONG VIDEO AND NOT A SINGLE AD!!! Dude is a wild animal! Just making long videos without concern to coins! I hope you get all of the subscribers and money now...ALL of it.
I've had this game for about a year in my steam library and finally decided to try it. It seemed overwhelmingly complicated. Thanks for making it a bit easier with this vid!
Just picked up E:D, this video has been incredible as an tutorial, I have picked up so much more understanding about general procedures then was given in the game training missions, especially with regards to ship HUD. Thanks for this, I'll check out other videos. Hope you have a guide for scanning too..
I just started playing last night. It was awesome. I took off and landed without using the landing computer thing like you said and it was awesomely stressful. The first time was a huge failure we don’t need to talk about it but after that it was great! Thanks for your vids.
Dude, are you an angel? This video was AWESOME, really, thanks. When i started ED for the first time i was so freaking confused and overwhelmed by menus, roles, modules, enginners, fsd, fucking 100 ships some better to do this and other to do that, svrs, where to go, what do to, HOW to do, combat, mining, missions, pirates, bounty hunting (pretty cool btw), LeVeLs Of OxiGeN ArE LoW, and even what the fuck does "o7" means?! It's Arma 3 all over again... Then i find THIS, this audiovisual miracle. You explain things in a simple, natural and quick way, like, 100% smooth. Totally effective. It's not like that i know everything, but now things at least makes sense to me. I'm not lost anymore, and more hyped than never to play. Awesome content my guy, just felt that i needed to thank you for this. I was watching tutorial videos of another guy that made a playlist of 37 videos explaining the game, and everything you covered here he took 10 videos to talk about, and still i left with many doubts Sorry for any grammar mistakes btw, still learning the language
Nice video for startets. Congratulations. I just want to add some things: 1.: If you are not able to see the exclusion zone in supercruse you are to slow. You have to be 0.15c fast. 2.1.: Switching between combat and analysis mode is a good thing. You can not get a fine for shooting in the no fire zone because you hit the wrong button while you are scanning FSD wakes. 2.2.: You need fewer firegroups. You can assign your scanners/miningtools in the same firegroup to the same buttons as yout weapons. A weapon will only work in combat mode and a scanner only in analysis mode. For example my fighting vessel has for combat mode the weapons and a firegroup for looting the engineering materials with drones. To use the scanners I would need one firegroup more. With the difference between the two modes I can live with only two firegroups because i also assign them to the weapons firegroup. I only have to live with the error message in the upper right info-screen. Keep up the good work! Commander Nikodemus
I'm coming back after 5 years, i played Beta but then ran out of steam by 2015 found the world empty and got kinda bored. Through lock down ive found myself trolling through the internet looking for a mmo and after a couple of weeks ive come to the conclusion that ED has changed a hell of alot in 5 years (not like some games i could mention) So i'm going back into the loft; Dust off the Thrustmaster Hotas and DL Horizon. Thanks for the video brought back alot of good memory's and it was nice to see the new implementations :)
