Hi always like your video just a heads up on the fire wall there is a three way valve/ filter its job is either to heat or cool your batt or just wast heat if nothing is looking for heat this is important to know there is a filter in that valve you should clean asap a dirty filter will give you alot of different codes and yes it is washable no need to buy anything I hope that is your fix all the best to you & your's . Carm out

I’ve been all over my battery (2012) with some of the same codes at 3 different times in the last 6 years. I even modified my battery heater and moved it outside the casing for easier replacement. I will hopefully make a video about it soon. From common word of mouth knowledge from fellow intense diy community, it seems the heater should have a resistance of about 72 ohms. If it reads closer to 78-79 ohms or shorted it could be the cause. The unit that powers it could also be at fault and you even have a code faulting the transistor. If you have the GDS software, you can monitor and test the heater performance data with that. The heater will run prior to charging in cold weather. This is important in your troubleshooting.

If I get into the battery I am gong to replace module and heater. Only want do it once if I have to do it!

I own a Prius. I had a Volt in one of my bays and I was blown away by how overly complicated the hybrid system is compared to my Prius! The Volt I dealt with had a bad hybrid #2 control module. I'm cool not seeing another one. I did not make enough money diagnosing that one.

Excited to see you work through the error codes! My son has a 2011 Volt that has recently had the "service high voltage charging system" error. Brought it to the dealer and they re-applied the Oct. 2021 service bulletin for the BECM. It seemed to fix the issue and he was charging again. Fast forward a few months and the error returned. I suspect, because he sits outside in some pretty cold temps while at college that it may have thrown the error but I'm not sure. I was able to clear the error with a scan tool which i was surprised by but I'll take it. Can't wait to see more videos.
@TheDisgruntledMechanic
@TheDisgruntledMechanic 2 года назад
Thanks for watching! So I have not reflashed the BECM as per TSB. That will be next. But I am pretty sure it is the Battery heater or the BECM itself that is the problem. If it is one of these issues it will require the battery to be dropped. This will happen in the future but possibly not the near future. And yes the cold does have something to do with it.

@@TheDisgruntledMechanic Does the vehicle charge the battery in Mountain Mode? That is one of the 1st things I tried. It did charge his so I guessed that the problem isn't the battery but something else.
@TheDisgruntledMechanic
@TheDisgruntledMechanic 2 года назад
I will try to answer your question with a video. The short answer is yes but the Volt is a very complicated vehicle to understand so just because it charges in mountain mode does not mean it will charge with the charger.

Very common on the 2011 and 2012 you might have to have the bulletin done again.

the service high voltage system warning is your coolant level got too low and triggered the censor, the only way to fix it is to reprogram in sps2. even refilling the fluid wont make the warning go away.

@@TheDisgruntledMechanic awe man I’m sorry to hear. The only trouble I’ve had with mine is the speedometer LCD went out. It’s taken the dealer over a year to get one in cause of “supply chain” they said. So I bought a used one on eBay and everything works except my mileage shows “----“ instead of numbers. So it’s better than a blank screen but hopefully the new one can come soon. Other than that, great car

I hope you changed out the 12 Volt starter battery. When this battery is old unstable with a high internal resistance. All kinds of codes will start to throw. I changed out this battery on my Volt and haven’t had a code thrown since.

What's wrong with this car is you have an air bubble stuck in the onboard high voltage charger that is below the right headlight. Make sure you add fluid only sold at the dealer to the small reservoir. Then turn car on and make sure left front coolant pump is running if not squeeze hose by charger to force fluid movement. There is a over heat safety switch inside charger that has this air pocket stuck on it.

The pump runs. Have checked that. Pretty sure from codes it is the battery heater not coming on when batteries are too cold. The code from that will keep it from charging also.
