I love these videos! Would you consider allowing the bearing to “dip” into a slot in the base and conceal the drive wheel and motor underneath? I suppose that would require woodwork, to create a little apron around the base, and matching the finish would be a whole thing. Enjoy the build!

Very good idea. I hope fully or half bury a motor sometime.

I'm looking forward to the videos, but why are you building in the case, isn't it easier to mount everything on a board that slides into the case afterwards?

Hmmm good idea. But I need the solid cabinet frame to hold the bearing up and also the tracks need supports from something that doesn’t wobble. (Also, I don’t always take the easy solution!)

Nice to see the start of a new project! Have you thought about salvaging parts from an old printer for the motor and drive gear? There are usually two usable DC motors in an old printer that are easy to take out, and that rubber wheel on a shaft is exactly what advances the paper. You just need to gear down the motor with a worm gear. If you know how to use a stepper motor, there's usually one in the printer as well. Here's a video of what you can find in an old printer that might be usable. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-asNlS5hvOTY.html

Hi Ian, Very nice. For my last sculpture I used 12mm Delrin balls and I love the quieter sound and the ball "action" is quite good. My source sells them in red and white but I dyed several of them blue using Rit Dyemore to color some blue and it worked wonderfully. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dAo9GpIjYl8.html Enjoy the build...looks like a fun one.
