I still miss my 1991 Golf II Diesel with the 44kW (60hp) 1.6 Ecodiesel engine. Easy to work on, and it never failed once. I loved the sound of the swirl chamber engines.
The one of these that came in my 84 VW 2-door...worn out. Had to cycle the glow plugs even in 100F summer temps. But still I gave me mid 40s mpgs. When I finally had to open it up after 6mo of ownership...well let's just say to measure the ring gap you'd be deciding on how many feelers to remove from the set. Have a taper on all cylinders w/ #3 being the worst. My compression was about 325-330....wet test added another 80-90. Ended up doing a basic hone & new rings since I needed the car back on the road as my alternate transportation was threatening to fail under me. Managed to eventually hit 55mpgs. But after almost 2 years & the better part of 50k miles the wear is showing...needs a proper boring out & .040 over rings//pistons.
@ craigmabbit89 What kind of a moron fires up an engine that has lain idle for 7 years without changing the oil and filter? Do you know what happens to old engine oil after lying in the sump this long? I also noticed that no oil was injected into the bores or the valve gear to aid lubrication. Remind to never let this guy get within 100 yards of my car.
Ye I have a 1.8tddi focus can not kill it it is the older type one a swear to god common rail is shit I had another one but common rail I killed it in a week
@@stateofmind91 As the few wonder if the older IDI and DI diesels are in demand as the after treatment on today's common rail diesels are trying to kill the diesel industry when those are trying to restore an older vehicle.
i mean if the head is going to get cleaned,like all the diesel gunk removed from the intake and exhaust this engine can do over 100k miles with basic maintanance guaranteed if driven normal

@@user-zq2fr1sh2x я систему охлаждения промывал с ложкой ортофосфорной кислоты, радиатор надо раз в 2 года продувать и чистить. Помпа должна смазываться антифризом - долго ходит. Термостат качественный. Не знаю, я свой прожаривал отключенным вентилятором и нихера, только стеклопластиковая крыльчатка на валу треснула и через полгода провернулась. Задолбался гадать причину перегрева. Шумность похрен, полгода езжу без заднего глушака. Расход 6,5л. Форсы не смотрел на распыл уже лет 7, пробег маленький за это время - тыщ до 45.
4:55 to 4:57 .. some valve not closing? I think yes cause after the throttlekick there was glowing little things (soot) that flow out of the exhaust-outlet and the noise is gone. And it start to run smooth. Awesome enginge!
how long d'you reckon's a reasonably 'safe maximum' length of time to run a Diesel (gently) with no Coolant. 1 or 2 mins? I got my replacement Peugeot XUD to start soon.
Can I ask what is the high pitched sound? I have '86 Golf 2 1.6D and it's doing the same sound I am not really a diesel expert, so I am just asking in case it's something wrong
in fact, all our big industries wouldn´t exist without the diesel. Diesel engines are not replacable. Not by petrol and definitely not by electric motors. And what those Greta Thunberg morons also don´t wanna hear because it doesn´t fit in their propaganda: On those old diesels, the smoke is not fine dust and those diesel also emit less (!!) CO2 than most even newer petrol engines, because their consumption is so low.
