I also sort my seeds by their “start date”. I even took a marker and wrote on each pack how many weeks before last frost and it’s correlating date. That way I don’t have to look around for that info every time. Thanks for the great tips!

Danielle-you always give the best, clear information with enough detail and show the techniques and examples. Perfect way for many of us to learn. This video is exactly what I needed! I have detailed spreadsheets but realize I need a wall calendar to “see” the plan in time. I am in love with Pilot Frixion erasable pens!!! They come in lots of colors so you can color code if you want. I use them for my day planner and it looks happier with colors. I’ll probably use the darker blue color instead of pencil and prettier colors when I actually do the task on my new big garden wall calendar. Thanks to you, I now know what & how to make it useful🌸🌻🌷🌿❣️

Would you consider making a pdf list of what you start and when and how(direct sow or transplant starts) based on your grow zone (6b I think?) I think this would help a lot of us followers to eliminate the mystifying world of how to grow flowers… thanks so much!! ❤️

This is how I organize my seeds too! Organized minds think alike! 😄 Also , I love the pencil/ pen idea. I use sticky notes so I can move them from the intended to actual date, but your way prevents lost sticky notes!

What a simple way of storing and knowing what to plant when, I love it. I just bought an organizer last week and put all the same comp together. I have a farmers almanac calendar I want to follow for sowing this yr, I think it'll be fun to see how things come on then grow.

Loved this video! I am just counting the days until I start my snaps. I am sooo in love with them!! This year, I will be planting Madame Butterfly Bronze with White (I fell in love with her colors), some Chantilly Velvet snaps, some tall deluxe ones from Rareseeds, Cherry Rose from Johnny's Seeds, and some Knee Highs from Renee's Gardens. I would sooo love that Bridal Pink variety! Ooh la la!! I've been busy mapping out my borders. I can't wait to get my hands in the soil and get planting flowers!!

Lol, I have watched many peoples ways of how they store their seeds and after receiving seeds for this year, and got a lot of ideas prior to watching yours. When I received my new seeds and added to my current stash I need a new way of storing so I order the plastic case that everyone uses from Amazon. It wasn’t big enough so after a lot of thought in trying to minimize to keep it down to one I organized it by seeding dates both inside and out, like you have shown. I haven’t seen this way of storing my seeds and this is a great way to keep straight (at least for me) when I need to sow my seeds in chronological order. I hope to be that organized one day. This is my first year growing seeds under lights. Unfortunately the big box stores no longer sell the fluorescent shop lights. So I bought the 5500 LED shop lights. I’ve read the LED are okay for seed growing. I’m experimenting mainly this first year with sprouting under lights. Kinda playing around to get an idea of how it needs to be done. I expect to make many mistakes this year. It took me 2 years to learn to properly care for water Lotus. But my lotus now thrive and are beautiful. Thank you for all the concise instructions in your videos. You are helping new gardeners and old seasoned gardeners (me). Learn new gardening techniques. Your gardens are beautiful!!

I bought these heat mats in January on Amazon for $18.88+ tax. They are now 2 months later, $31. It's just ridiculous! Doesn't even come with a thermostat. I'm growing bridal pink this year. Can't wait to see how they do.❤

I keep a gardening journal, with lists of what goes in each bed or border, flower pictures with heights of each flower. I also make maps of my beds and borders. My seeds are bundled for what I will plant indoors month by month; Direct Seeders are bundled together too.I add a card with the month on each one to keep them separate; if I plant veggies that month, they go in there too. Each month, I jot down on the calendar when I will plant what. It all helps me stay on top of everything!

I am starting snaps for the first time this year and I am so excited. Starting a large cut flower garden because I am moving to a new house without many perennials. Need to get my plant fix somehow. One of my favorite flowers! They volunteer themselves every year in the front of my house and they don't need watering even in the high desert. I have no idea what variety they are but they grow in several colors. The only thing I ever have to do to them is when they start turning brown in the fall I pull them up. By then they've already dropped seeds for next year.

Great to start the morning, coffee in hand, watching one of my favorite flower gardeners. This year I'm going all out on flowers and I've learned alot from you. I'm going to plant snaps also, I have the tetra mix from Johnny's Happy gardening from zone 7 Middletown DE. 😊

One trick my sister taught me, is have one empty try for your water. Then have your cell packs in a tray with a mesh on the bottom. So you set each tray into the water tray until they are watered enough, continuing until all trays are watered.

Bridal pink snapdragon was a favorite last year. I grew about 20 varieties of snapdragons last year. I start some inside and also winter sow some. Love your positive and helpful videos and the beautiful music.

We must think similar because I do things almost the same way! Except for I use a red pen when I actually start things so it’s easier to see for future reference. Can’t wait to start my snaps!

First year growing snaps for me! Ordered the Madame Butterfly mix and my neighbour will try the Rocket mix and we’ll compare notes. So excited!

So interesting to see how we all organize our seeds and sowing activities. I like the "KISS" approach you have for keeping your seed packets organized, especially the order in which you stack your packets. About sowing dates/calendar, I decided to keep all info in an Excel file this year. Created it in December. I "crashed and burned" with this new method. I'm moving the info in an electronic calendar. If that doesn't work, back to the pen and paper method I guess.

I’m going to plant snapdragons with winter sow method. I did both at the same time last year and while the indoor snaps germinated much sooner the outdoor seedlings caught up and seemed stronger and healthier. That was my first year so hopefully I’ll get the same results as I’m not sowing any inside this year so I have more room for other less hardy annuals. I winter sowed in jugs Potomac Yellow, Costa Silver, Univ of California Mix & Rocket Mix zone 8a, DFW TX. Will start more snaps inside, too. Happy Growing!!💐

Just found your video and subscribed. I have never grown from seed but I am going to give it a go this year. I am trying winter sowing this year and am trying some that way but when it gets a bit warmer here in the UK I will start some off in my greenhouse. The use of a cocktail stick is a great idea. Would be good for foxgloves as well. Looking forward to your next video

This is great! I’m from England and we don’t have as much useful information on our seed packets from the local garden centre. X

To empty excess water, you can also slightly elevate the backside so the water collects at the front. Using a turkey baster you can draw up the excess water, just remove one tray to access the water instead of removing all the trays. I find it much less messy.

Your idea seems so much easier then mine. I have all my seed inventory on a spreadsheet (seed, variety, #seeds, sow date). I will be starting my snapdragons this week, a variety of Chantilly, Madame Butterfly, Potamac, Twinny and Rocket. I am also testing out a perpetual calendar I purchased from Fruition Seeds. Hopefully this will help my planning for future years.

Thanks for all the info on starting Snapdragons, I will be using a heat mat for them (didn't know it would help with germination) This year I am planting Butterfly Rose, Rocket Mix, Potomac Yellow and Dark Orange, Rocket Orchid, First Ladies Mix, and Madame Butterfly Bronze, my plan is to start in March with all of these, packets suggest 8-10 weeks before last frost, which for me is May 19th (zone 6b) So excited for another growing season!!! 💚🌿🌱

New follower! Loving all your videos! It's like finding a great TV show that has lots of seasons! You have inspired me to plant snapdragons this year! Do you net them in the garden and if so how to you do that?

Last year I grew Black prince, Night and day, Tetra giants, madame butterfly bronze with white, and Potomac appleblossom. Hoping that the first 3 come back, and reseeding all of them this year to be sure I have snapdragons. I wish mine would grow so straight as yours do.

Hi Danielle! Love your videos and have been binging them lately! Lol. Wondering how you know what cool annual flowers to start first? How do you know which ones need more time or less time? Thanks so much!

I store mine by planting date as well, but I log all relevant info differently. I have a page per planting for example. I started my sweet peas Feb 1st, on a Feb 1 sweet pea page I list the varieties and how much I planted, how long the seeds were presoaked (1-1/2 days), how long to pop up through the soil (5 days), if any didn't pop up - I usually have close to 100% germination on everything. When I start hardening off, when I plant out with cloches, when the cloches come off, when the first flowers start blooming and how many bouquets I get at what date, etc. This way when I look back at my sweet pea info its all there and I can decide if I want to make any adjustments.

I never had much luck with them. They always got weak stems and flop. Maybe was the varieties too. I may try some from Johnny’s. Thank you for the toothpick tip.

I had my cool flower seeds grouped together and my warm season seeds all grouped together, but after seeing how you rubberband them chronologically, I've sorted mine that way and feel like I am organized now! I am in zone 7b and planted a lot of snapdragons in the fall, and after the snow and freezing temperatures that we had this winter, they look bedraggled. Would you suggest cutting them down to 3-4" from the ground now to help them grow more branches and flowers this spring? I hope they will bounce back and flower for me this spring. I'm also going to plant more snap varieties soon, like Tall Deluxe, Tequila Sunrise, Apple Blossom, and Madame Butterfly. Thanks for your helpful video!

I thought I would grow some of these tall snaps this year, along with stock. Avid grower and seed starter, but first time for these! So, I got a little worried when I realized the Costa, silver was a group 2…wasn’t familiar with the groups. I was relived when I saw you starting some! I’m in southern Ohio. A three or 4 would probably be safer (we sometimes rush into summer temps) but, I certain it would take hoops to start these in fall. Trying to get the gist of more cool flowers. Your vids help a lot! When do think you will plant the snaps, that you just sowed, out in the ground? Mine just popped up. I do have hoops and plan on a double layer of AG 19…if needed. Also unsure about that. But, curious just how earlier they can go out if hardened off. Thanks!

After learning about the snapdragon groups from you, I realized my seed collection was very unbalanced as I only had one group 1-2, Costa Apricot. Luckily I caught this early and I was able to order Legend Light Pink, Chantilly Bronze, and Costa Silver. They should be arriving tomorrow! I'm guessing you have another bundle of seed packets that are for sowing in Fall like Nigella, Larkspur and Bells of Ireland. The cool flower strategy is crazy and I would be skeptical if I didn't watch your many cool flower videos including one where you are planting out hardy annuals with snow in the forecast. Thank you! By the way, can you explain whether Yarrow is an annual or perennial?

Thanks for a very helpful video! Do you cold stratify your snapdragon and yarrow seeds, or is that not necessary? Those are two that I can't seem to get a clear answer on, and I would rather not mess with cold stratification for them if it isn't necessary, but of course I want to have good germination. Any help/comments you (or other gardeners reading this) can provide would be appreciated.

I just love your "basic" organization. I have a question about frost dates. When I look up my zip code I get a chart with percentages across the top & temperatures down the left side. Dates are filled in the chart using those 2 axis. I wondered which percentage you use to determine your frost date.

Nice video! Our last succession of snaps are group 2 and 2-3, that are the schedule for tomorrow. We don't grow snapdragons through the hot summer, too much rust issues. Do you grow through the summer months? Beautiful photos!
