In this video, I demonstrate the process of starting up and operating a Low-V subway car at the Shore Line Trolley Museum, built from 1916 to 1925 by the Pressed Steel Car Company, American Car and Foundry, and Pullman Company for the IRT division of the New York City Subway.

My apologies for this video being of a lesser production quality. I taped it all on a whim without any planning whatsoever!

That is literally every NYC kids dream! To operate the subway car!

Absolutely! A dream I have achieved, as a former NYC kid.

Cica 1960 at Queens Plaza we changed from the 7 line to the train to Midtown Manhattan we sat at the front of the train and since it was summer the motorman had his cab door open and the side window also opened. I saw him run the controls and asked me if I wanted to try but I was not yet in kindergarten. A pleasant experience in NYC during the Mad Men era as I myself am a New Yorker from the baby boomer generation even though I was born in a foreign country.

I loved these trains when I was a kid. I remember taking one to Yankee Stadium on the 4 line with my dad when I went to my first baseball game. I can still hear in my head the sounds of the motor and the door opening and closing.

I remember riding the Lo-Vs on 2 and 3 express trains in 2011, when they had a museum run. It operated between Times Square and 96th Street in both directions.

I know! I operate a trolley or a transit car almost every week. Volunteering at a railroad museum or a transit/trolley museum is the best.

As a kid, I remember the doors opening or closing in two stages, with the sound of rubber "zipping" through the operation (for lack of a better description). Those doors never opened or closed in one pass.

I came here because you directed me here from your other video on the R17 start up. And because I'm a Lo-V fan. I envy you having all that fun starting up my all-time, favorite NYCTA IRT subway car! It was really cool seeing you operate it though. 😂 That was so cool! 😊

More air pressure for the doors! Check the air compressor for more Force.

We're actually currently working on a problem with the door control actuator and the air compressor itself in the Low-V-- it's getting sent off sometime in early Feb. to be part of a movie set so everybody's rushing to get work done on the car before then.
