I lived near Emden (northern Germany) where the Passat B3 was built. They were literally everywhere and when i visited my hometown some weeks ago i even came across some of these - over 30 years after production ended.
My father owns a 1.9 D 1y passat b3 and that engine is possibly as reliable as it can get, even more so than the 1.9 or 1.6 TDs. Even though i plan on buying a newer daily car and then make a project out of the old passat one day, and maybe swap the engine for either a 1.9 TD or an early 1.9 TDI and tune it a bit to get atleast over 100hp, that engine and the car as a whole have never let my father or me down. With only 68hp and 128nm, it might be sluggish on straight roads but its impressive fuel economy and low rpm torque make up for it driving on old bumpy roads everyday. I have started to restore the car by replacing broken interior parts, taking care of rust and messed up spots and detailing. I must say that it was this channel that inspired me to start it, especially when i saw the videos about passat b3s, and i loved watching them over and over to learn some stuff i could do myself. Cheers from Portugal.
Mine is Seat Ibiza GT TDI 110hp its my daily, still leting me to work and came. Its a trooper,i put a new radiator at 302k it was the original one ! And when i park him i always look back, that's when i know i have the wright car !
@@pedroadelino100 My dad bought the car like in the mid 2000s and has kept it as the only car since. Right now it has 430k kms but he said that the previous owner swaped the original 1.6 TD for the 1.9 D the car currently has and we don't know how much kilometers the car had when the swap was done. The current engine is still going pretty smooth though it vibrates alot at times but that seems to be "normal" i guess.
It might not be the most attractive car VW ever made but that engine is so reliable you didn't even need to tap the injectors loose and the fuel pump was still working! Legend!
Your videos make one happy. I was back in the nineties with this one. Then I grabbed the keys to the '98 Golf, which has the same swirl chamber engine as your red Passat, and wanted to go for a little drive. But it was completely dark and the battery was flat. The car is only used every few weeks to prevent it from breaking down. Please give us more details from checking and working with the car. Your videos can be a bit longer if you like.
Bulletproof old 1.9D VW motor 👌 didn't think the ground was going to release it! Cleaned up well ✨ lost one half of the front splitter on the stage! 🚗💨👍
OMG a batery and starts like if it was runing 5min ago.I have 110hp code AFN its very similiar, this cars are great i feel bad someone put this beauty away to rot :( Mine is a warrior daily never gives up on me,giving love to him when i can or breacks anything. Love this chanel, always waiting to see another great video from you guys !
First time I saw one of these was on your channel with the first red one you started up, absolutely love them, would love to own one but they're super rare here in the UK
Volkswagen Passat wagon German vehicles never die tall grass awesome video friend air tires engine good condition best mechanic in the world keep bringing new videos
Why did I NOT buy one of these TDI VW's back then when I was car shopping? Oh well! That little diesel engine is perhaps, thee best engine that VW made. in my opinion of course. However a good friend of mine did buy one back in the early 2000's and he still has it today, running as sweet as ever.
this channel is mysterious. they just came and made videos. and no one questions it. those who did, were never seen, or their nodies were found years later.
Easy starter that one Comrade! Like your previous video, this engine was a tough and colossal mile muncher. We used them in the UK for taxi and courier work. The biggest con are the engineers of today, making rubbish vehicles. 👍💯🇬🇧😎
Great starting video! But I would have a look at the strut tower on the passenger side under the hood as it dosen't seem to be connected to the inner wing properly!
