I remember going to this fair when I was a kid in Wisconsin -don't remember where it was but the local farmers had donated their surplus of corn so all the corn on the cob was free. Piles and Piles of fresh corn ...they were literally boiling the corn (husk and all) in big cauldrons of butter and handing them out all hot and dripping. There were salt & pepper shakers hanging from strings all over the fair so you could sprinkle it on as you strolled around. I literally gorged myself on sweetcorn that day - now as an adult, I can relate to the "IT'S CORN!!" kid on a spiritual level.
My late great uncle had a heart attack after going on a fried food binge at the state fair. According to his sister (My grandma), his first question when they revived him was "Where did I leave my fried twinkie?"
Doesn't matter what part of the country you're in, State Fairs and fried foods go together like Mac and cheese (on a stick of course). Well done Charlie, you'd make Big Tex real proud. 👍

Took my Mom to the fair this year it's been a while, she was recovering from knee surgery last year, and the year before that was lockdown so no fair obviously. She still can't get around well so we got a wheelchair that grandma left us after she passed out of storage. Ate tons of completely unhealthy foods, cream puffs, dipped ice cream, pork chop on a stick you name it and it was expensive. Good times though, saw the exhibits and took some souvenirs home. Good weather too so it was a nice trip.
Oh, those Wisconsin State Fair cream puffs 😍 We live in Virginia now but my husband often rhapsodizes about those cream puffs while I sing harmony. Since we weren’t going to be able to go to Wisconsin at all in 2020 (much less the State Fair,) my wonderful son made them for my husband’s birthday. He kept questioning me, “*Really* that big? *REALLY* just sweetened whipped cream?!” and they came out amazing. My husband was delighted. *eta: deep-fried *bacon* cheese curds?! I have got to get back to Wisconsin…
Hey there how are ya.. so didn't see ya at corn roast in Scandinavia .. so we are volunteers and we do the corn shucking. It would be awesome if u came next year and help shuck a little corn! Ask for trapper and Tori. It's a great time. We got plenty of beverages. And Sunday is free corn. We shuck about 100 dozen a day
I was right by the state fair a couple days ago! Went to the brewers game where our closing pitchers figured it'd be a good time to suck but was still a fun time. Awesome video, and tell your folks I says hi.
Both Wisconsin state fair and Minnesota state fair food is worth the indigestion the next day. After all, it's only 2 weekend a year...and a good excuse to call in work on Monday.
Dude, the cheese curds (and fried cheese curds) are all I'm eating at the WI state fair. They're amazing. I usually avoid animal products, so it's all the cheese I eat for the year and I regret it for the rest of the week.
I once told a friend that i had returned from the lands of food on a stick, after getting back from the county fair. Om glad i wasnt thr only one who noticed. But i recall a key lime pie om a stick too
Charlie, hie thee to Quebec for some casse-croute: Pogos, poutine, Michigan dogs, and smoked meat. They may lack sticks (aside from the Pogos). But they will definitely challenge both your arteries and stomach in a way worthy of state fair food. Green Spot Diner just south of Lionel Groulx metro station in St Henri is a prime spot.
Green beans and Pepto sounds about right to me. Lol When I was a kid in the 70's times were financially lean money wise. One year we had a bumper crop of green beans of which we canned 85 quarts of them. We also ate all 85 quarts of those darn beans that winter, boiled to death as my mother always fixed them. To this day, I'm now 59 I can't stomach eating green bean anything! So for you folks who like green beans please eat some extra servings for me, even some of those deep fried ones! Especially with the ranch dressing 😋
They're Miesfeld's brats, but the business (the stand itself) aren't from Sheboygan. And they don't serve them on hard rolls. Yes, I asked like any good Sheboyganite would.
The best brats in Wisconsin are made by a very small producer, location undisclosed because I don't want them overrun by riffraff. They have a small client base and they like it that way. Their recipes are from the Old World and haven't changed over the decades. I feel fortunate to be a patron.
I'm from Iowa and, I'm here to say that this man is brilliant!! You could go with beer for all the cheap carbs but, I feel, you'd still pay a price for the merriment! 😂😂
I guess it’s the southern version but I always knew the phrase as “now we’re cooking with peanut oil!” which I feel would also ironically adequately represent the deep fried nature of this video 😂
I'm not particularly familiar with traditional French food, which may indeed be great, but if you don't have access to food like this (as special treats, not dietary staples), then you're missing out, big time! I haven't had an opportunity to try those fried cheese curds and bacon in cinnamon roll dough yet (and yes, that was all one item), but it sounds like the latest addition to the list of great fair food!
Not me trying to see if the Pork Shoppe is still at the State Fairgrounds, I used to go and work that stand with the FCCLA. We'd take the afternoon shift so we could go and enjoy the fair first and then work from 4-to whenever they closed for the day. You could get a porkchop on a stick...which back in the day was just a fancy term for the bone, now it actually has a stick.
You should make a video of someone from the coast being pulled over by a midwestern cop. "Yah nah," and "Nah Yah" could be the ongoing joke through the skit. When you ask for a firearm and they say no, pull down your glasses and ask them if they at least have a fishing rod. Once they say no, the possibilities are endless.
My husband & I loved to get the fried artichokes and 16 oz can of Heinie at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. He was from Chicago. A meal fit for a king!
Folks, don't eat your cream puffs like a closed sandwich. They're meant to be gently spun in half and eaten open-faced. (Personally, I think they taste awful and smell like wet dog, but etiquette is etiquette.)
I grew up in Wisconsin. LIve in Minnesota now, but I hate cream puffs. Mainly because I hate whipped cream. My dessert of choice growing up was a caramel apple at the state fair. Of course, they didn't have the wide array of food choices that they have now.
